A major political controversy erupted after the Supreme Court heard a public interest litigation regarding the Election Commission and issued a notice. The Bharatiya Janata Party targeted the opposition over claims of dictatorship in India, stating that the apex court's actions are part of standard judicial and democratic processes. The party maintained that issuing a notice ensures both sides are heard fairly and rejected opposition comparisons to authoritarian rule. BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra noted that debate, discussion, and judicial recourse reflect functioning democracy, countering claims of fear in the country. The discussion follows opposition demands concerning the Chief Election Commissioner.

00:00The big story that's making headlines this afternoon is the Supreme Court order over the CEC Rao
00:04and now that has led to a political war of words as well.
00:08Breaking news coming in that the BJP has targeted the opposition over the opposition's claims of dictatorship running in the
00:14country.
00:15BJP's spokesperson Sambit Patra, the man you see on the left of his screen,
00:18claims that the Supreme Court hearing on the ECPIL is only part of the judicial process.
00:24The BJP insists that the Supreme Court hearing a PIL and issuing a notice to the Election Commission
00:29is part of the standard judicial process and those who call India a dictatorship must answer.
00:36The BJP also claims that the Supreme Court notice to the other side ensures that both sides are heard fairly.
00:42The BJP has also questioned the claim of the opposition of Hitler's rule being applicable in India.
00:48Listen in to what Sambit Patra said.
01:17Supreme Court
01:20This is a process under the judiciary.
01:23To write a letter and ask a question on someone's request, and then with a debate and discussion,
01:31and then with a debate and discussion, and then with a debate and discussion,
01:35this is a democracy.
01:38Debate, discuss, and then you come to a decision.
01:43This is what is democracy.
01:45And after that, to go to the Supreme Court, and to issue the Supreme Court notice,
01:54this is a democracy.
01:56So, the people who said that there is a danger in the country,
02:01I think that today, two times before saying that there is a danger in the country.
02:08So, let's get into a word from my colleague, Piyush, who is joining us with more details.
02:12Because, Piyush, clearly the BJP trying to project it that the Supreme Court sending a notice to the election commission
02:20asking for details on all the contentious decisions taken by the poll panel during the controversial period is due process,
02:27and it should not be seen by the opposition as any sort of vindication.
02:31Well, that's right. One thing is clear that BJP is terming it a democratic process,
02:35and BJP is also of the view that all the institutions in this country are working democratically,
02:40freely, without having any kind of hold of what is being claimed by the opposition.
02:45Remember that a couple of minutes back, BJP's national spokesperson, Samit Parra, did a press conference when he highlighted
02:50that giving dissent in a meeting by two election commissioners was a democratic process, and that was followed.
02:56And after the issuing of notices and the kind of dissent points that were here by the election commissioners,
03:02that issue was reported, and the decision was taken only and only after debate and discussion
03:07which happened between all the election commissioners.
03:10And after that, now the Supreme Court is listening to this, and the Supreme Court is issuing a notice.
03:14It is also a part of the democratic process which is here in the country.
03:18So, one thing is clear that BJP is making it a, one thing is absolutely clear that no institution in
03:23this country
03:23is being controlled by the government.
03:25Alright, Piyush, thanks a lot for joining us with those details, but that has not stopped the opposition as we
03:30speak,
03:30because we are getting in more breaking news as we talk, Piyush.
03:34The opposition has mounted an attack over its CEC ouster demand.
