01:12With my partner Chris Singleton, I'm John Chauvin. Game one is always critical in a postseason series singing. Yeah, and
01:20this is when you love having home field advantage Boog. If you capture game one, you're full of confidence that
01:26you've got a chance to ride that momentum for the rest of the series.
01:29And on the visiting side, starting pitching is always the big key in a game like this to kick off
01:34a series. Yeah, you need a strong performance on the mound. That's the number one way to cancel out the
01:40home field edge. We just mentioned
01:43All right, we'll be back to get this one started after this
02:00Today's starting pitcher, Drew Rasmussen. What do you have on him, Singe?
02:04Very solid starters, able to repeat his mechanics on a consistent basis, which allows him to move through a lineup
02:11and get deep into a ballgame. About to get started here for game one. Trent Grisham stepping in now for
02:18the Yankees.
02:21And the series is underway. First pitch, 7-0-5. Hit hard, but foul off to the left.
02:37Swing and a ground ball. And foul ball. That wasn't an easy pitch to hit. It's much easier to do
02:44damage against mistakes, but that's not what that pitch was.

02:52As we take a look now at the New York Yankees lineup. This is a veteran-led lineup right here.
02:58A lot of players with plenty of experience, Singe.
03:01Yeah, no doubt about that, Boog. These players have been around the game for a long time, and they may
03:07not have the flash that they once did, but they've got the wisdom to be able to understand different situations,
03:13be able to think with the opponent, and sometimes in front of the opponent.
03:18And you only seem to see a team like this. They come to the ballpark, they know how to get
03:23down to business, and they understand what the job is at hand.
03:25The designated hitter, Giancarlo Stanton.
03:28Giancarlo Stanton to the plate now.
03:34Whacked out to center field. That's well struck. Way back there. Off the batter's eye and gone!
03:44A solo shot. The Yankees score first. It's one zip.
03:49You can't ask for a better start than hitting a home run in your first at bat to give your
03:53team the lead.
04:01Black Cutter low and away can be a really tough pitch. You have to stay within your mechanics and trust
04:07that you can get good wood to it.
04:09Well, he did right there. Really nice swing, and he was rewarded for it.
04:20Chisholm recently taking home player of the month honors.
04:25And a foul ball.
04:30I think it's huge that they were able to score right away.
04:33You're playing on the road, stakes are high, energy in the ballpark, and you help to quiet that down a
04:39little bit.

05:02How about a report on him, Chris?
05:04Well, I'm interested to see how he utilizes his sinker to this lineup move.
05:08You know, it's not necessarily his go-to primary pitch, but he does mix it in when he needs it.
05:12He's just got to make sure that it's not flat.
05:14Otherwise, it's going to get hit hard.
05:16So, look for him to throw it up there when he needs a big double play, a ground ball,
05:20something like that to get out of an inning, change it up for a hitter.
05:23Also, get those hitters looking down so that it opens up the top of the strike zone, especially late in
05:29and at bat.
05:34A sliding stop at short to first, and very nicely done for the out.
05:40Okay, let's check out the lineup.
05:42They're dealing with a top-level arm on the mound, so this figures to be a tough matchup for him.
05:47What's the key to the offense today, Singy?
05:49Well, Boog, against a talented pitcher, it's crucial to disrupt his rhythm.
05:54Use bunks to get him off the mound and move it around out there.
05:57If he's in a flow, step out and break his timing.
06:00When he throws in the zone, you might only get one pitch, so you don't want to miss it.
06:24He comes up empty as he chases that one in the dirt.
06:28Got him. Two gone after the strikeout.
06:38Two outs, space is empty.
06:40Jonathan Arunda, the next to hit.
06:45And that's a strike.
06:57That one lifted to left, Bellinger in and to his right.

07:20The strategy around starting pitchers in the postseason, it's really changed in recent years.
07:26Managers are pulling starters earlier, making a strong bullpen essential for a championship team.

07:36Yeah, I think with starting pitchers, they're not going as deep in the postseason because managers aren't willing to let
07:42them get knocked around and put a game out of reach.
07:44Most skippers have a quicker hook this time of the year.

11:10But all you can do is hope to foul that off.

35:42That's the key.
35:42You still have to extend through the baseball in order to hit a line drive like that.
35:50And first offering is fouled off.
35:53You know, these Yankees, simply put, are producing a lot of quality swings.
35:58They've hit seven line drives already, and even though some of them have been for outs,
36:02there's nothing wrong with delivering consistent, hard contact.
36:05That's almost always going to lead to positive results.

36:09Volpe flying around third and headed home.
36:12He'll score.

36:15Definitely found the perfect spot.
36:16Those can be hard sometimes.
36:17We talked about in left field.
36:19You're kind of anticipating cheating in for a ball hit something like that,
36:24that you can rob a little soft flare in front of you,
36:27but perfectly placed, so you reward the hitter with it.
36:30Now it's Trent Grisham to the plate.
36:32Hits two-run homer back in the third was an important swing of the bat in this one.
36:36Yeah, there's no doubt he helped set the tone fairly early,
36:39and certainly part of the reason why they've got the lead right now.
36:44And on the mound, they can't be feeling too comfortable either.
36:47With the way these guys are hitting the baseball,
36:49it makes it harder to come into the strike zone for fear of getting hit hard.

37:07That one is absolutely belted, and that should be extra bases.
