00:00morning ray good morning everyone a couple of tough acts to follow this morning
00:06yeah you got you're following jay leno by the way everybody ray bork please
00:12they love you down here i i ray i bet i i guarantee you played some golf in rhode island
00:20yes one of more set one of the best courses in rhode island and uh my son got married in
00:26newport on gold island so we spent uh three four days there a little bit before the wedding had
00:33a great time and my son coaches and uh one of the assistant coaches for the providence bruins so
00:39i'm going there on sunday so great state wow it is a great state it's great food state too um
00:44well
00:45listen uh team's team starts the season with a win and uh you know it's against the rangers but a
00:52team
00:52that they they needed to beat they have to beat that team um and i'm i'm sure you were watching
00:56what uh what did you see that you liked right out of the gate from the bruins ray well number
01:03one uh
01:03well number one is swimming so he uh he had an amazing game you know he was up for besina
01:09last year seems like he'll probably be up for that again this year and he's uh he's such a
01:16stabilizing force for them gives them a chance to win every night and uh they played a solid game
01:21i thought i thought they outchance the rangers um you know it was a nothing nothing game till about
01:28four minutes left but you just thought that you know you're hoping that they're going to break
01:32through and find a way to score a goal um it's not one of those you know yell play a
01:38team out chance
01:39a team and um you hope you don't lose any points to to going out and playing that well so
01:45i thought
01:45they were solid all over um you know peterka scored an amazing goal he's a very dynamic player i think
01:54that was a great addition for them um i remember him at 17 years old he was playing with my
02:00son and uh
02:01in munich as a 17 year old playing for red bull out there and uh you kind of knew that
02:06this guy was
02:07going to be a special player and um they need more players like that and i think he's going to
02:12be a
02:12great grown and a great addition um d played solid you know all four lines did a good job so
02:19they're
02:20off to a good start a little road trip here coming up starting in winnipeg tonight so uh you know
02:25they
02:25were a great road team uh kind of a good road team last year but they were so good at
02:30home so i think
02:31they'll be good at home again now you know you start uh in winnipeg tonight you hope you get off
02:36to a
02:37good start on the road and come back for a few after that so ray you bring up peterka and
02:43everybody's
02:44talking about him but when you look at all the new names all the young guys who who's maybe a
02:48dark
02:48horse that not enough people are talking about in your mind um you know uh borgen is um i think
02:58is
02:58going to be a good addition he's uh he's he's tall he's lanky he's physical i think he'll bring a
03:05nice
03:06present um on d um and you know i love mitten i mean he was last year he had a
03:14great rookie season
03:15um really happy with uh with them signing him to a long-term deal i think this guy is going
03:21to be an
03:21amazing broon uh maybe down the road uh you know maybe wear the sea at some point uh a little
03:29later
03:29in his career but he has that kind of character um so you know not that many new faces in
03:36the lineup
03:37to be uh to be honest i thought lori got off to a good start we're looking for good things
03:42out of him
03:43and his growth as a player he's very talented and skilled and a big kid back there i think he's
03:49ready
03:50to kind of pop uh and if he does that'll be uh um really uh a great uh a great
03:56addition on the d
03:57because he's uh he's very talented and i think a lot is expected out of him this year so i
04:05think
04:05this just keeps growing i think you know they they got some great veterans i love that fourth line
04:10that toughness that they bring and that steadiness um so i you know i i like they're going to be
04:17they're very structured team i think it's going to be a lot like last year where uh structured and
04:22uh how they go about their business they're very well coached um but it starts with uh playing
04:28without the puck for them and they got the goalie to make the big saves ray you talked about the
04:34goalie
04:34and swayman take us in the mind of a defenseman just a hockey player when you know you have a
04:40guy
04:40that's an elite level goalie who's between the pipes what what is it like to know that you have
04:48that type of player and does it make you more aggressive as a uh a defenseman to be like okay
04:53can gamble a little bit more kind of walk us through that and did you ever play with a guy
04:56that
04:57was at that level where you know like all right he could bail us out if you know maybe i
05:01got a little
05:01too aggressive and didn't make a play i think it's not so much aggressive it's i think it's when you
05:08mess up and it's not necessarily always when you're uh you're overly aggressive and yes i did play
05:15you know we had a great tandem and andy moog and reggie lemlin but then at the end of my
05:20career i got
05:20to play uh in front of patrick law that saved my butt many many uh times uh and and allowed
05:28me to
05:29experience winning a cup without him i don't know if we're uh we're able to accomplish that so
05:34i don't think it's so much being more aggressive it's just uh knowing that when there's a breakdown
05:39uh that there's a very good chance that uh he'll save the day right you've as you alluded to you
05:47went
05:48on the highest level at the highest level and we've just finished a baseball season that ended
05:52prematurely for a lot of us with the red sox a big debate about analytics its involvement in sports
05:58and clutch in the way in which that plays into a championship roster where do you fall on the
06:04new reliance on analytics and the um the way in which these organizations are being run
06:12i think you use it um but uh when it comes down to it you you got to feel it
06:18in your gut and uh when
06:20that moment comes i know there's a lot of debate about you know pulling both starters and those first
06:26two games and i don't know i i i just like to think that if i was on the mound
06:33or you know i think
06:36it's more in baseball than hockey hockey is you know it's a lot faster game so you you can't really
06:44rely on making that split decision in a second um but i think in baseball uh it comes up a
06:52lot more
06:52and i know that if i'm on the mound uh in that situations i i hate being pulled off because
07:01i i
07:02want to finish the job in that instinct so i think you rely on it going into games and kind
07:08of
07:08preparing preparation for games and all that stuff but i think in hockey it's used and and prep more
07:15than during the game and in other sports like baseball i think it's used during a game a lot more
07:20than
07:21any other sport ray it's great having you on all season long we appreciate you taking the time
07:27this morning and you said you're on you're going to go watch the providence bees on sunday down here
07:33yeah sunday afternoon i think it's their first home game so i'll uh go chair them on
07:39all right everybody the great ray the great raymond bork ray thank you we'll talk to you again next week
07:46thanks guys see you next week all right that is ray bork we're in newport rhode island
