02:18It means the world to see so many friends and neighbors standing together in my hometown to kick off this
02:26campaign for the United States Senate.
02:31First, I want to thank my family, my mom, my dad, my sister Madeline, my brother-in-law Matt, my
02:38aunts and uncles and cousins.
02:40Thank y'all for being here, not just tonight, but at every step along this journey.
02:46And thank you to all of you for being here.
02:50We announced this event just 12 hours ago.
02:55And I was told when I walked up that there are more than a thousand people here to kick off
03:00this campaign.
03:03This is truly a campaign of, by, and for the people.
03:11The only minority destroying America is the billionaires.
03:16Trans people are 1% of the population.
03:20Muslims are 1% of the population.
03:25Undocumented people are 1% of the population.
03:29We are focused on the wrong 1%.
03:31Trans people aren't taking away our health care.
03:36Muslims aren't defunding our schools.
03:39Immigrants aren't cutting taxes for themselves and their rich friends.
03:44It's the billionaires and their puppet politicians.
03:47The culture wars are a smokescreen.
03:50So many of the divisions in this state and in this country are manufactured by billionaires who want us fighting
03:59each other instead of fighting them.
04:01They want us looking left and right at our neighbors instead of looking up at them.
04:08The biggest divide in our politics is not left versus right.
04:13It's top versus bottom.
04:19I probably shouldn't start a political campaign by saying something nice about my opponents.
04:25Colin Allred is a good man.
04:28Two years ago, we all put our faith in him as our Democratic nominee.
04:33And I was out there with a lot of you helping him try to defeat Ted Cruz.
04:39At the time, I said, Ted Cruz is the worst senator in America.
04:44Looking at this current Republican field in this race, I think that title is up for grabs.
04:52I have profound disagreements with Ken Paxton and John Cornyn.
05:00Neither of them deserve the honor of representing this great state in our nation's capital.
05:07Both of them are more interested in serving their billionaire donors than serving the people of Texas.
05:15But Ken Paxton and John Cornyn are both children of God.
05:22My faith teaches me to pray for my opponents even when we disagree.
05:29It teaches me to love my neighbors, especially those with whom I disagree the most.
05:36I want to leave you with this one thought.
05:40My granddad was a Baptist preacher in South Texas.
05:44And he taught me when I was real little that we follow a barefoot rabbi who gave just two commandments.
05:53Love God and love neighbor.
05:55Because there is no love of God without love of neighbor.
06:03This American democracy is a lot more than a constitution.
06:09It's a covenant.
06:11It's a relationship between neighbors.
06:14It's a promise that we make to each other to share this country.
06:202,000 years ago, when the powerful few abused the many, that barefoot rabbi walked into the seat of power
06:31and flipped over the tables of injustice.
06:34His love rose to meet that abuse without becoming it.
06:39And to those who love this state, to those who love this country, to those who love our neighbors, it's
06:49time to start flipping tables.
