Josh McDaniels the difference when it comes to Drake Maye? #NFL Does McDaniels, Vrabel or the QB coach deserve most credit? Scheim: "Drake Maye is the head chef."
Transcript
00:00I don't think Chime could be more wrong about the McDaniels thing.
00:03To me, the difference in Drake May looks like he's more prepared.
00:08It looks like he's studied the right topic.
00:11Like last year, he was showing up at games, and he had all this ability,
00:16but it didn't look like he was prepared properly.
00:19It looked like he was processing everything as it was coming at him.
00:22And I think part of it's like development of a second-year quarterback,
00:25but part of it is being prepared properly.
00:28It's just a weird nitpicky thing from Chime or from Jones or whatever.
00:38It's not nitpicky.
00:39It is.
00:39It's like you have an extraordinary meal, like the best meal, appetizer, amuse-bouche,
00:48entree, dessert.
00:50The service is five-star service,
00:54and then you're complaining afterwards about the lighting in the restaurant
00:57or you're saying that the head chef didn't have much to do with it.
01:04It was mostly the Sioux.
01:06No, Drake May is the head chef.
01:08Oh, Drake May is the head chef.
01:10Yeah, of course.
01:11No, I don't get – and thank you, Randy.
01:14Go back, listen to Chime's lead.
01:16Like he's – you know, Josh McDaniels gets no credit for the development of Drake May.
01:22I didn't say zero, but like he doesn't get the most.
01:25Like I just – the head coach himself specifically brings up the quarterback coach
01:30when asked about Josh McDaniels every time.
01:32Because you want to give all the credit to Drake May.
01:34That's what you want to do.
01:35No, I don't.
01:36I literally – I said in my lead that Mike Vrabel deserves credit,
01:40Ashton Grant deserves credit, and then Josh McDaniels deserves credit.
01:43But don't you think that's just what Mike – I'm sorry – what Mike Vrabel was trying to do
01:47when he answered Curtis's question on Monday?
01:50Like Curtis brought up Josh McDaniels and Drake May and asked where the credit should go,
01:55and then he said, well, wait a minute.
01:57Ashton should also receive some of that credit.
02:00That's why I think – what?
02:02Yeah.
02:02What did I say?
02:03No, keep going.
02:04It's great.
02:05So in my mind, in my mind, I don't think that he was trying to slight Josh McDaniels.
02:10I think that he was saying, wait a minute, you missed a guy.
02:12Right.
02:13That nobody knew of.
02:14This is where the credit should be.
02:16But it's not the first time he's done that when asked about Josh McDaniels.
02:19Like it's – he's done it in press conferences.
02:22He's done it with us.
02:22Like it's – I just find it odd.
02:25Even when they – when Jones-A-Keefe talked to Tom E. Curran yesterday
02:28and asked Curran about that exchange on our show, like even Curran was like,
02:33like I can't help but raise my eyebrow a little bit.
02:35Like he's like – because he's called them crazy the entire time.
02:38But the more it happens, the more it seems like Vrabel is pumping up his guys
02:44and put it – not putting down, but not like – not nearly giving McDaniels the credit
02:49everybody thinks he deserves.
02:50So then – so I guess then to Shime's point, when you start to look at these things
02:56and these situations, then it has nothing to do with Kyle Shanahan.
