00:00In Zimbabwe, this discreet caravan on the outskirts of Harare is giving teenage girls private access to contraception, away from
00:09judgment and stigma.
00:10Experts say access is vital to preventing unintended pregnancies and reducing dangerous childbirth risks.
00:18One of the biggest challenges around adolescent health is teenage pregnancies.
00:22And so for us, we came up with an intervention of the caravan outreach to reach as many young girls
00:31as possible.
00:33And the caravan that I'm talking about is an ordinary caravan that people use to go on holiday.
00:41We repurposed these caravans into a service delivery unit.
00:45Since 2021, the mobile clinic has helped over 100,000 young people access contraception, STI treatment and vital health advice.
00:56But the design of the caravan also provides a safe space for girls to have honest conversations about sex,
01:03honest conversations with their peers, honest conversations with the provider or the nurse,
01:09honest conversation with a teen connector or a peer educator to actually get a service.
01:15For many teenage girls, the dream is to return to school.
01:19And this mobile clinic is helping make that dream a reality, one step at a time.
01:31Some men want you to continuously give birth, whilst as a woman I might not necessarily want that.
01:37So we come to this caravan where there is privacy and you can get an implant unlike at the regular
01:43clinic
01:44where someone can see you and report you to your husband that you got a J-Dell implant.
01:53But shrinking international aid is putting the service at risk after a $9 million U.S. grant was cut.
