Find out who Jansen has ranked first in his Power Surge.

00:00Oh, the plot thickens. John, who are the best teams in the NFL?
00:04It certainly does because my number one team last week, Buffalo Bills, they lost to the New England Patriots in
00:12Drake May.
00:12San Francisco, Kansas City, Seattle, Baltimore, and Minnesota all rounded out the top six last week.
00:20So I've broken these into kind of what I did in week one into tiers.
00:26And I'm going to start with tier three because tier three are teams that have a lot of warts and
00:33we're not really sure about what these teams are.
00:36And so I'll start there. Detroit obviously falls into tier three at two and two.
00:41New England at two and two. Obviously, they had that big win against the Bills, but still Drake May.
00:45Too many turnovers. I don't rely. I don't I don't know that we can rely on them to be a
00:49good team.
00:49And obviously, we know they had a heroic catch, which that player, what was his his chism?
00:56Yeah, he broke Cooper Cupps record in college and he was undrafted Eastern Washington guy.
01:05Yeah. And so in terms of receptions, yards, all of those things, he obliterated Cooper Cupps record.
01:11So we'll see what he offers and he might be a hidden gem for New England.
01:17But Cleveland at three and one, I'm just not ready to buy into them, even though they're a three and
01:23one team.
01:24Cincinnati, two and two, Philly, Dallas, the Giants are also three and one.
01:29I'm just not ready to buy into a team that is led by Jameis Winston and is backed up by
01:35J.J. McCarthy.
01:37Yeah. Green Bay, as well as kind of the same thing as Detroit.
01:40And I hate the fact that we're talking about Detroit and Green Bay in the same category.
01:44They should be a tier lower. Green Bay.
01:49But is is it possible?
01:50Now, I know that they have some injuries at the wide receiver position, but that even though Jordan Love is
01:55not a great quarterback, could he still light up the secondary?
01:59Well, that's not saying much.
02:01It's but and I'm going to say a stat right now.
02:06Detroit right now has allowed more passing yards than anyone else in the NFL.
02:13And they have allowed thirty one point eight points per game.
02:16So hold on to that stat for just a moment, because there's something that doesn't make sense to me.
02:20I already talked about Green Bay.
02:21We got Carolina, Indy and Pittsburgh, all the two and two rounding out tier three tier two.
02:28We've got the Raiders, which never thought we'd be talking about the Raiders, but they played extremely well against Kansas
02:35City.
02:35That was kind of the are they for real game and we'll still be casting that judgment on them because
02:41of where they're coming from.
02:42But Kirk Cousins has played well and they had a chance to win that game.
02:45The Rams at two and two absolutely saved their season.
02:48They were on death's door looking at one and three and then made a miraculous comeback to win that game
02:55last weekend.
02:56Chicago with three and one still not in the top six.
02:59Denver at two and two, and I know you were all over me last week about Denver, but hey, they
03:04lost.
03:05They did.
03:06And Baltimore at three and one, not in the power surge that that rounds out tier two.
03:12So my top teams.
03:15Number six, Minnesota four and oh, and they didn't move up because I'm not really sure what to make of
03:24Minnesota because they offensively.
03:28They're not great points for 86 through the course of the season, but they've been able to do it obviously
03:34with a couple of different quarterbacks and Carson Wentz has come in and played extremely well in the stead of
03:40Kyler Murray.
03:40Kyler Murray's back and it's not like they're lighting the world on fire, but defensively I would argue that they
03:46are a top two defense in the NFL right now.
03:51They have the number one defense points allowed two wins without scoring a touchdown.
03:55All right, but I also kind of look at some of their opponents and say, is this for real?
04:00One of them obviously being Chicago where they only allow what three points, but it was with Caleb Williams going
04:08down.
04:08It was in the rain.
04:10We can get more to that.
04:11And here's where the neck that I want you to remember that stat.
04:13I told you about passing yards and and points per game.
04:16The Jacksonville Jaguars come in at five.
04:21They are three and one and their defense is only allowing 13.3 points per game.
04:27They have allowed the second most passing yards in the NFL and it's less than a hundred less than what
04:37Detroit has allowed.
04:37Please explain that to me.
04:40How have they allowed so many yards yet?
04:44They're only letting up 13.3 points per game.
04:47I have a theory.
04:49Please share turnovers, man.
04:53It's got to be red zone and turnovers that get marched up and down, but they get the key stop
04:57or the key takeaway.
04:58But but is that something that they can always rely on in the red zone?
05:03It's it's worked through four games, but I think this is a good thing for you to circle.
05:06Everyone loves three and one Jacksonville.
05:08Great story.
05:09Is it built on a house of cards?
05:10Right.
05:11And that's where I want to just raise the red flag.
05:13And that's why Jacksonville is not higher, because you look at their points that they've scored.
05:17They're scoring at a rate of two to one.
05:20And I just don't understand how that is where it is because of the the fact that they they can't
05:26play.
05:26They can't defend the pass.
05:27Number four, Seattle three and one.
05:31And it's that loss at Washington that is weighing them down.
05:35And I say weighing them down.
05:36There's still four in the NFL.
05:38Buffalo is at three following that loss to New England.
05:41And it is on the heels of a poor performance against the Chargers where they turned up all over.
05:48I believe it was five times and still one.
05:51And I said at the time, if you can win playing your worst football, I think that is the sign
05:58of a really good team.
05:58But then they follow it off by losing to New England.
06:01So TBD on where they're going.
06:04Number two, Kansas City.
06:07Some would argue one.
06:09And I'm sure I'll probably get that pushback from you.
06:11They've beaten the Broncos, the Colts, the Dolphins and the Raiders.
06:16And so I look at that and I say, well, compared to San Francisco, who's my number one team?
06:21They've beaten the Rams, which I think is a better win than what Kansas City has because the San Francisco
06:28just beat the Broncos as well.
06:30So there's a direct comparison there.
06:32But then it's the Dolphins and the Cardinals in the middle.
06:34So a lot of crossover between these two.
06:37And I just I put the San Francisco 49ers at the top because Brock Purdy is playing at an MVP
06:43level and they have a better win over the Rams, at least as of now, than Kansas City has over
06:52the Raiders or the Broncos.
06:55I'm not going to yell at you.
06:56Oh, OK.
06:58Did I do?
06:58Did I?
06:58Did I live up to Jim Costa's expectations?
07:02I think the Chiefs are the better team, but I see why you did what you did.
07:06The Niners are top three in both offense and defense.
07:10That Rams win is something that Kansas City doesn't have on their resume.
07:14Although I don't know what to do with that game because it was in the upside down, literally down under
07:19in Australia.
07:19But it happened and it counts and I can't take that away from San Fran.
07:24I get it.
07:24And that Rams win was without Aaron Donald and a Miles Garrett that now we're finding out was, you know,
07:33playing injured.
07:34Don't know when he's going to be back.
07:36And Aaron Donald hasn't been the great Aaron Donald of old.
07:41But I don't necessarily expect that we're going to get the best of him until we get to about weeks
07:45eight or nine.
07:46I wrote down seven teams knowing that I could give you a hard time, whoever you left out.
07:51Oh, good for you.
07:52I look forward to it.
07:53It's my favorite part of the power surge.
07:54It's just nitpicking all the work that you did.
07:56All right.
07:56So who did I?
07:57Who was the seventh team that I didn't put in the top six?
07:59It's a team with a top 10 offense and a top 10 defense.
08:02It's a team that's three and one.
08:04It's a team that's won three different games by double digits with three different quarterbacks.
08:08Should the Bears be in over the Jags?
08:13Well, I have the Jags in there because I think they're a more complete team.
08:18I think they are to this point have been more consistent.
08:23But I do raise the flag on the passing yards allowed.
08:28But to your point, if it's turnovers in the red zone or if it's just that, hey, between the 20s,
08:33they've got to figure things out.
08:34But when they get their red zone, defense has been unbelievable.
08:38Tom, peanut gallery feedback.
08:40I think you nailed it this week.
08:42I think this might be your easiest week of the season.
08:44I mean, we can argue one through six and how you might want to rank them.
08:47But the six are definitive to me.
08:49I don't I would put the Bears at seven.
08:52I think they're a clear seven.
08:53But the Vikings beat the Bears.
08:55And right now I would take the Jags over the Bears.
08:58Round it out with this.
08:59I've got where the Lions are and everybody else's.
09:01You had them tier three.
09:02So not, you know, anywhere near the six.
09:04The Athletic has the Lions 12th.
09:07USA Today has them 15th.
09:10ESPN and NFL.com have the Lions 16th.
09:13Right dead in the middle of football at two and two.
09:16There are others that view them less favorably.
09:18Sporting News, Sports Illustrated, both at 18.
09:21Yahoo at 19.
09:22And CBS says the defense is horrible.
09:25The Lions are number 20.
09:29And the defense is horrible.
09:30And I don't disagree with that at all.
09:34One of the fun things that I get to do when I break when I do the power surge is
09:38I call a bunch of my former teammates that are watching intently every single week because they're just huge NFL
09:45fans.
09:46But most of them would have not put Minnesota in.
09:51Most of them don't trust the offense.
09:54Kyler Murray.
09:55And I keep going back to how good Kevin O'Connell is as a coach.
10:00Yes, he's not won playoff games.
10:01He's not won a Super Bowl.
10:03But that's where I disagree.
10:05And so I'm just I'm going against the some former NFL players.
10:11And I just I think that defense under Brian Flores is awesome.
10:18My last pitch to the networks to start adopting the numbers next to the names in the NFL, because, John,
10:23we would have number one versus number four in the power surge this week in the NFL.
10:28Can I throw one just nugget at you with Jacksonville?
10:31Actually, I want to ask you a question real quick on the fly.
10:33What is Jacksonville's record in their last 12 regular season games?
10:38Oh, I'm good.
10:38I don't know the answer to that question, but I'm going to guess they are 10 and 2, 9 and
10:433, 11 and 1.
10:44Wow.
10:45All right.
10:46And a lot of those were double digit discos last year.
10:48But that doesn't include playoffs, right?
10:50There's a regular season.
10:51Yeah.
10:51OK, right.
10:53Tom's regular season.
10:54Tom's regular season stat does not include the postseason.
10:57Good clarification.
10:58John, it's Power Surge 97-1.
