Stray dog rescued from Chile's raging Mapocho River

A stray dog named Morocho survived multiple failed rescue attempts and was swept through dangerous floodgates before emerging safely from Chile's swollen Mapocho River on Tuesday, captivating television audiences across Santiago.

The animal became trapped on a concrete barrier in the rain-swollen river for more than two hours as rescue teams, including firefighters, municipal personnel and Chile's GOPE special operations unit, attempted five separate rescues, according to local media outlets.

The dramatic rescue was broadcast live on morning television programs, with viewers watching anxiously as Morocho was repeatedly swept away before finally escaping the fast-flowing floodwater.
