Willard and Dibs join Guru and Bonta (in for Steiny) on a Thursday edition of the Crossover. The guys react to the Valkyries' win over the Aces to take a 2-0 series lead, get ready for 49ers vs. Seahawks from Seattle, and more.
Transcript
00:03Now, back to Stiney and Guru on 95.7 The Game.
00:10And it's time for the crossover brought to you by Bay Alarm.
00:13Rest easy.
00:14We've got you covered.
00:15Bayalarm.com.
00:17Willard, this.
00:18Guru and Bonte, go ahead, Willard.
00:22You got to love that.
00:23You got to crack it.
00:24I do love that.
00:24That's a great bit.
00:26That's a great bit.
00:27It's like a ginger ale when you're just cracking.
00:30Exactly.
00:31And that's basically what that is.
00:32It's a, like, fizzy water.
00:34Oh, yeah.
00:35And as fruity and fizzy as you can make it.
00:37This is a strawberry peach LaCroix.
00:40I wish I was drinking.
00:41We're not allowed to unless we're at a summit.
00:44Right, exactly.
00:44And you have the person who's kind of running the place, you know, walk up with shots.
00:49And it's like, you look at the boss, and the boss is not happy.
00:52But what?
00:53Are we going to disrespect the host?
00:55Baldy was here.
00:56Like if Baldy's doing it.
00:57You missed it.
00:57Yeah, Baldy's at the summit.
00:58You're not allowed to do whatever we got.
00:59I heard.
01:00I did the show with him the next day.
01:01Baldy.
01:02Oh, yeah.
01:03That was a great show.
01:04That's when T.O. dropped the next one.
01:06Oh, yeah.
01:07Yeah, I forgot that.
01:08Oh, I like that.
01:09Oh, yeah.
01:10I like that.
01:11Yeah.
01:11This is what I was doing to Stiney.
01:12Come on, T.O.
01:13Cut, cut, cut.
01:14Yeah.
01:14On social media, cut, cut, cut.
01:16And, of course, my boy loved it.
01:17He sat down to tweet and spelled Dajon Love's name wrong.
01:20Well, I mean, there's that.
01:22So, yep.
01:23What about the Valkyries?
01:24What a game, right?
01:25Right?
01:25I mean, what a game.
01:27It was almost the inverse of game three in the first round where they trailed and then
01:32they came all the way back.
01:34And yesterday, it's like, okay, big lead.
01:36And then, you know, 16 became 13 and then nine and then seven and then four.
01:41It's like, uh-oh.
01:42You knew they were coming.
01:43And the building got so quiet on those free throws is what I was impressed with.
01:47How many times have you played, and it's okay if the answer's none, but how many times have
01:52you played Dana's call of Veronica Burton's three with 41 seconds to go?
01:57About three or four?
01:58Raindance.
01:58Yeah, we played in a few times.
01:59Give him one more.
02:00Are you ready?
02:01Gets past Brown.
02:02In the lane.
02:03Peels it out.
02:03Tend to shoot.
02:04Back to Gabby.
02:05Sizing up Young.
02:06Driving right.
02:07Between the legs.
02:08Moving left.
02:08Burton has a left wing.
02:09Three.
02:12Raindance!
02:14Seventy-nine, seventy-six, and a tap-out called by Becky Pan.
02:2541.5 burden over Asia in a battle of 22s.
02:30What a shot by Veronica.
02:32How about that for your first make from the field?
02:37Wow.
02:38Her first make was that.
02:41That's why we love what we do, man.
02:42Get over to Becky.
02:43Ha, ha, ha, ha.
02:45Yeah.
02:47Out of way, Dana.
02:48Pretty good.
02:49He does not disappoint.
02:51It's Dana doing Dana.
02:52It's Dana being Dana.
02:53Can you expect that?
02:54Like, the Raindance is great, and then, you know, he's prone to go with the ha, ha, ha,
02:59no matter what, but then he did that with Becky Hammond.
03:02Awesome.
03:03Wow.
03:03Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha.
03:06One game away from a championship series.
03:08Come on, man.
03:09With just seven games.
03:10Yeah.
03:10Seven games versus seven.
03:12Yeah.
03:12That's the seven.
03:14The champagne's going to be in Vegas, Dibs.
03:17Right.
03:17I mean, possibly, yeah.
03:19Think about that.
03:20It has to be.
03:21You're up 2-0.
03:22The t-shirts and hats are going to be there.
03:24You got to be ready.
03:25You got to be ready.
03:26Tomorrow night?
03:27Yep.
03:27I can't believe it.
03:28I thought they were a player away from being at this level.
03:31The fact that they're up 2-1, no team, it scares Goo and I.
03:34No team that's ever been down 0-2 has ever rallied and won that series in WNB.
03:39It's a W.
03:41They're going on the road to the best player in the world.
03:44Sorry, Joe Lacob.
03:45Best player in the world.
03:47Got our MVP today.
03:48Defending champs.
03:49Like that.
03:50Yeah.
03:51This is not, it's not over.
03:53It doesn't feel over, does it?
03:55No.
03:55It's not even close.
03:56Dibs, does it feel over?
03:57No, it doesn't.
03:58I mean, the fact that they're up 2-0 feels a little bit, not like found money because
04:03that one started to get away and then they were able to like right the ship and hit the
04:07big shot.
04:07But I can't help but think about the Vegas locker room where maybe the Valks are up five
04:12with a minute and a half to go and you start putting all the plastic on the lockers
04:16and you reel in the champagne and maybe something bad happens.
04:20And they go on a 7-0 run and so now you got to pull off the plastic and you
04:23got to wheel
04:24the champagne into a different room.
04:26So nothing's done until it's done.
04:28But wow, this run, like incredible.
04:31And they walked them down and took the lead last night.
04:34That's why I was like, these are, they know how to win it.
04:37They had the lead and then it was tie game and the Aces had a possession and the Valkyries
04:41defense caused a turnover.
04:43I mean, Gabby, I give her this, like no one's going to remember this one, but when the Aces
04:48took the lead by two, that was an ice water pull up.
04:52Oh yeah.
04:53Like that's, that's when you, okay, maybe she isn't, she's in the conversation.
04:57That's like, give the ball.
04:58I'm going to get this right back even.
05:00Because if you missed that, now you're down two, man.
05:01Now you're in trouble.
05:03Give it to Asia.
05:04That was, that was, that was a big bucket.
05:07You're right, that was a big bucket.
05:08And what you said is what I've believed the entire time until the playoffs, which is they're
05:13one player away.
05:14Right.
05:14And I thought that they were one, like you go out there and save us player away and
05:19it's Gabby Williams and she's been that player.
05:22So the last box for me was, okay, do you have an Asia Wilson?
05:26No one does.
05:27But do you have that cold piece who can get you the bucket in the tight spot?
05:31And I think they do, you know, the underrated aspect of last night's game, I thought was
05:35the last four minutes of the third quarter.
05:37Cause Gabby goes out, she checks out and still, you know, you can feel the aces starting
05:42to find their rhythm.
05:44Tiffany Hayes and the way she took over the last part, last half of the third quarter,
05:48I thought was a very underrated, uh, situational situation basketball for the Valkyries and
05:53her takeover there at the end of the third quarter is something nobody's talking about
05:57today.
05:58She was big, man.
05:59She like, yeah, she, she, she.
06:01She was a lightning rod.
06:02She, I, I, I agree with you.
06:04I mean, you liken that to what we go through as Warriors fans in the quote unquote, non
06:09Steph minutes and, and right.
06:11And what they're able to do or not do during that time sometimes decides basketball games.
06:16So that's a, that's a good observation because right now with the way this, with what they've
06:21become in the playoffs, which is centered around Gabby on both ends of the floor, they
06:25were able to, they were able to just hold with her all on the bench.
06:29That was big.
06:30Yeah.
06:30And nobody, unless I'm misinformed shocker, none of us have played pro sports and I always
06:36just wonder how big of a deal is it that they're playing in a building where the fans are on
06:41your side, as opposed to what we'll see tomorrow where they won't have, you know, if something's
06:47going wrong or they're on a run.
06:48And just Paul hollow did their part, man.
06:51And I'm like, it's affecting, you know, it's affecting some of these aces and this ain't
06:55home.
06:56And then it'll be switched tomorrow where the fans will be on your side dibs.
07:00But I'm just wondering how much does that really affect some of these players, man?
07:04It depends on the home field or home court.
07:06Seattle with the Niners.
07:07Exactly.
07:08And I'm thinking about the beast quake, right?
07:10Where, you know, they got so loud that it actually registered on the Richter scale.
07:13And we're going to hopefully reach out to a Dave softy modeler today.
07:17I heard you guys on with Dick Fane and you're right.
07:19We try to get softy like a lot.
07:22Whatever.
07:23Dick Fane is the better half of the tandem.
07:25There's no doubt.
07:27I mean, much more like mature, responsible, level headed.
07:31So if we get softy today, that'd be great.
07:33But I heard you guys with Dick and it had me thinking about the Seattle home field advantage.
07:38And that's one of the rare ones where, you know, I think Balhalla is another one where
07:42it's actually a thing.
07:44It's a factor.
07:45Think about the NFL right now.
07:46How many buildings out there don't turn red when the Niners show up?
07:50There's not many.
07:51It's turned red a couple of times.
07:53Seattle.
07:54Up there.
07:54Not fully red.
07:56Not fully red.
07:57Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
07:57Can't reddish.
07:58They'll be red.
07:59It'll be like 25% every now and then.
08:01There's a couple of times where you're like, wow, this is a lot more Niner fans.
08:03The playoff game, there was some red, but the red was walking out.
08:07The third quarter was like, oh, this one's over.
08:10Let's get a head start on getting to the bars.
08:12Kind of like you at the Super Bowl last year.
08:14Yeah.
08:14I left early.
08:15Yeah.
08:16I heard that earlier.
08:16Yeah.
08:17We talked about him and Butch's record for the Niners in postseason games.
08:20When I go by myself on road games, I'm undefeated.
08:25I now see why you guys broke up.
08:29I get it.
08:30I get it.
08:31I get it.
08:32I got it so far.
08:33Three times without Butcher.
08:35No, twice without Butcher.
08:37And I've won both those games.
08:38Went down to Dallas.
08:39Dallas game.
08:39Garoppolo tried to give it away.
08:40Yeah, he did try to give it away.
08:41This is the same day, Draymond Green was out with a back issue.
08:45The Warriors reported, oh, he has a back issue.
08:46He's going to miss a few weeks.
08:47I was like, what is happening?
08:49And then Garoppolo threw a pick.
08:50I was like, oh, no.
08:52And that spiked it.
08:53No, I give it to you just for, I don't know how the hell y'all are even able to
08:56get to
08:56all of these games.
08:57I've only been to two, I think.
09:00At least in the modern era, maybe ever.
09:02Chicago.
09:02Chicago.
09:03Which did not go, put that L on us.
09:07Dante Pettis in your face.
09:09Right?
09:10Rain, Trey Lance, Dante Pettis.
09:12That all went sideways.
09:13What's the other one?
09:14The Raider game on New Year's Day.
09:16No, that's.
09:16Brock Purdy's first year where he only did a half of the year.
09:20You won that one?
09:20Yeah, that was a win.
09:21Oh, yeah, that was a win.
09:21Was that overtime?
09:22It took overtime.
09:24It took a minute.
09:24Jared Stidham came out and was slinging it.
09:26I'm like, what is happening right now?
09:28I'm not coming anymore to these road games.
09:30Yeah.
09:30Real quick, last one on the Valks.
09:32You think any Valk fans are traveling to Vegas?
09:33It's a short flight.
09:35I mean.
09:35Well, like, are we going to see some purple in the stands down in Vegas?
09:39You probably should.
09:40And, I mean, honestly, if you look at, like, the schedule, it's a, what, Friday, Sunday,
09:45I think, stack-wise.
09:46It's Vegas.
09:47Like, you don't need a reason.
09:48And, honestly, like, as you know, guys who are in the city and you live in the city,
09:52like, nobody works on Friday.
09:54Like, my commutes on Friday are unbelievably easy on the way home.
09:59Yeah, it's because people work from home.
10:02So, if you are a baller, not just a ball holla, but somebody who can ball, yeah, you go to
10:08Vegas and you work from home at whatever hotel you can go ahead and book.
10:13Book, book, book, book, book.
10:15Book, book, book.
10:16He gets to send you guys out there.
10:17Should have done the show for about there, Friday.
10:19Good idea.
10:20There's still time.
10:21There's still time.
10:21Matt, what's up?
10:22You guys are making money.
10:23Man.
10:23I see all the emails with the millions of views everybody's getting on YouTube.
10:28Matt, stop pocketing that money, man.
10:30Send the dibbers out to Vegas.
10:32My last trip to Vegas was during Summer League, not this past summer, but the summer before.
10:36And we had Alex Toohey and Will Richard.
10:39You and Randy.
10:40It was Grandy and I.
10:41Yeah, look at that.
10:42Yeah.
10:42And I was like, oh, my God, Will Richard.
10:44I mean, I barely know you, but I love you.
10:47You guys are stressing out Grandy, by the way.
10:48I've never seen him go this long without shaving.
10:51Like, he looks just stressed.
10:53Arsenal's losing.
10:54Guys are hurting.
10:54Randy, I don't agree.
10:55You look great.
10:56Oregon lost their quarterback.
10:57What are you talking about?
10:57I don't know.
10:58It's not the same thing.
10:59Grandy got an international break.
11:00No one's played for three weeks.
11:02All right.
11:02Yeah.
11:03He looks a little stressed.
11:04He's stressed about the Seahawks.
11:06I am, too.
11:07He's stressed about it.
11:08Why not?
11:08Yeah, we have to beat him down to get the 23-29ers.
11:13He didn't believe it.
11:14I don't believe it.
11:15Does Kyle Shanahan have a Mike McDonald problem?
11:18Yes or no?
11:19What if I told you, that's why I can't wait for this game before I answer that?
11:24Can that be my answer?
11:26You can answer it.
11:27I'm confident they're going to win this game.
11:30He may have one because Christmas Day, 2023, against the Baltimore Ravens.
11:35I was happy when Kansas City won that game in the ASU.
11:37I was like, I'd rather face Kansas City than Baltimore because of what I saw in that football game.
11:41The four interceptions by Brock Purdy, and there was three other oh-no throws.
11:44I was like, oh, he's seeing ghosts.
11:46It's like 15 defenders on the football field.
11:49And then, of course, what happened last year, one red zone trip.
11:51They beat him once.
11:52They beat him once last year.
11:54He's 2-4.
11:55Kyle and Brock are 2-4 against Mike McDonald.
11:58So not a good record.
11:59I don't think they've ever scored more than 20 points.
12:01So you're including the Baltimore game?
12:02I think they had the 36-point game on Thursday night.
12:05Was that McDonald or was that Pete Carroll's last year?
12:07Yeah, I don't think that was McDonald yet.
12:09I could be wrong, but I don't think they've gotten past 20 points.
12:13If they have, it's no more than once, and their record is 2-4.
12:17What says you?
12:19I'm going to separate the Baltimore McDonald and the Seattle McDonald because I don't think those looked the same.
12:25I know that we come out of the Baltimore one and go, well, he threw four picks, and he did.
12:30I also felt, though, that when he wasn't throwing picks, that offense was way more open than what I've seen
12:37when they're playing the Seattle Seahawks.
12:39The Seahawks and Niners, to me, this is the best the NFL has to offer right now in terms of
12:46an offensive play caller going against a defensive play caller.
12:50And they both have tons of weapons.
12:54Kyle has some new ones this year that he didn't have last year.
12:57I'm anxious to see if that makes a difference.
12:59That's where I get my confidence from.
13:01Yeah, but it's best on best.
13:03And, you know, usually when that happens, what do we know in sports?
13:08The best defense against the best offense, who usually wins?
13:12Defense.
13:13So, this is hard.
13:15This is going to be really hard.
13:17First game Shanahan saw McDonald when McDonald became the coach of the Seattle Seahawks, Niners put up 36.
13:23Okay.
13:2336-24.
13:24Okay.
13:25Their first meeting, but ever since then, it hasn't been that pretty.
13:28It's been 20 or less every other day.
13:30So, that was that Thursday night.
13:31Yeah.
13:31And I think about last year, like, who didn't have a McDonald problem?
13:36And I'm looking at their game log.
13:37The Rams.
13:38Tampa put up 38.
13:39Tampa beat them 38-35.
13:41Well, the Rams, they actually put up 21 the first time, and they put up 37 the second time.
13:47But aside from that, nobody got nothing against McDonald.
13:51But what about the third time?
13:52NFC Championship game.
13:54What was the final score?
13:5431-27.
13:55Yeah.
13:55I mean, like, the Rams moved the ball.
13:58No doubt.
13:58Against the Seahawks.
13:59In a way that I didn't really see anybody else in the NFL do.
14:03But that's, you know, those two teams, the Rams and Seahawks, at the end of the year were healthy.
14:08And the Rams had, you know, they got great weaponry that was out there to be able to beat that
14:12man coverage and all that.
14:14But, sure, this is what the whole offseason was about.
14:16I asked Bonte earlier, do you guys think the fact that this guy's won a Super Bowl, he still kind
14:21of hadn't gotten his flowers or disrespected Sam Darnold?
14:27We've seen this before, haven't we, in the end?
14:29Like, that team is rare.
14:31They don't revolve around their quarterback.
14:33They just don't.
14:34They don't.
14:35Most of you do.
14:35But do you think of Sam different?
14:37Or you're like, dude, Gooey won a Super Bowl?
14:38Yeah, I do.
14:39But I already like Sam.
14:41Sam's a good player.
14:43But I think even the Seahawks would tell you.
14:45Like, they're not, they don't take the field with, hey, Sam, go win us the game.
14:50That's not usually how they do it.
14:52He was 19 for 38 in the Super Bowl, which is 50%, if I can do the math, on the
14:57fly.
14:58202 and one touchdown.
15:01Like, okay, Sam.
15:02But the game before that was his best day.
15:05It was.
15:05And did what I didn't think he could do against the Rams and go toe-to-toe with Stafford.
15:10So I get you, Dems, but doesn't that mean something?
15:13The week before to get you to that game?
15:15It all means everything.
15:17Like, you get into those games.
15:18And I think about Joe Flacco with Baltimore.
15:20He had one of the best postseasons in history.
15:23And it was Joe Flacco.
15:24Like, all right, Flacco, go ahead and do what you do.
15:27And he did.
15:28And you win the bowl.
15:29And you get credit for that.
15:31You know, Darnold had some breaks in the Super Bowl.
15:34It could have been ugly for Seattle's offense in that Super Bowl.
15:36The Patriots defense played well.
15:38And he got a couple bounces, some near picks in that football game.
15:41So he wasn't, they didn't need him in that game.
15:43Kenneth Walker III was running hard.
15:45And that defense was all over Drake May.
15:46So if you pressure Sam Darnold, yeah, sure, you can get him to throw a couple oh-no throws.
15:51But if he does get time, you have a JSM problem.
15:54Well, he has not played well so far this year, in my estimation.
15:58He's been okay.
15:59It has not been great.
16:00He's turned the ball over three times in two games.
16:06I don't like his weaponry as much as what he had last year.
16:10They, to me, are way too centered around Jackson Smith and Jigba.
16:13And this is the part of the game where I find my most confidence as a Niner fan is we're
16:17so focused on McDonald's wits versus Shanahan's wits that we completely ignore what's going to happen when Seattle has the
16:24ball.
16:24And this Niner defense is way more equipped than the defense that Seattle saw at the end of last year.
16:32Solely just because Fred Warner and Dre Greenwald are playing.
16:36Like, that in and of itself right there says a lot to me.
16:39Mike Halesback, Dibbers.
16:41Yeah, exciting.
16:42You know, and Mark is a lot more excited than I am because I think it's going to be more
16:45of a pitch count.
16:46And, you know, when you come off the ACL, you're probably not going to be all the way up to
16:51where you should be.
16:52I mean, Nick Bosa is a little bit different.
16:54He was, you know, kind of the old Nick Bosa when he came off his third ACL.
16:58So, I'm excited.
17:00It's another depth piece.
17:01But I'm not looking for him to come in and totally change their fortunes.
17:06Warner and Greenlaw, though.
17:08Warner and Greenlaw.
17:09That's the key.
17:10Yes.
17:10I mean, I think about Warner and Greenlaw.
17:13And Mark and I were talking about this yesterday where, you know, you watch 54, Fred Warner, and he's always
17:18there.
17:18And he's got that fist ready for the punch.
17:21And then you watch Dre Greenlaw, and maybe it was just last game against Denver, but I don't think it
17:25was just that.
17:26But he played against Denver like you are fighting your brother.
17:30And I don't know if you have siblings.
17:32Like, you have a sister.
17:33And I have a sister.
17:34And I learned not to fight her.
17:37I love her.
17:38I wouldn't fight her either.
17:39My two older brothers, Mike and Doug, they were always at odds.
17:42And then there was a famous day back in 1979 where they were fighting in the kitchen.
17:47And my mom said, take it outside.
17:49And they took it outside.
17:50And it was like Dre Greenlaw against Denver.
17:53And Mike was Denver.
17:54And Dre Greenlaw was Doug.
17:55And they went toe-to-toe.
17:57That means Doug won the fight?
17:58Doug won the fight.
18:00And I was on the front stoop announcing, of course, as a 10-year-old, you know.
18:05But that's what I saw from Dre.
18:07It's like, okay, Dre, like, you always want it, but this one felt a little different.
18:11Who's the Caner in this situation?
18:13Who's Caner?
18:13Is she Greenlaw, Times Warner?
18:16She's probably more like Nick Bosa where, you know,
18:19understated at times, and then she'll come and wreck the game?
18:22Yep.
18:23Dre Greenlaw knocked Sean Payton right back into play calling, dude.
18:26Yeah, he didn't get his fine rescinded.
18:28Who did see that coming after the Kansas City game?
18:30That was awesome.
18:30I mean, come on, that was a better time.
18:32Because these coaches are treating the first month of the season like preseason.
18:35D'Amico Ryan's down in Houston.
18:36Dangerous game.
18:37It's a dangerous game.
18:38Especially for the Denver Broncos.
18:40They didn't realize that they had two other good teams in their division, not one.
18:45The Raiders.
18:46They're in third place.
18:46And to think I thought this offseason, you know, I don't know if his progress going back
18:51to get Debo and Greenlaw, and I told Bonte this in the first hour, and I mean it.
18:55You see all these clips, and, you know, we're family, we're brothers and whatnot, and I thought
19:01there was somewhat bad blood between Debo.
19:03His last season here where there was a lack of production, he was on Twitter, I'm open.
19:09But the fact that the Niners family or whatever they run allowed him to come back, and then
19:14the same with Greenlaw, just speaks volumes to what they're running over here in regard
19:19to the, like, it's real, it is true family.
19:21Because I was like, I don't know about these guys, and look now, it's like either one of
19:27them should have never left.
19:28So kudos to Kyle and the ambiance and the culture over there.
19:34I said to you guys the other day, they're like the Pablo Sandoval of the Niners, now I'm
19:38thinking about GP2.
19:40Like, you think about...
19:41Went to Portland, came right back.
19:42You just think there's certain players where you're like, that doesn't work over there.
19:46And then they come back, and you're like, oh, now it just...
19:49And they're helping both of them.
19:51Yeah, oh, and I, like, I'll take a little bit of an L on that one.
19:54I was like, Debo and Greenlaw, like, are we trying to...
19:57The one just made it.
19:58Like, yeah, turning back the clock doesn't always work, but my God, it's working.
20:03Debo's first practice, he was taking, he basically was a starter.
20:06I was like, oh, he's playing.
20:07Like, there's no doubt, first day, in shoulder pads.
20:10Oh, he'll be involved in the offense.
20:11Kyle can't help himself as you're listening to 95.7 to Gabe, 208, Divers.
20:15First, KGMZ FM, and AC West, San Francisco, at Odyssey Sports Station,
20:19and the home of the GoToState Warriors.
20:20And Valkyrie's always live on the free Odyssey app,
20:22coming to you live from the Laughing Monk Studios.
20:24Real quick, I'm going to get your thoughts.
20:26I'll start with you, Dibs.
20:27Christoph Sporzingis.
20:28We're here, Steve Kerr, and Al Horford, hear about him and his health issue.
20:33It's unfortunate for Christoph Sporzingis.
20:35Have no idea what's going on.
20:36But already with the GoToState Warriors, before we get to the opener,
20:40I guess the LA Lakers down in Hollywood,
20:42you don't know if KP's going to be available.
20:44Well, hell, they don't even know if they know if he's in the Bay Area or not.
20:48I mean, really sad for him because I can't imagine having to deal with an illness like that,
20:53especially in your early 30s where you don't know when you wake up
20:56if you're going to be well enough to actually go about living a day,
21:00let alone be a small forward or a stretch five or whatever you're trying to be.
21:05You can't even wake up and figure out what you're going to be like in the day.
21:09And so that part of it is sad.
21:11And then I look at what happened with the trade.
21:14You brought him in.
21:15You rolled the dice.
21:16And when he plays, I do think that he's the perfect fit for this team.
21:20So it's a little tantalizing because what he provides is so awesome for this team.
21:24But at the same time, and Mark and I did this,
21:27and he hates to do like health speculation radio.
21:31But I was like, could you get 40 games from him?
21:34And now it feels like, I mean, can you get 25 games?
21:36Can you get one?
21:37Then there's my number, man.
21:39I mean, Nick Fiddle, 51 minutes ago, Steve Kerr says he has been in contact with Porzingis.
21:45As he continues to recover, it remains unclear exactly what kind of health issue Porzingis is dealing with.
21:51And the Warriors are unsure when he will be able to be back around the team.
21:56We're not talking about when he's able to play a game.
21:59When is he able to, like, be here?
22:02When is he able to go to Chase Center?
22:05As of yesterday and the day before, it sounded like Steve couldn't even get a hold of him.
22:11We talked about it.
22:12This is so mysterious, and it's, I mean, it's brutal.
22:16It's got a terrible sound to it.
22:17Yeah.
22:19So this, right now, I think it's not too early to say, is threatening to be a whoopsie-daisy contract
22:26with the way they assess this.
22:28And I know, they thought they did their homework, and they thought it was going to be okay, and it
22:33sounds like it's not okay.
22:33And it's not guaranteed, though, for next year, right?
22:35Correct.
22:36Three million guaranteed or something like that.
22:37For next year.
22:38Right.
22:39But it is for this year.
22:40It is.
22:41And, I mean, if it becomes, like, a situation where he can't actually play, then he becomes an expiring, something
22:47you can trade.
22:48And I don't know.
22:49I can't wait for the season to start.
22:51But I'm also really fascinated by the evolution of how this goes, because if it goes well, and Jimmy's looking
22:58like he might come back, Jimmy Butler, it's different than if it goes badly, and Jimmy is, you know, slow
23:04play his return, and Chris Tapps can't play.
23:06There's a lot of different things that are going to be in play.
23:08There's so many things in the air with the Golden State Warriors.
23:11It intrigues me.
23:12No doubt about it.
23:13But there's so many things that if it goes right, this can happen.
23:16But if it goes wrong, oh, it goes wrong.
23:18We didn't talk much about Yaxel in his debut against the L.A. Lakers, the South Bay Lakers, not the
23:23L.A. Lakers, because I don't know who they trotted out there.
23:26But we were discussing this, Goo.
23:28Are we putting too much on this plate?
23:30And he balled out the other game, and everybody's talking rookie of the year or all-rookie team, and he'll
23:36be in the conversation because of the usage rate.
23:38But, boy, it's a lot on his plate to carry the load, and he already may be their second or
23:43third best player.
23:44To me, he's the guy who shows up to Thanksgiving, and, you know, everyone's lining up to get the food
23:49off the main table, and he's got two plates.
23:51And so we're not putting too much on his plate because he's talking, and he's saying that, you know, not
23:57that he's going to be the dude, but he's kind of saying he's the dude.
24:00So, okay, you got two plates in the Thanksgiving line.
24:03Go ahead and fill those plates, young man.
24:05Yeah, to me, it's an indictment on what's around him.
24:09When you put the uniform on, you know, comes the pressure.
24:13But the bottom line is, well, when I'm getting my dinner ready now, Bonte, and I'm watching a Warrior game,
24:18after Steph Curry, what I want to lay eyes on is the 6'9", 240-pound youngster.
24:25And, you know, that's different than are they putting it on the plate.
24:28The bottom line is, I wish I had some other, you know, and I love me some Brandon Williams and
24:33Pods and you, but that's the guy right now for me, after Steph.
24:37And to be honest, I know what I'm getting from the chef.
24:40It's like, it's new, it's needed.
24:43I ain't been this excited about a big Chris Webber since Wiseman, but that feels about it.
24:48But a guy, so I'm, on my plate, I'm putting all the mashed potatoes on it.
24:53We don't get to do this.
24:54We don't get to do lottery picks the last, like, barely ever get to do this.
24:58So that's why we're excited.
24:59But I think Dib's point also, I don't know so much are we, are the Warriors putting so much on
25:04his plate.
25:05He is.
25:07He's very willing, and I love this about him, but he's very willing to just be playful, chit-chat.
25:15The other night, I'm going to get a lot of rebounds because it turns out everybody in the NBA is
25:19kind of lazy.
25:20That one I didn't like.
25:21I don't like that.
25:22I didn't like that one.
25:23He's willing to talk about how many points per game he's getting.
25:27I'm like, whoa.
25:2815, 6, and 4.
25:29My young brother has not played a game yet.
25:32Whoa, this is hot.
25:34Played the South Bay Lakers, man.
25:36And now he's calling rebounders lazy.
25:38I was like, whoa.
25:39Pretend you're Jalen Duren, and you're just sitting there on your couch watching TV.
25:44Young Bucks, like, so people don't want rebounds in the NBA.
25:47You're like, oh.
25:49I got you.
25:49Okay, when do we play Golden State?
25:51It's not Jalen Duren.
25:52What about Steve Kerr?
25:54Yeah, sure.
25:54And Frank Vogel.
25:56And Trayvon and Seftik and all.
25:57The young fella has a lot to learn.
25:59But he also, he's got a really good attitude, though, as well.
26:02Like, he wants to do the work.
26:04I almost wanted to throw up in my mouth at Major League Baseball real quick here.
26:10154 games.
26:11Why the hell would you drop it to eight?
26:13You don't need to touch it.
26:14And then if we get to a juncture where, hey, your team wins the division.
26:18Okay, I want to play, not Mark Bonte.
26:20I want to play Goo.
26:21How weak and whack is that, dibs?
26:25I wouldn't, the numbers are why we get these matchups.
26:28Not get to pick.
26:30Yeah, and I don't want to disrespect anybody who sends their kid to Montessori school, but
26:35it's Montessori pro sports where, and I always joke about playing golf, Bonte, where like
26:40Montessori scoring.
26:44My daughter did, and we had to pull her out of there because she needed structure.
26:49But Montessori golf is, you know, you play a hole and whatever.
26:53You might have had seven or eight shots, and it's like, you know what?
26:56Put me down for a five.
26:57A five would make me feel good.
26:59That's what this is.
27:00It's Montessori pro sports.
27:01Let me tell you why I like it.
27:03Oh, no, Will.
27:04I'll tell you why.
27:06Major League Baseball, this is sort of like when they did the whole let the kids play.
27:10They need a little juice boost in terms of, I don't want to call it necessarily trash
27:16talk, but the urgency of it, the emotion around it, and this is going to create, this
27:23is like a built-in bulletin board.
27:25Every team that goes on the road now is like, they picked us.
27:29They picked us, and so there's something there.
27:33And then I also wanted to share this with you, just the 154 game schedule.
27:37What's that about?
27:37Have you heard why?
27:38No.
27:38So MLB spokesperson says, 154 game schedule would allow us to introduce a weekly day off,
27:46which is good for, so every week, never would you play seven games.
27:50Good for player health.
27:51Also create a new national broadcast window to showcase the most exciting teams and players.
27:57Short of regular season unlocks, making October even better for the fans.
28:02Fewer weekday afternoon games, a longer division series, blah, blah, blah.
28:06So that's the thought process.
28:09And I know I'm old school, 56.
28:11When the Giants weren't playing this year on some Fridays or Sunday, I'm like, this is life.
28:17Where's ball?
28:17Oh, but I hadn't heard that, but I just, I hate the fact, hey, Dibs, I want to play against
28:24you.
28:25And I get it, Willard.
28:26Oh, you're going to be mad.
28:27But now, organically, that has to happen.
28:30And I guess in the NFL, where they re-seed the playoffs, that's kind of organically where, you know,
28:35if the seven seed goes ahead and wins, then, or if the five seed wins,
28:39then you go ahead and play the top seeded team based on, you know, the seeding in the playoffs.
28:44But I don't like the idea of, you know, you get to pick your opponent.
28:47Although, the way Mark laid it out is, it's kind of fun where, you know,
28:50you could do like a whole TV special and we're going to pick you.
28:54We're going to be mad.
28:55Exactly.
28:55We're going to be all mad about it.
28:56But, Randy told me we got to go.
28:58Has that ever happened on a crossover?
29:01Well, no.
29:02Not often.
29:03No, I'm kidding.
29:04Shout out Stiney.
29:06Goo sometimes asks.
29:07And then Stiney grabs his bag and leaves.
29:10And then sometimes Goo talks to us all the way until the first break.
29:14But it goes however it goes.
29:15Have a good 30.
29:16What's coming up real quick?
29:17I got to know.
29:18Well, as it turns out, Softie Mahler will be on the show.
29:22Oh, he will?
29:23Yeah.
29:24There will be the trash talk of Softie Mahler.
29:26That's why Divers is coming home.
29:28I think 315.
29:29Okay.
29:30Oh, boy.
29:31Oh, boy.
29:32Yeah, oh, boy.
29:32I'm getting out of here.
29:33Okay.
29:33Bye-bye.
