00:13Lions save the football weekend. It's all a matter of perspective. But yeah, locally
00:19here, it was the only team to win. So it was a fun Sunday and it was a beautiful weekend.
00:27So I know there's a lot of people that were probably listening to Dan Miller
00:31in Lomas, maybe not necessarily watching it because there were a lot of
00:36cider mills and farms that were absolutely packed yesterday.
00:41And everyone, we went to one earlier in the morning and nearly everyone
00:45was wearing their Lions gear. It was just, and I don't know if they were wearing it
00:50because they were going home to watch it. If they were eventually going to go down to the stadium,
00:53I don't care. There is still a great buzz around this team as there should be.
00:59They're two and one. And I would love to know what, what was your reaction,
01:03your instant reaction thinking about that game after the Chuck Clark forced fumble
01:10after they won. Yeah. After they won. I mean, it's okay. Yeah. You're we're all excited.
01:15I'm happy to win. They're two and one. They've been two and one, four straight years
01:18at this point. Big picture. Nothing changed. No. I, I, so things that I really liked about,
01:25I liked that Kelvin Shepard was able to dial up a blitz that worked when they had to get a
01:30stop
01:30because it's always, we've always talked about, okay, we need a Lee McNeil, Aiden Hutchinson,
01:35somebody to show up big in that moment. And they didn't have to in that moment because it was
01:42constructed to be successful. They confused the protection of the jets. They got home.
01:47They forced a fumble. Jack Campbell recovers it. And it's the end of the game. We,
01:52when was the last time we had a moment like that that just sealed a victory at the end of
01:56the game?
01:57A notable moment like that. Well, let's ask you how notable it is. So last year,
02:02the lions got a sack for Aiden Hutchinson to beat the other New York team at Ford field.
02:08Cause that's the one that kind of reminded me of, no, this didn't go to overtime,
02:10but we beat the other New York team. Gibbs was special. Yeah. Um, I, I think this was a better
02:17win than that. If we're comparing wins, I mean, we didn't give up three 66 to Jameis,
02:22but we gave another 300 yard game to Gino. It felt very similar. Yeah. But I mean,
02:26this is also what I was talking about when you said, Oh, well you always give up 300 to Gino.
02:30Well, they were down at the end of the game and they were throwing the ball a lot. And it
02:34was,
02:35I'm not going to lose my myself in that number. I see what you're saying, Jim, and tying the New
02:40York teams together. But to me, the giants game last year is the beginning of the end.
02:44Yeah. That I kind of feel like that as well. I'm going to make another comparison. It's how
02:48different is it than week one against the saints? It didn't go to OT, but they had the ball at
02:51the
02:52end to beat us. Right. They didn't have a play to win the game at the end. Right. You know,
02:55I think there are differences. I, I would say if you want to be glass half full that the difference
03:01between last year, it was the end. It was the sign that it was the end this year. It could
03:05be a sign
03:07of the beginning that the defense is starting to at least be okay. Right. So that, that was kind
03:13of my takeaway was like, there's nothing flashy about this win. I'll take a win any day of the
03:19week. And it's great that they're two on one. And I want to celebrate the five sacks. I want to
03:24celebrate the turnover at the end. I want to celebrate how great Jameer Gibbs is. And sneakily
03:29you're watching Jared Goff have a, maybe the start to what could be his best season,
03:35maybe not statistically, but his best season in terms of turnovers, in terms of consistency of
03:41play. Like there's a lot of really nice things to be able to take away. Um, but I think you're
03:46right. This could be the start of defensively Calvin Shepard making some adjustments that work
03:53for this roster. Hear me out when I say this and I kind of talked about it last week. The
03:59best
03:59case scenario right now for this defense is to become a bend, don't break defense. And really
04:03what that is, is the 23 defense. I don't see it having a chance to be any better than that.
04:08Unless they acquire somebody. So you, are you with me that if this is a step towards getting there,
04:13there's a little bit of progress with the sacks creating the turnover at the end. Real quick.
04:18How many sacks did they have week one? Top of my head. I don't know. It was five. Yeah,
04:22I think it was five. Yeah. Okay. So again, just like week one, they blew a multi touchdown
04:26lead in the second half. They did force five sacks. I'm not sure that anything really changed.
04:33Well, you know, it did change is Garrett Wilson got hurt. Brees Hall got hurt. They missed their
04:37left guard. Like, okay. Yeah. You, you found a way to win the game. I'm glad they won beyond
04:41that. I don't know what you want for me, man. You're a buzzkill. You guys can celebrate right
04:50now. Would you rather be Michigan football this morning? Tom? I said, I'm glad they won.
04:53I'll sit this out. If everybody wants to call in and celebrate the win two, four, eight,
04:57five, three, nine, 97, 97. No, it's, it's, there's no wow factor to this team through three
05:03games. There's just not a wow factor. Jameer Gibbs is really good, but we knew that coming
05:07in. He didn't have a quote unquote explosive play yesterday, but you look at some of the
05:13best runs that he had and you would say those are impressive and explosive, even though his
05:18longest run was only 17 yards, his touchdown run, the one where he did the Barry move.
05:23Oh yeah. I would say right now, offensively, I, I think you're wasting your breath. This
05:28offense is good enough to win in this league period. End of story. And the explosives are
05:33coming once everything and get more people involved. Nice play by to Sly yesterday. That's
05:37an encouraging thing. It's all about the defense. It's so simple to me. Can they get good
05:44enough with, can the front seven be good enough to mask the secondary? Will
05:50Burchfield said yesterday on the post game with Stoney said, this team is not contending
05:55for a Superbowl unless they acquire somebody. Yeah. Look, I can spotlight one. I'm getting
05:59two sacks. I actually thought of Lee McNeil, the guy I've hinged a lot of their hopes on played
06:04his best game of the season. You know, it's not just the big second down play that he blew
06:09up, up the middle, but I also feel like he set one. I'm up for the sack on the very
06:12next
06:12play because he continued to win his matchup. I have no issue spotlighting some individual
06:16performances. Like I said, Gibbs, Wanham, McNeil, even Raikstra had a couple pass breakups.
06:22Yeah. It was great to see him in uniform. Great to see him play. I have no issue. Like
06:25let's talk about the game and some things that went well and why they won the game. Just
06:28big picture. It didn't feel all that different to me. What felt different to me was, and I know
06:35Brees had a couple of runs and, but they only allowed 58 yards rushing. Like that's
06:43a good performance. Yeah. That's what they wanted to. It's what they said. They wanted
06:47to be on defense's team. It stops the run and also stopped the run in week one. They
06:51held a hand of 46 yards. So that's why I say it's just very similar to what I saw in
06:56week one. Okay. Well, it's a good win. It's a win. Okay. If your definition is all wins
07:04are good wins and yes, it's a good win. Yes. I mean, all wins are good wins and all losses
07:09are bad. It's just, it's, it's very black and white. I mean, we, we interpret things
07:15for four hours a day. If wins are all good and losses are all bad, then, then fine. But
07:19it was okay. Yeah. It was, you come out of that feeling, man, but the performances that
07:28we're seeing in regards to offensively, like Jared Goff, very consistent, very steady. And I
07:33think that is, that is huge. If we don't have that one game or two games or whatever
07:40it is. Now you could look at the Buffalo game and say, well, maybe they didn't do
07:43enough. And, and here's where I, I, I want to nitpick the offense is you haven't scored
07:49on the opening drive. Slow starts, slow starts. You have only scored seven points in the first
07:54quarter, but you've still scored 31 points per game. Exactly. 31 points per game.
07:59Dink, consistent. They are the definition of consistency. We'll write them in for 31
08:05on Sunday night against the Panthers. Consistency is the truest measure of performance. And you
08:09know what? 31 should be good enough to win most weeks in the NFL. I agree. And they should
08:12win most of their games this season. I've not wavered from that. Right. And I don't think
08:16anybody, so I guess maybe you were hoping to come out of this as taking a step forward
08:21to, oh, well, maybe we were wrong. Maybe this is a team that could compete for the Super
08:27Bowl. You know what it is? How about, no, you can't prove that against the Jets to be
08:29fair, but when they got up two scores, they had some chances to end the game. A third and
08:3417. Can I, I don't think I'm asking too much. Please, please don't commit pass interference.
08:40Get off the field. A fourth and six, get off the field. How about a fourth down at midfield?
08:45I have no issue going for it. Put them away. Yes. That's what I wanted to see. That would
08:49have been a little more of a, Hey, things are trending in the right. Put them away. I got to

08:56that Garrett Wilson gets hurt and they miss a block on a blitz because the backup running
09:00backs in the game. Like I just, you're up two touchdowns at home in the second half. Just
09:05put them away. Oh, well, I, I mean, you could argue that four play 65 yards after the Jets
09:13tied it up. Okay. Not great that they tied it up, but they go down and it's uncontested
09:18basically through the entire drive. Boom, boom, boom. They put the ball in the end zone.
