01:30end Amen Alleluia
01:40Psalm 78 pay attention my people to my instruction listen to the words I speak I
01:49will sing a song that imparts wisdom I will make insightful observations about the past what we have heard and
01:59learned that which our ancestors have told us we will not hide from their descendants we will tell the next
02:07generation about the Lord's praiseworthy acts about his strength and the amazing things he has done
02:14He has established a rule in Jacob he has set up a law in Israel he commanded our ancestors to
02:22make his deeds known to their descendants so that the next generation children yet to be born might know about
02:31them they will grow up until their descendants about them
02:37then they will place their confidence in god they will not forget the works of god and they
02:43will obey his commands then they will not be like their ancestors who were a stubborn and rebellious
02:50generation a generation that was not committed and faithful to god the ephraimites were armed
02:58with bows but they retreated in a day of battle they did not keep their covenant with god they
03:04refused to obey his law they forgot about what he had done the amazing things he had shown them
03:14he did amazing things in the sight of their ancestors in the land of egypt in the region of zoan
03:21he divided the sea and led them across it he made the waters stand in a heap he led them
03:29with a cloud
03:30by day and with the light of a fire all night long he broke open rocks in the wilderness and
03:37gave them
03:37enough water to fill the depths of the sea he caused streams to flow from the rock and made the
03:45waters
03:45flow like rivers yet they continued to sin against him and rebelled against the most high in the desert
03:55they willfully challenged god by asking for food to satisfy their appetite they insulted saying
04:04is god really able to give us food in the wilderness yes he struck a rock and water flowed out
04:13streams
04:13gushed forth but can he also give us food will he provide meat for his people
04:22when the lord heard this he was furious a fire broke out against jacob and his anger flared against
04:29israel because they did not have faith in god and did not trust his ability to deliver them
04:35he gave a command to the clouds above and opened the doors in the sky he rained down manna for
04:42them to eat
04:42he gave them the grain of heaven man ate the food of the mighty ones he sent them more than
04:50enough to eat
04:52he brought the east wind through the sky and by his strength led forth the south wind
04:57he rained down meat on them like dust birds as numerous as the sand on all the seashores
05:06he caused them to fall right in the middle of their camp all around their homes
05:12they ate until they were beyond full he gave them what they desired
05:18they were not yet filled up their food still in their mouths when the anger of god flared up against
05:24them
05:24he killed some of the strongest of them he brought the young men of israel to their knees
05:32despite all this they continued to sin and did not trust him to do amazing things
05:39so he caused them to die unsatisfied and filled with terror
05:44when he struck them down they sought his favor they turned back and longed for god
05:51they remembered that god was their protector and that god most high was their deliverer
05:57but they deceived him with their words and lied to him they were not really committed to him and they
06:05were unfaithful to his covenant
06:08yet he is compassionate he forgives sin and does not destroy
06:14he often holds back his anger and does not stir up his fury he remembered that they were made of
06:21flesh and were like a wind that blows past and does not return
06:26how often they rebelled against him in the wilderness and insulted him in the wastelands
06:34they again challenged god and offended the holy one of israel
06:38they did not remember what he had done how he had delivered them from the enemy when he performed his
06:45awesome deeds in egypt and his acts of judgment in the region of zoan
06:50he turned their rivers into blood and they could not drink from their streams
06:55he sent swarms of biting insects against them as well as frogs that overran their land
07:03he gave their crops to the grasshopper the fruit of their labor to the locust
07:10he destroyed their vines with hail and their sycamore fig trees with driving rain
07:16he ran down hail upon their cattle and hurled lightning bolts down on their livestock
07:24his raging anger lashed out against them
07:28he sent fury rage and trouble as messengers who bring disaster
07:34he sent his anger in full force
07:36he did not spare them from death
07:39he handed their lives over to destruction
07:43he struck down all the firstborn in egypt
07:47the first fruits of their reproductive power in the tents of ham
07:51and yet he brought out his people like sheep
07:55he led them through the wilderness like a flock
07:58he guided them safely along and they were not afraid
08:02but the sea covered their enemies
08:05he brought them to the border of his holy land
08:08to the mightyness land which his right hand acquired
08:14he drove the nations out from before them
08:16he assigned them their tribal allotments
08:19and allowed the tribes of israel to settle down
08:23yet they challenged and defied god most high
08:26and did not obey his commands
08:30they were unfaithful and acted as treacherously as their ancestors
08:34they were as unreliable as a malfunctioning bow
08:39they made him angry with their pagan shrines
08:43and made him jealous with their idols
08:47god heard and was angry
08:49he completely rejected israel
08:52he abandoned the sanctuary at shiloh
08:55the tent where he lived amongst men
08:58he allowed the symbol of his strong presence to be captured
09:02he gave the symbol of his splendor into the hand of the enemy
09:08he delivered his people over to the sword
09:10and was angry with his chosen nation
09:14fire consumed their young men
09:16and their virgins remained unmarried
09:19their priests fell by the sword
09:22but their widows did not weep
09:25but then the lord awoke from his sleep
09:28he was like a warrior in a drunken rage
09:31he drove his enemies back
09:33he made them a permanent target for insults
09:37he rejected the tent of joseph
09:39he did not choose the tribe of ephraim
09:42he chose the tribe of judah
09:45and mount zion which he loves
09:47he made his sanctuary as enduring as the heavens above
09:51as secure as the earth
09:53which he established permanently
09:57he chose david his servant
09:59and took him from the sheepfolds
10:01he took him away from following the mother sheep
10:04and made him the shepherd of jacob his people
10:07and of israel his chosen nation
10:11david cared for them with pure motives
10:14he led them with skill
