Ken Paxton calls out Talarico’s 11-day absence at Trump rally

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton put Democratic Senate candidate James Talarico’s recent absence from the campaign trail in the spotlight during President Donald Trump’s rally in San Antonio.

Paxton told the crowd that Talarico had not been seen campaigning in Texas for 11 days and led supporters in chanting, “Where is Talarico?”

Talarico’s campaign quickly explained the absence, saying the Democratic candidate had been dealing with the flu after a busy campaign schedule that included more than 100 public events.

Campaign spokesperson JT Ennis said, “After holding more than 100 public events and shaking tens of thousands of hands, James came down with the flu but will be back on the trail this weekend.”

Ennis also used the response to criticize Paxton, arguing that the Republican candidate’s priorities are focused on wealthy donors and special interests rather than Texans.

Trump also addressed Talarico’s absence during his speech, while criticizing the Democrat’s positions on immigration, public safety and education and encouraging Texas voters to support Paxton.

The exchange comes as both candidates enter the final weeks of a closely watched Texas Senate race.
