00:00Corrupt politician in Texas. Three years ago, Ken Paxton was impeached by his own party,
00:07by his fellow Republicans, for using his public office, his position of public trust,
00:12to enrich himself and his donors at the expense of the people of Texas.
00:18Ken Paxton represents everything that's wrong with this broken, corrupt system.
00:23We just kicked off our Clear Eyes, Full Hearts tour, and at this time of year in Texas,
00:29there is no better place to be than a high school football game.
00:33The band, the roar of the crowd, the chill in the air, no matter who you are, no matter what
00:41you look like,
00:42everyone in town is there for the same reason, to root for the same team.
00:46When I was in high school, they were filming a TV show in our area.
00:51It was called Friday Night Lights.
00:54It's a show about the Dillon Panthers, an underdog high school football team, and their coach, Eric Taylor.
01:02In the very first episode, right before the big game, Coach Taylor gives a locker room speech.
01:07He says, they're going to come at you with everything they've got.
01:11I expect you boys to execute.
01:14I expect you boys to play football.
01:17And then he ends with six immortal words.
01:22Clear Eyes, Full Hearts, Can't Lose.
01:26Beaumont, there is a moment in every game, the last play, the last drive, when you have to leave it
01:33all on the field.
01:35We are in that moment.
01:37In the final days of this election, they are coming at us with everything they've got.
01:41The billionaire megadonors, the super PACs, they have already spent $200 million on attack ads to try to stop us.
01:50That is the most of any Senate race in American history.
01:54And more is on the way.
01:56They are scared.
01:58They are terrified.
02:00They see what we see, that we're about to win this election.
02:11We are building a movement to take back our state and take back our country.
02:17We are uniting Texans from all backgrounds and all beliefs onto one team to take on this broken, corrupt political
02:25system.
02:25We have recruited more than 60,000 volunteers to knock doors, to make phone calls, to send text messages.
02:34If you haven't signed up to volunteer yet, I hope you'll do so on our website when you go home
02:38today.
02:39We have shattered every grassroots fundraising record in American history.
02:44And we've done it without taking a dime from corporate PACs.
02:48This is a people power for the time.
02:53And on November 3rd, we are going to do something extraordinary.
02:58We are going to do something historic.
02:59We are going to shock the nation.
03:01We're going to shock the world when we beat the billionaires and take back Texas.
03:12We are going to end 30 years of one-party rule in our state.
03:17And we're going to elect a senator who's going to serve all 31 million Texans.
03:23We have forgotten that that's what politics is supposed to be about.
03:27It's supposed to be about service.
03:30Elected officials aren't supposed to serve themselves.
03:32They're not supposed to serve their mega donors.
03:34They are supposed to serve us.
03:36They're supposed to serve the people.
03:39I first learned the meaning of service from my great-grandfather, my poppy.
03:44He was a barber in Port O'Connor, Texas, on the Gulf Coast.
03:48And he served this country in World War II in the Pacific Theater.
03:53Poppy was a member of the greatest generation, a group of Americans who asked not what their
03:59country could do for them, but what they could do for their country.
04:03And whether he was cutting his neighbor's hair or fighting fascism on the other side of
04:08the world, my poppy was always serving other people.
04:11He was a faithful man.
04:15That's the best word I can think of to describe him.
04:18He was a devout Christian.
04:19And he tried to actually live like Jesus, who in the words of Scripture came not to be served,
04:27but to serve.
04:28And that's how my poppy lived his life.
04:30My poppy came not to be served, but to serve.
04:34And that's what inspired me to go into public service.
04:36First, as a public school teacher on the west side of San Antonio, where I taught sixth-grade
04:41language arts at Rhodes Middle School, home of the fighting Wildcats.
04:46I always say that teaching middle school is the best preparation for politics.
04:52It's served me well so far in this campaign.
04:54I entered the classroom in the fall of 2011, right after the Texas legislature cut more
05:02than $5 billion from public education.
05:05I saw the impact of those cuts firsthand.
05:09I saw programs get eliminated.
05:11I saw students slip through the cracks.
05:14I saw class sizes grow.
05:16At one point, I had 45 students in one classroom.
05:20There weren't enough desks for all those kids, so I had students sitting on the air conditioning
05:27unit in the wealthiest country in human history, in the 21st century, children sitting on the
05:35air conditioning unit.
05:36And that made me mad.
05:37I ended up running an education nonprofit in Central Texas that was helping students like
05:42mine.
05:43And then when a seat in that very same legislature that had cut those $5 billion opened up in
05:49my hometown of Round Rock, Texas, I threw my hat in the ring.
05:52I was 28 years old.
05:54I had never run for office before.
05:56I was a Democrat running in a Trump district in a county that was so red it hadn't voted
06:02for a Democrat for president since Jimmy Carter.
06:05I was told by the powers that be in the Democratic Party that that race was a lost cause.
06:11I was told that even if you could win a district like that, I was too young.
06:15I didn't have the money.
06:16I didn't have the political connections to pull off an upset of that kind.
06:21But my neighbors and I, we came together and we ran an aggressive, authentic, at times
06:29unorthodox campaign that brought people together.
06:32And on election night, we flipped that district with 51% of the vote.
06:42Now, now I'm in my fourth term in the Texas House where I have brought Democrats and Republicans
06:48together to pass 60 bipartisan bills, bills that bills that raise teacher pay, bills that
06:55cut property taxes, bills that lower the cost of housing and childcare and prescription drugs,
07:00including insulin.
07:01I ran for office, not to be served, but to serve.
07:08And then, and then there's Ken Paxton, the most, the most corrupt politician in Texas.
07:20Three years ago, Ken Paxton was impeached by his own party, by his fellow Republicans for
07:26using his public office, his position of public trust to enrich himself and his donors at the
07:33expense of the people of Texas.
07:35Ken Paxton represents everything that's wrong with this broken, corrupt system.
07:41He doesn't serve us.
07:42He serves himself.
07:45Since taking office, Ken Paxton has increased his net worth by $27 million.
07:51All while our pay has remained stagnant.
07:55He now owns 15 homes while most Texans are struggling to afford one.
08:01It's, it's hard to get 15 homes in a game of Monopoly.
08:04I don't know how Ken Paxton got 15 homes.
08:07He was impeached for taking bribes from wealthy donors all while he blocks our overtime pay and
08:14guts our healthcare.
08:15This is the rot at the core of this broken system.
08:19It's why so many Texans can't get ahead no matter how hard they work.
08:24It's why we can't afford the basics in this economy because the system has been rigged by
08:31billionaires and their puppet politicians like Ken Paxton.
08:36But Beaumont, we can change that.
08:39We can turn this around in this election, in this state, in this race.
08:44If we come together, not as Democrats and Republicans, but as Texans to defeat the most
08:51corrupt politician in our state, then we can come together to defeat this entire corrupt
08:57system.
08:57I've already said that the first bill I'm going to file as your U.S.
09:02senator is a comprehensive anti-corruption agenda.
09:06Getting big money out of our politics by overturning Citizens United.
09:16Banning, banning corporate PACs and super PACs so billionaires can't buy our elections.
09:22Banning members of Congress in both political parties from trading stocks and enriching themselves
09:28while they're in public office.
09:32Banning gerrymandering in every state in the union, red states and blue states.
09:39And finally, passing term limits so we can show these puppet politicians the door.
09:47This is why they're spending $200 million against us.
09:52This is why those billionaire megadonors are coming after us.
09:55Actually, actually, it's really just one billionaire megadonor.
10:00Elon Musk is trying to buy this Senate seat in Texas.
10:07We just found out that the richest man in the world is almost single-handedly bankrolling
10:13this effort to install Ken Paxton in the U.S. Senate and stop this movement that we're
10:18building in Texas.
10:19In all likelihood, if you've seen an attack ad on your TV, that was Elon.
10:24If you've gotten lies in your mailbox, that was Elon.
10:28If you've received a text message saying scary things about me, that was Elon too.
10:34Our movement is funded by 1.3 million individuals who have donated their hard-earned money to this campaign.
10:46Ken Paxton is funded by one dude.
10:52Elon Musk wants our land.
10:55He wants our water.
10:57He wants our taxpayer dollars.
10:59And he wants his very own personal United States Senator.
11:03He is trying to buy Texas.
11:05But on November 3rd, we're going to deliver a crystal-clear message to the world's first trillionaire.
11:12Texas is not for sale.
11:21This election reminds me of that story from Scripture of a shepherd boy who goes up against a giant.
11:28For 40 days, Goliath taunts and teases.
11:33On the day of the fight, he shows up in full armor.
11:36He's carrying so many weapons, he needs someone else to carry his shield.
11:41We are going up against our own Goliaths.
11:44Those billionaire mega-donors.
11:46Those corporate special interests.
11:48The entire Washington, D.C. establishment.
11:51Their power is real.
11:53But so is ours.
11:57David may not have been as big or as strong as Goliath.
12:01He may not have had as many weapons.
12:04But he had hope.
12:05He had faith.
12:07And he had a slingshot.
12:11Beaumont, you are my slingshot.
12:16The people of Texas are my slingshot.
12:21And on November 3rd, those Goliaths aren't going to know what hit them.
12:26We are going to do something historic, Beaumont.
12:29We're going to do something extraordinary.
12:30But we have a lot of work to do in these final two weeks.
12:33A lot of work.
12:34But if we do that work, if we do it together, I am confident.
12:38I feel it in my bones that we are going to win this election.
12:42And we are going to elect a senator who will serve and not be served.
12:47This is the last play of the last drive.
12:50This is that moment we have to leave it all on the field.
12:54Because, as every Texan knows, clear eyes, full hearts, can't lose.
13:00Thank you for being here, Beaumont.
13:01God bless you.
13:02Let's go with this thing.
