A comforting week of UK family dinners takes you from chicken kievs and chicken pies to fish and chips, cottage pie, creamy pasta, and a slow cooker beef casserole. Cheryl shares what the family ate across the week, with simple homemade meals, pub-style dishes in Arran, and plenty of cosy comfort food along the way.

Monday starts with chicken and ham kievs, creamy mashed potato and sweetcorn, followed by chicken, vegetable and gravy pies with wedges, chips and baked beans. Midweek, the family are away in Arran and eat at the Douglas Hotel, where the menu includes a hot honey chicken burger, macaroni cheese, and massive fish and chips with mushy peas and tartar sauce. Back home, there’s a classic cottage pie with broccoli and carrots, then a creamy cheesy garlic chilli pasta with garlic bread, before finishing with a slow cooker beef casserole packed with potatoes, carrots, peas and gravy.

For anyone who enjoys family meals of the week, easy dinner ideas, Scottish home cooking, pub food in Arran, and comforting weeknight recipes, this is a relaxed food vlog with plenty of everyday meal inspiration. It’s ideal for viewers looking for UK family dinners, homemade comfort food, and simple meal ideas for the week.

00:06well hello there folks and a very warm welcome back to what's for tea it's lovely to see you
00:12all again as usual and i hope you've had a good week yourself and thanks for popping over just
00:17to see what i've made for the family meals this week as usual starting off on monday through till
00:23today which is sunday and if i've done a video on anything that you see i will always leave it
00:28down
00:28below in the comments so on monday we had chicken kievs and you will have seen these if you watch
00:35my
00:35wee food shopping unbagging yesterday these were the chicken and ham kievs from sainsbury's i think
00:42they were from and these were absolutely delicious just an elevated version of your standard sort of
00:49butter filled chicken kievs and that's it there and underneath it got some lovely creamy mashed
00:55potato with butter and parsley in there and then some sweet corn on the side because i think
01:01sweet corn goes really nicely with any kind of chicken but especially this where there's a sauce
01:07involved because obviously when you cut through that chicken kiev there's cheese sauce and there's
01:11ham in there oh it's just amazing and then moving on to tuesday we had wee pies so yeah we
01:19had wee pies
01:19so that's the wee pie there that's a chicken vegetable and gravy pie absolutely delicious
01:25and it's puff pastry on the top and short crust pastry on the bottom so that's it there and then
01:31with that i made some air fryer potato wedges for me mr what's for t had chips i had garden
01:39peas he had
01:40baked beans he prefers baked beans you know anything with pastry he prefers baked beans so this is his one
01:47here and he's just got standard chips and baked beans on the side he'd have baked beans with
01:53everything and then moving on to wednesday we were actually away over to aaron for a couple of nights
01:59which is only about an hour and a bit away on the ferry and we ate in a place called
02:03the douglas
02:04hotel they've got a bar and a restaurant we ate in the bar both nights we were here just because
02:09a
02:09wee bit more laid back very informal it's the same menu so it doesn't really matter so here's a wee
02:14quick look at the menu for those that like to see the menu i had the hot honey chicken burger
02:20mr
02:20what's for t had the douglas mac and cheese because he loves macaroni cheese and this is it here just
02:27a wee view out the window and as you can see the ferry is right there in the corner so
02:32it's really
02:32close to the ferry terminal so fab really handy so this was mr what's for t's macaroni cheese which
02:39said was lovely with garlic bread and this was my hot honey chicken burger and i've been honest i
02:46couldn't really taste the hot honey but it was lovely nonetheless you know chicken burger lettuce
02:51coleslaw cheese and obviously the hot honey apparently on the brioche bun with some chips on the side i
02:59thoroughly enjoyed this not something i would normally order but i did want something when you know with
03:04chicken in it so i thought that was a good option and then moving on to thursday obviously we were
03:09still in aaron or on aaron so it was the douglas hotel bar again of course you know we've got
03:16to have
03:16the fish and chips so we both had the fish and chips i've had the fish and chips here many
03:21times
03:22and look at the size of this thing it's absolutely massive it was hanging off the side of the plate
03:29mr what's for t's wasn't quite as big as this but they were both massive so that's a haddock fillet
03:35with a batter chips mushy peas and some tartar sauce and a wedge of lemon on the side and this
03:42was
03:42beautifully fresh it just melted in your mouth and then moving on to friday we had cottage pie which i
03:50love this is one of my favorites i like anything with minced beef and gravy and potatoes or something like
03:57this is right up my alley and because i'm only cooking two portions of this now i'm tending to
04:03make this kind of thing and lasagnas and things in a loaf tin and you get a perfect two portion
04:09you
04:10know serving size so this was made in the loaf pan so that's my standard cottage pie we've got some
04:16broccoli and carrots on the side and as you can see it's piping hot but this was lovely like i
04:23said i
04:23love that then moving on to yesterday something a wee bit more simple so it was penny pasta and i
04:29made
04:29it a lovely creamy sort of cheesy garlicky chili sauce so it's penny pasta there's cream in there
04:36there's garlic what else red chili smoked paprika cayenne pepper parmesan cheese like i said the cream
04:43just to sort of make it into a sauce and we've got black pepper and a wee bit of parsley
04:48on there as
04:49well and we also had some garlic bread on the table and that was also really tasty then moving on
04:56to
04:56today we had beef casserole although i'm calling this a casserole this was done in the slow cooker so
05:01it's more of a stew but just for yeah it's a casserole a stew is there much difference probably not
05:07really
05:08so this is baby potatoes carrots beef onions swede peas and obviously the gravy as well and this is a
05:16meal
05:16all on its own so you're real you know you don't need any additional chips or potatoes or anything
05:22but there are potatoes in there already but it's up to you you could add more tatties if you like
05:27but
05:28we just had a couple of slices of crispy bread on the side so that was everything that we had
05:34this week
