00:00we're all remembering this matchup incorrectly i've heard i've heard people over and over talk
00:05about how much the niners need to close the gap on the seahawks based on what happened last year
00:10and and and i'll i'll give you a little bit like of course there was a gap apparently there was
00:15a
00:15gap between the seahawks and all other teams in the nfl they won the super bowl so sure there was
00:20a gap we got to the end of the year and the seahawks were the better football team they beat
00:25the niners twice in a period of two weeks and so they're the better football team there's a gap
00:30it is not as large as i feel many of you think that it is you're remembering one game which
00:37was
00:38clearly a an outlier in its style in terms of what happens both when these two teams match up and
00:46quite frankly whenever the 49ers take the field i don't remember a whole lot of the other team has
00:5141 and the niners have six none of these are excuses but if you want to ignore the realities
00:57of it the injuries that were taking place the short rest the opening uh kickoff return for a touchdown
01:04all of these things and the fact that the seattle was awesome they were awesome and they were healthy
01:09and they were ready to go um a lot of those things that were in place in that game are
01:14not in place
01:15in in this football game so i just feel like by no stretch am i saying the niners are head
01:21and
01:21shoulders above the seahawks not saying that at all can't wait to see them play but this idea
01:26that we start the year with the 49ers being 35 points worse than the seahawks is ridiculous in
01:33my opinion i agree with it and i look at the second game they played in more import than the
01:39third game
01:40they played because the third game they played the playoff game short rest travel spot seattle had
01:45actually i think an eight day rest advantage because they didn't play and the niners had a
01:50short week based on a sunday turning into a saturday and a double travel spot these are not excuses it's
01:56the reality of the situation and that's why you want to be the one seed but i go back to
02:01the previous
02:01game week 18 and i watched a long recap of it earlier and a lot of us forget actually what
02:07happened
02:08in that game mark and i'm just gonna highlight a couple of moments okay where let's hear it's uh seattle's
02:13up 10 to 3 so this is the regular season game here at levi's at the end winner gets the
02:17one winner
02:17gets the one seat seattle's up 10 to 3 and the niners went for on fourth down earlier and they
02:22ran some cockamamie play action to use check which didn't work out terrible call grandy's grades i think
02:28he hated it we all did it didn't work out seattle also missed a field goal but on that drive
02:34four and
02:35a half minutes to go they had a bad snap uh donald gets it he tries to give it to
02:39charbonnet and it
02:40hit charbonnet in the butt and the ball is free on the field and there are four niners and charbonnet
02:44and charbonnet gets it okay loss of seven third and 17 kenneth walker runs for 19 yards i remember
02:52this play right it was devastating it was devastating the balls out we might get it short field tie the
02:58game to third and 19 or third and 17 they convert and so the little moments yes they lost the
03:05game 13 to
03:06three they couldn't do much blah blah blah they scored no touchdowns i get that i'm not trying
03:11to put lipstick on a week 18 loss but there were moments where things happened that went against
03:17the niners that ultimately kind of you know swung the game um i i completely agree i will also say
03:23however there's no doubting that at the end of the year last year the seahawks were the better football
03:27team um you know that game christian mccaffrey had the pass that he kind of shuttled right into the
03:33hands and it wasn't a great pass from purdy but it was a catchable pass and it kind of bounced

03:38of christian's hands and turned into a pick right at the two yard line um that could have made it

03:43to 10 but yep these are the things that happened in in that football game and seattle was clearly the
03:48better team at that time but that's that's what i i woke up today sort of with eyes wide open
03:55on the fact that these two groups are not those groups um i mean just spit out the names just

04:05out the names that were a part of those football games or not a part of those football games who
04:14will be a part of this football game so especially if you want to talk about the playoff game the
04:20playoff game had no fred warner it had no drake greenlaw it had no george kittle it had no debo
04:25samuel it had no mike evans it had no kaylon black it had none of those people and for the
04:32seahawks it
04:33did have kenneth walker and it did have zach charbonnet um and so uh this is different this is different
04:40and
04:41you can say that this is revisionist history if you want i don't agree i do not think that that
04:47playoff game last year was representative of what we're about to see this year we'll see this
04:53i still think this can be really hard uh the niners are are the underdog they're the underdog in this
04:58football game the world expects them to come home with a three-point loss and they might um which is
05:06not a disaster on the season by any stretch um but if they do then i'll still say well then
05:12the gap
05:13the gap is it's right there like yeah i think these are the two best teams in the nfc
05:19and so i'm not necessarily you know guru and evan we're talking a lot i know a lot of people
05:25are just
05:25like this is going to be the first of three matchups maybe look if you don't win the nfc west
05:30you're
05:30gonna have to do your work on the road in the playoffs and no matter who you're playing that's
05:33hard so i don't i don't know if they're playing three times this year i know they're playing twice
05:37and i would expect both of them to be very very physical low scoring close games yes and i think
05:44that just hearing what they were saying i kind of agree in terms of you know the best two teams
05:50and
05:50honestly the best three teams i would put the rams as the third best team in the nfc right now
05:55i mean
05:56the cowboys did what they did the giants have no quarterback washington's quarterback is coming back
06:01and philadelphia is a mess the south is the south the north i think chicago could be can be i
06:07got eyes
06:07on the bears i do too and sneaky did you see caleb williams practice today and is questionable he is
06:14i don't think he'll play i mean he might he's allowed to the vikings are four and oh i love
06:19their defense but their offense is mostly a non-starter green bay is a mess and i think
06:25that dan campbell might be the first one out the door in detroit because they've been woefully
06:30underachieving so we did this before like there's probably seven good nfc teams and well that list
06:36might be down to three or four yeah and so if you want to look at the three here as
06:41the best three
06:41and i think that it's fair to say that well you need to be the one if you're the one
06:46seed you get
06:47the buy and then you have to have seattle as the five seed and the rams as the six you
06:51got to go out
06:52there and win on the road they probably will and let's just say that whoever is the four there or
06:58whoever's the two seed they beat the seven seed and so you wind up taking on the rams well that
07:04would be at home and if you win that and seattle wins you would have seattle at home for me
07:09it's all
07:10about being the one seed in this uh format with these teams no doubt and and obviously sunday is a
07:16big opportunity for them to have a leg up in that conversation i don't see losing this game sunday
07:21as preventative of that by the way um that's another like do the niners have a leg up on seattle
07:28and the rams if they win yes does seattle have a leg up on the ray on the niners if
07:32they win
07:33tiny tiny you're talking about four and one versus four and one with one of the two games already in
07:41hand but the niners would have two other division wins in hand seattle doesn't have uh two they have
07:47one other but they don't have what you know they still have both their games against the rams ahead
07:51like in other words um it would still be on the table for the 49ers for sure to win the
07:57division
07:57if they were to lose sunday um the seahawks and rams are they're in a little bit of a tough
08:03spot
08:04if um if the seahawks lose there's enough time to overcome it but you get the niners to five and
08:10oh
08:10and feeling really good about themselves um i mean you're gonna have to sort of kind of
08:16have everything be perfect the rest of the way to jump them in the division you got to come catch
08:20them exactly you look at seattle they go to uh the broncos on a short week as we mentioned and
08:27then
08:27you've got the chiefs at home with extra rest but it's the chiefs and then you are going to face
08:32caleb williams assuming he comes back and stays healthy so that would be your next three and then
08:38you've got whatever cardinals raiders niners again the cowboys who i thought were better than this
08:43i mean the giants and eagles it's funny we play the schedule game and now you look at the schedule
08:47for seattle and even the niners it's like okay uh the giants no quarterback the eagles my god what a
08:54mess and dallas yeah exactly dallas was i mean there's no reason why they lost that game last
08:59night but i'm glad you and i talked about it on air and off air because you did great something
09:04about that you followed your gut yeah you i loved that last night because you followed your gut
09:10like people won't know this but behind the scenes you were like i don't know something feels fishy
09:15about this totally you followed you listened you listened i wish everybody would do this in life
