00:02We begin this morning with another big primary win for President Trump.
00:06His pick for the Texas Senate race just took out a longtime Republican incumbent.
00:11Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton won the Republican nomination for U.S. Senate Tuesday night,
00:17handily defeating four-term Senator John Cornyn in a high-stakes runoff.
00:22Trump threw his support behind Paxton just last week, calling him a true MAGA warrior.
00:27With the loss, Cornyn becomes the first Republican U.S. Senator from Texas to lose a GOP re-election primary,
00:35according to the Associated Press.
00:37Paxton made sure to thank Trump during his victory speech.
00:40When everyone in Washington told him to abandon me and abandon the people of Texas, he didn't listen.
00:46Instead, he gave his complete and total endorsement.
00:50President Trump is the leader of our party, and his endorsement is the most powerful force in politics.
00:58And I'm honored to have his support, and I look forward to working with him in the Senate to deliver
01:03for Texas.
01:06And I've always supported the Republican ticket, and I intend to do so again in this general election.
01:14I've said throughout this race that I trust the voters of Texas, and they've made their decision, and I must
01:24respect it.
01:25Paxton now advances to a November showdown against Democrat James Tallarico.
01:30Tuesday's runoffs also shaped several House races across Texas.
01:34In Houston, freshman Congressman Christian Menefee defeated longtime Representative Al Green in the Democratic runoff for the 18th District.
01:43And former Congressman Colin Allred has unseated Representative Julie Johnson in the Democratic primary for Dallas' Deep Blue 33rd District.
01:52Also, Democrat Johnny Garcia won his party's primary in Texas' 35th District in San Antonio, defeating Maureen Galindo.
02:01Thank you very much for joining us today.
