A former chief executive of UiTM Holdings has been charged with criminal breach of trust involving over RM37 million linked to a solar power project in Pahang.

Azlizan Fadzli, 53, pleaded not guilty in the Shah Alam Sessions Court on Thursday (Oct 1).

00:01A former Chief Executive Officer of UITM Holdings
00:05has been charged with criminal breach of trust involving more than RM37 million.
00:11Azlizan Fadzli, who was in a wheelchair,
00:14pleaded not guilty before Judge Muhammad Nasir Nordin on Thursday.
00:18The 53-year-old is accused of dishonestly misappropriating
00:25RM374,612.68,
00:29funds intended for a 50-megawatt large-scale solar photovoltaic project in Gambang, Pahang.
00:35The prosecution says he did so in his capacity as CEO,
00:40by authorising payments for unauthorised purposes.
00:43The alleged offence took place at Affin Bank's UITM Shah Alam branch
00:48at Menara Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah
00:50between February 2nd and October 2nd, 2017.
00:54The charge is under Section 409 of the Penal Code.
00:58If convicted, Azlizan faces between 2 and 20 years in jail,
01:03whipping and a fine.
01:05Deputy Public Prosecutor Law Chin Hao
01:08proposed bail of RM100,000 with one surety,
01:12citing the case's high-profile nature
01:14and that it involved substantial public funds
01:17and the reputation of UITM holdings.
01:20Defence counsel Hasyahari Johari Mawi, however,
01:24pleaded for a lower bail of RM20,000 with two sureties,
01:28saying his client is a stroke survivor
01:30with physical and cognitive impairment.
01:33He added that Azlizan's wife
01:35is currently supporting their seven children,
01:38aged 14 to 21,
01:39and that the accused had fully cooperated throughout investigations.
01:43The judge set bail at RM50,000 in two sureties.
01:48Azlizan must also surrender his passport,
01:51report to the MACC office every three months,
01:54and must not tamper with prosecution witnesses.
01:57The case will be mentioned on November 3rd.
