03:22As the countdown begins to the India Bloc meet that's expected to take place tomorrow,
03:27confirmation here on India Today that the DMK will not be attending the India Bloc meet in the national capital.
03:33There's been a lot of suspense considering the DMK Congress divorce in Tamrinaru
03:37or whether the DMK will continue to be a part of the India Bloc.
03:40Because they do still have a friendship, a relationship with other regional parties that are part of the India Bloc.
03:47But that's not the case. We can confirm for you that the DMK is not attending the India Bloc meet
03:53that's planned for tomorrow.
03:54The agenda may be the same of the DMK.
03:56But clearly they are hurt by the Congress ditching them and going with the TVK.
04:00And they're showing it by not attending the India Bloc meeting.
04:04Rahul Gautam joins us live from Delhi.
04:06Tracks the Congress for us.
04:07Pramod Madhav with this news break.
04:09Joining us from Chennai.
04:10Rahul, I'm bringing you in first to understand whether an invite was even extended by the Congress to the DMK.
04:16Because constantly in the last few months, we've heard statements from Congress leaders suggesting
04:21that all is well that the DMK is still part of the national India Bloc picture.
04:25That's clearly not the case.
04:28Well, Akshita, this time the entire exercise of bringing all parties together was, you know, initiated by Mamata Banerji and
04:36not Congress party.
04:37And therefore, what forces have informed us that an official invite was extended to DMK as well.
04:43And not just to DMK, but to other like-minded parties as well.
04:46For example, to Aam Adni party.
04:48But given the fact that we all know that how the relationship between DMK and Congress has gone sour after
04:57Congress party decided to go with TVK.
04:59And we all know that how DMK has officially broke ranks with the India Alliance when they, you know, insisted
05:06that their seating arrangement should be provided separately to them.
05:10And in fact, I must also tell this to our viewers that we asked this question, especially to KC Ben
05:15Gopal, that are you making any outreach to DMK or to other like-minded parties to bring them together?
05:21To which he said that all this we're going to discuss tomorrow in the India Bloc meeting.
05:27So as we speak, obviously, DMK will not be coming.
05:30In fact, some people in Congress tell us that DMK has made it very clear that they'll not be sharing
05:36any space or any dives with Congress going forward.
05:39So it seems that as far as DMK's concerned, the situation is absolutely clear that from going forward, they'll not
05:46be seen around, anywhere around with Congress party, at least after what happened in Tamil Nadu.
05:54Now, here's what's interesting.
05:55The DMK has issued multiple statements on the EEC in the last one week, including former Chief Minister Stalin himself,
06:01who's condemned the CEC.
06:03The demand is the same.
06:04They're saying the CEC must resign and that they've constantly maintained the same stand.
06:08That's what the DMK says.
06:09And yet a meet in which the same agenda, same narrative is being spoken of.
06:13The DMK has chosen not to be there.
06:15Pramod, explain to us why the DMK has decided not to be a part of this meeting.
06:19Because from what Rahul tells us, the invite didn't go from the Congress.
06:22It went from Mamata Banerjee from the TMC.
06:25And the DMK has no bad blood with her.
06:28Well, one thing is very certain, actually, that there are like multiple folds to this particular kind of development currently.
06:32And the one thing, it started back in May after the election results.
06:34And how Congress, we can clearly say, you know, Congress, in the way DMK believes, ditched DMK and joined TDK
06:41with the five MLAs, which they actually won when they were with the alliance that was led by DMK.
06:45So definitely still calling them as backstabbers at this point.
06:48So what is happening is that, like, on one side, DMK says that they are not at all interested to
06:52be in this indie bloc as long as Congress is going to play a major role in it.
06:56And the second part is also, Akshita, we had an earlier news break where Pani Muri apparently, we've been told
07:01our social state, that a kind of, like, attempt is being made for a probable third front.
07:05So DMK is also working on this particular matter.
07:07Just like you mentioned, DMK is steadfastly opposing SIR.
07:11MK Stalin very clearly said that the SIR was a kind of, it should not be done in that manner.
07:14MK Stalin, the president, warns the resignation of the chief election commissioner and such.
07:18But now it looks like DMK has decided that it is time for it to go ahead the national way.
07:24So it looks like they, you know, the party itself has decided to go ahead and create a new form
07:28of a front or so.
07:29So all of a sudden developing stage.
07:31But right now they have made it very clear, they still call Congress as backstabbers and that's the reason they
07:35have decided not to take part in this particular meeting, the program, Akshita.
07:42So just the bad blood with Congress, just the fact that Congress is part of that meeting is enough for
07:47the DMK to say we will have nothing to do with this.
07:49The invite may be from another leader.
07:51They may be planning their own third front in which regional players, regional blocs matter.
07:55But despite that, the DMK says where the Congress is, we will not be.

08:05But all eyes clearly are on the India bloc meeting that will take place tomorrow.
08:09And who attends, who doesn't?
08:11The DMK has confirmed they're not going to be a part of it.
08:13Parties like ARP 2 don't seem to be keen on attending.
08:17Remember that the Congress today held a CWC meet and the focus, the spotlight was on their demands as far
08:23as the CEC's resignation is concerned.
08:25And Rahul Gandhi reportedly has taken that a step further, not just the CEC's resignation, but also the prime minister's
08:31resignation, the home minister's resignation.
08:33That's what the Congress is going to push forward with.
08:36But yes, while the Congress puts forth these demands, the question is how much of pressure can the opposition really
08:42build up unless they come together as one voice against the government,
08:47which at this point, that test, the results of that will be revealed tomorrow.
09:12The political temperature over the Election Commission is rising.
09:16After revelations that two election commissioners raised 14 objections over matters related to SIR,
09:23the Congress, which has already taken voter deletions to the streets, now wants to take the fight further.
09:33The CWC met on Tuesday and passed a resolution saying,
09:38Vote Chori is organised by CEC Gyanesh Kumar on behalf of Prime Minister and Home Minister
09:43and nothing short of their resignation will ensure the safety of the Constitution.
09:47The party sought immediate resignation of CEC Gyanesh Kumar, immediate suspension of SIR
09:53and immediate restoration of 13.3 crore voters deleted from electoral rolls.
10:01Sources tell India today that Rahul Gandhi told the CWC the 2024 elections were fixed.
10:08The prime minister is shaken after protests and the Congress will work with the lies in its fight over SIR.
10:42The BJP has hit back.
11:09But the CWC meet is only the first act.
11:12On Wednesday, India block parties are set to meet to work out a joint strategy on the Election Commission and
11:19SIR Rao.
11:20Yet even before that meeting, there are signs of disorder within the opposition camp.
11:26SP Chief Akilesh Yadav is skipping the meet, citing prior political engagements
11:31while senior SP leaders are expected to attend in his place.
11:36Shif Sena, UBT and MNS will attend the meet virtually as they are holding their own demonstrations in Mumbai this
11:43week.
11:57The DMK has already distanced itself from the India block after Congress's post-poll alignment with Vijay's TVK in Tamil
12:05Nadu.
12:05So as Congress escalates its fight against the election commission,
12:10the bigger test may be whether the opposition can turn that anger into a united front.
12:16But the CWC has drawn the battle lines.
12:20Wednesday's India block meet will show how united that front really is.

12:28Okay, let's switch over to news from Tamil Nadu and the big controversy that's playing out right now
12:34over former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, AIADMK Chief, Edapadi Parniswami's comments against Chief Minister Vijay.
12:40We've constantly seen Chief Minister Vijay's personal life being dragged into the spotlight by the opposition.
12:46The latest on that list is EPS, who took a jibe at Chief Minister Vijay's image of being mama,
12:52Anna, uncle, brother, Tambi, younger brother to the people of Tamil Nadu.
12:58That's a projection the TVK has constantly made.
13:00It is over this that EPS has, in fact, attacked the TVK and attacked Chief Minister Vijay,
13:06saying someone who's not a family man himself, what will he understand about the love that a family shares,
13:12suggesting, essentially, and highlighting the fact that you've got the Chief Minister
13:16going through the divorce proceeding with his wife, Sangeeta.
13:19Highlighting his personal life, once again, EPS took this jibe, leading to a political showdown
13:24and a response also from the TVK.
13:27In fact, it wasn't just EPS, but you had DMDK Chief Premalata Vijay Kanta also mocking Vijay and Trisha,
13:35saying that their appearance together in UK at that race with superstar Ajit was disgusting.
13:41That's the word she used.
13:42Now, right after that, you had Adhavarjuna, the Tamil Nadu minister, responding to EPS,
13:48saying that AIA-DMK has lost his essence.
13:50It's nowhere close to what they represented when the AIA-DMK was under MGR or AMMA.
13:57Listen in to those reactions and what EPS said.
14:24Oh, thank you.
14:25You're heard, they said to me,
17:49She alleged that unemployed graduates were yet to receive the promised 4,000 rupees and claimed families in the state
17:56had also not received the six LPG cylinders promised by TVK.
18:01But that is not all.
18:33order in Tamil Nadu remains a serious issue. In just two days, nine murders took place in
18:38Chennai, a development that has raised alarm. With Anaga Keshav, Bureau Report, India Today.
18:47Moving on, as promised here on India Today, we're not taking the focus away from the Viramani
18:52Boxo case. Every update that's coming in, we're tracking closely as far as the investigation goes
18:58in this particular case and ensuring that the cover-up is exposed, is investigated fairly.
19:04Let's get you the latest updates that we've picked up. The two co-accused in this case, Shanti and
19:10Mahindra Sinha, who were essentially running that house for Viramani, allegedly supplying girls,
19:15minors for him as well. They're in custody and we've accessed the bail police. What have they said
19:21while arguing for bail? What has Shanti said? Shanti's argued that the case is primarily based on
19:27poor evidence, calling the pen drive poor evidence. She said that this was handed over by an
19:32unidentified person and so the complainant is neither the alleged victim nor an eyewitness.
19:37Her plea also claims that no child victim has been identified, examined or produced and that there's
19:43no medical examination or victim statement. Now, also another point that Shanti's raised in a bail
19:49plea is that there's been a huge delay in the investigation, suggesting that it's been more than
19:54six years referring to one incident, the alleged crime of 2019, saying after so many years,
20:00suddenly this case has come up. And so there's no direct allegation against her of sexual assault
20:06or of harassment. She's around 60 years old. So she's also raised a delay in her production before
20:12the magistrate is a ground for bail. This comes even as a second POXO case has been filed against
20:18Veeramani. And that's something the police are investigating. This complaint has been filed by
20:24the mother of an alleged assault victim. Now, the NCPCR, which is the National Commission for
20:31Protection of Child Rights, has also taken cognizance of all of the allegations. The
20:36Tamil Nadu police has, of course, formed an SIT, an all-woman SIT to probe the case. The DMK has
20:42also
20:43stepped in here with DMK MP TR Balu moving the Madras High Court, seeking an SIT questioning of
20:49Chief Minister Vijay and several ministers, essentially suggesting that the TV case should
20:54be in the dock over allegations they have made of the DMK protecting Veeramani.
21:00Okay, let's focus now on all of the protests, the politics over the proposed new secretariat in
21:07Chennai, in Patinampakkam, right by the Merida Beach and Foreshore Estate, and very, very close to
21:12Chief Minister Vijay's residents. Now, this has led to a big showdown as fisherfolk who live in that
21:17particular area are up in arms, raising issues, opposition to the plan to go ahead and build a
21:23new secretariat. Why are they against it? They're saying, one, that it will mean that they lose
21:27access to the sea, and that will therefore affect their livelihoods. Remember that the area we're also
21:32talking about is where their settlement is. So one of the biggest issues that the fisherfolk there
21:37raises, will our buildings, will our homes be targeted? Will we have to clear up our area to
21:42make way for the secretariat? And that's led to a protest. The TV case constantly said, this is a
21:48proposal. We're looking into what the fisherfolk have maintained. But the DMK and the AIADMK have also
21:53raised this issue, saying that the fisherfolk will be left stranded as a result of this Patinampakkam
21:59plan.
22:01My livelihood should be protected, and we strongly support them. And I contested from the same
22:08constituency in future. If this GEO is not withdrawn, definitely I also will go and participate
22:15in the protest.
22:16Even as the Tamil Nadu government has issued a GEO wherein it has proposed that a new secretariat
22:21will be built at Patinampakkam, constructed as a cost of its 1200 approach, the public of
22:28Patinampakkam are unhappy with this decision. In fact, protests are continuing on and across
22:33Patinampakkam. Today, the fishermen community have once again started protests here in Patinampakkam.
22:39Slogans that are demanding, is there any kind of justice to this kind of GEO that has been
22:47enforced? In fact, the fishermen community are questioning only one thing. Why is it that
22:52the Tamil Nadu government has taken up this particular land, the land in which they have been living
22:58generation after generation, affecting their livelihood by bringing in such a new GEO? In fact, the
23:05public of Patinampakkam have been protesting for quite some time now and several public today
23:12as well have taken up the protest, demanding if there is any justice and protesting, recalling
23:19for the GEO that has been issued by the Tamil Nadu government, saying that should this new
23:25secretariat be constructed, then it will go ahead and destroy the livelihood of the community
23:58South Africa.

24:09You've seen generations of politics
24:12in the sense that your family has been in politics.
24:14You've kind of grown up in that world.
24:16How would you define the politics of today in Kerala?
24:22Very good morning to all of you.
24:24First, let me take this opportunity that we are delighted
24:26that India Today's Conclave South is happening in Cochin,
24:32the queen of Arabian Sea.
24:34So, very, very delighted.
24:37Now, coming to your question,
24:39like how do you see the politics of today?
24:42Politics of today has transformed so much
24:45where the organizations or the politics
24:50which we have seen probably 20, 30, 40, 50 years ago
24:56that has transformed.
24:58Now, whether the transformation that has happened
25:01is not just about the politicians,
25:04the transformation has happened,
25:06how we look at politics,
25:08how media looks at politics,
25:11how the constitutional bodies look at their duties,
25:16how the independent organizations
25:19or those who are accountable,
25:22those who are supposed to abide by their constitutional role,
25:27how the degradation has happened.
25:29Now, all that are at the national level.
25:32But in Kerala, if I were to say,
25:35we are still clinging on to the very basic democracy,
25:41whether it is from grassroots,
25:43you look at very,
25:45if you look at political parties,
25:46you take any political parties,
25:48now Kerala, it is the Congress and the LDF.
25:53Predominantly, you look at the politics of today,
25:56we still maintain a very CADA-based,
26:00systematic, grassroot approach
26:02in terms of politics and organization is concerned.
26:05But to your answer,
26:07Kerala cannot be separated from India.
26:10So, India, if we look at it,
26:13we have reached a time,
26:16a defining moment in India's history,
26:19a time where it is for everybody to stand up and speak
26:24to protect the constitution of India.
26:27I think I would say,
26:28whether it is Kerala,
26:29whether it is Andhra Pradesh,
26:31whether it is Jarkand,
26:32whether it is Chattisgarh,
26:33whether it is Punjab,
26:34whether it is Kashmir,
26:35anywhere,
26:36India as such,
26:37if we look at it,
26:37the politics of today demands
26:39that we may be faced with many consequences,
26:43there may be threats,
26:45there may be a lot of inconvenient situations,
26:50but whatever it is,
26:52the primary aim of any politician
26:55who wants a good for the country
26:57should be to stand up and speak
26:59and protect the constitution,
27:01should be the idea.
27:02You found a common thread,
27:04a common theme there,
27:05where you've kind of bridged
27:06any differences that there is
27:08in politics between Kerala and Delhi.
27:10You are someone who sees
27:12what's happening in Kerala
27:13and then you also see
27:14what's happening in Delhi.
27:16Is it challenging
27:17to represent Kerala in Delhi?
27:19It so pulls apart.
27:21You found that common theme,
27:23but it is pulls apart
27:24in its politics,
27:25in its nature,
27:25in its very essence.
27:29whether it is Kerala,
27:31I am saying whether it is Malayali
27:34or whether it is any other state,
27:37if we genuinely believe
27:39in what we are supposed to be standing for,
27:43nothing stops us from saying that
27:45whether it is in Kerala
27:46or whether it is in Delhi.
27:47We would look up to anyone,
27:50we would look at anyone in their eyes
27:52and we will say,
27:53we will have the courage to say
27:55that you are wrong,
27:56what you are doing is not right.
27:59So you are saying
28:00that it doesn't matter?
28:01It doesn't matter because...
28:03Is it hard?
28:03Is my question.
28:04Is it hard to represent
28:06a state like Kerala
28:07that, you know,
28:08most politicians in Delhi
28:10don't understand much about?
28:11There is always that,
28:13you know,
28:13we keep using this term
28:14in India today,
28:15tyranny of distance.
28:16Do you sense that
28:17when you go to Delhi?
28:19I don't feel that at all.
28:20There is no tyranny of distance.
28:22There is tyranny of power
28:24that is happening in the country now.
28:26And with the tyranny of power,
28:28how can we get the country
28:31out of tyranny of power
28:32is what my concern is.
28:34There is no tyranny of distance.
28:35There is no tyranny of language.
28:38There is no tyranny of issues.
28:41The tyranny of power
28:42needs to be shown their way.
28:45You're a woman who's,
28:48you know,
28:48paved her way in politics.
28:51What's that like?
28:52You know,
28:52representation of women
28:53in politics is something
28:55everyone speaks of in parliament.
28:56It's a big,
28:57big talking point
28:58about reservation
28:59and the need to have
29:00more women representation
29:01in parliament.
29:03What is your one message
29:04to many others
29:05who may be seeking
29:06to enter politics,
29:07women in particular?
29:08Is it hard?
29:10Any,
29:11any field you take
29:13is hard.
29:14Any field you take
29:16depends on the seriousness
29:17you give to that field.
29:18But if you take
29:19any field very lightly,
29:21then it is lightly.
29:22But politics,
29:23you have to have that passion.
29:25You have to have the courage.
29:27You need to have that ability
29:29to face any and every challenge.
29:32But still,
29:33I think for women,
29:35women are known
29:35for multitasking.
29:37They manage their home.
29:38They manage their responsibilities
29:40at home.
29:41But they,
29:43when they are,
29:44I'm sorry
29:45for all the men
29:47sitting here
29:47about multitasking,
29:50I have to admit
29:51that it is the women.
29:52I'm sure the men
29:53will agree too.
29:54I'm sure the men
29:55will also agree.
29:56They would take
29:56the newspaper in hand.
29:58The first thing they do,
29:59they will conveniently
30:00sit and read
30:01whether women
30:02will be taking care
30:03of the children's breakfast
30:04and the lunch packed home

30:18municipal councillor background.

30:21is municipal councillor.
30:22I am very proud of that.
30:23I have contested
30:25municipal elections
30:26three times
30:26on a congress hand ticket.
30:28So,
30:29what I believe,
30:30see,
30:31if we are able
30:32to understand
30:32the concerns
30:33of the people
30:34at the grassroot,
30:35you can address
30:36the concerns
30:37at national level also.
30:39But,
30:40see,
30:40that level of
30:41whether it is
30:42you are a municipal councillor
30:44or I was a municipal
30:45vice chairperson
30:46and then I am
30:47Raj Sabha MP.
30:48It doesn't matter
30:50for a woman
30:51whether you are
30:52at the bottom level
30:53or the top level
30:54or the mid level.
30:55Your commitment,
30:57dedication
30:58and your decision
30:59taking capacity
31:00and more importantly
31:02the passion,
31:03the boldness,
31:04the courage,
31:04all these are the things
31:05that matters.
31:06I don't think
31:06we are in an age
31:07where should sit
31:08and discuss
31:08whether women
31:09should be
31:10or whether women
31:11can do.
31:12Look at the
31:13Asian Games
31:13gold medal,
31:14who has got
31:15more home
31:16it is the women
31:18you take
31:18and you take
31:19look at positions
31:20you look at positions
31:21everybody wants
31:23to discuss
31:23whether women
31:24should be given
31:24there is no discussion
31:26also hardly
31:26it is given
31:27but I am very fortunate
31:28congress party
31:29has sent me to
31:30Raj Sabha
31:31from a very
31:32grassroot
31:33political
31:33that is the basic
31:35anybody can have
31:36the grassroot
31:37in India
31:38as per the system
31:39and I am also
31:40from a organizational
31:41background
31:42where from the
31:43youth congress
31:44where I have
31:45climbed up the ladder
31:46from the block
31:47level to the state
31:48so it doesn't matter
31:49my message
31:50to all the women
31:51who wants to be
31:52interested in politics
31:53come jump in
31:54but be ready
31:55to face
31:56all the challenges
31:57with a smile
31:59I am glad

32:00and you have
32:01highlighted that
32:01you know
32:02women do it
32:03so much better

32:24by congress
32:25to women
32:25in this assembly
32:26election
32:27one
32:27during the
32:28Lok Sabha
32:30you hear a lot
32:31of the terms
32:31smash the patriarchy
32:33but is all of that
32:34just sloganeering
32:35is women
32:36representation
32:37a pipe dream
32:38and nothing more
32:39than that
32:39for every political
32:40party
32:40I am highlighting
32:41the congress
32:42because you would
32:43be in a place
