A government fact-check has rebutted claims that the Election Commission of India deleted its 26 September press release regarding Form 6 modifications. Clarifying after social media posts alleged the note had been removed, the government confirmed the document remains publicly accessible on both the Press Information Bureau and Election Commission websites. The development follows clarifications from the Supreme Court regarding modifications to Form 6, while the poll body maintains such administrative adjustments fall within its procedural ambit.

00:00In fact, we've got more breaking news on that matter. Let me take you straight to that.
00:03We now have a government fact-check that has come over the CJP's deleted AC note claim.
00:10Now, the government has said that the press release dated 26 September 26 is available in the public domain
00:15and has not been taken down by the Election Commission of India.
00:17Now, the CJP had claimed earlier in a tweet that the EC had deleted the 26 September press release
00:25which claimed that EC had upheld the Form 16 order.
00:30So, a fact-check there coming in from the government that that EC order,
00:35the press release where they said that they did get a nod from the Supreme Court for modifications in Form
00:436.
00:44We are now being told that it is still there.
00:51Aishwarya Pariwal now joins us for more details on this story.
00:55Aishwarya Pariwal started with a tweet that came out from Ashutosh Ranka's handle
00:59and he said that it looks like, and there was a video attached to it
01:02which said that it looks like that the Election Commission has deleted that press release.
01:08The government is saying that it's still there.
01:10We've not independently checked it, so hard for us to say.
01:13But the government is saying that it is indeed still there.
01:16But on a day like this, give us an understanding of where a day like this
01:23where so much of embarrassment has come the way of the CEC
01:26in saying that they did not get the nod for modifications in Form 6.
01:31How exactly is the government coping up?
01:32How are they dealing with this entire situation?
01:35Well, you know, Sonal, let me tell you, we have independently verified the press note
01:39that, in fact, Ashutosh Ranka is speaking about is available not just on the PIB website
01:44but also on Election Commission's website.
01:47We have personally gone there and checked it.
01:49So it is present.
01:50But yes, there are some things, sort of clarification, further clarification rather
01:55that has come in from the Supreme Court side in which the Supreme Court said
01:58that the modification was something that they had not specifically agreed for.
02:03The Election Commission, however, Sonal, at the moment is maintaining
02:06that in the order that was given earlier by the Supreme Court of India,
02:09they had said that it is within the ambit of the Election Commission of India.
02:13If it wants to tweak something, then it can do so.
02:16So this is a battle which I think will be fought further in the Supreme Court.
02:20But yes, today is the day when further clarification is coming in,
02:23especially with regard to Form 6.
02:25And this is the exact same form, Sonal, if you remember about which
02:29both the Election Commissioners, Sandhu and Vivek Joshi, both of them,
02:33had written and said that there were administrative changes that were being made.
02:36But the government standing firmly behind the press release and saying
02:40that the press release, in fact, is available not just on PID
02:43but even on Election Commission's website.
02:45All right, Ashutosh.
02:46Thanks so much for coming in and making a clarification there on what exactly happened.
02:49But more updates coming in.
02:51Let's take you to that.
