00:00:21So with the help of Kobe and Moki, we spent the next four months trying to bring them out of

00:01:24if we could get her outside, she'd have time to explore and decompress before meeting them.

00:14:00Okay, so, Meddy's clearly found her little place to decompress.

00:16:00We absolutely housed our food down, but kept checking on Muffin like new anxious parents.
00:16:05And once we finished our dinner, it was time for the dog's dinner.
00:16:08So we're going to get their food ready and figure out how to feed Muffin.
00:16:13I'm actually going to go and feed Muffin now because if she does eat, she's the one that's
00:16:21going to take the longest.
00:16:22We're only giving her a little bit because firstly, she's fat as anything, bless her.
00:16:27And secondly, she's probably going to have a bit of an upset stomach since the journey.
00:16:31So Muffin spent the past two days in the back of a van coming from Macedonia.
00:16:35Although the drivers are so good with the dogs, I'm sure it was a pretty terrifying experience
00:16:40for her.
00:16:41So we'll leave that, see if she eats it.
00:16:44If she is food motivated, this is going to make it a lot easier.
00:16:48It actually looks like she's going to eat it whilst I'm standing here, which is really
00:16:52good.
00:16:53Okay, I'm going to go inside because I think she's a bit intimidated that I'm looking at
00:16:58her, but it does look like there's a chance she's going to eat.

00:17:21Plan is to leave Muffin about another hour out there.
00:17:24And then we're going to have to figure out how to get that dog in.

00:17:29So I went outside, collected her bowl, let all the other dogs out with her.
00:17:33And then it's time to start stage one of getting Muffin inside.

00:17:38We have a plan to get Mehdi in.
00:17:40Step one is to pick up all the dog poo.

00:17:45Part two is attempting to put a harness on her.
00:17:49The problem is, is obviously, firstly, she's like hunkered herself down.
00:17:52Secondly, we can't actually get like the size and measurements of her.
00:17:56We've just had to guess, but we'll show you in a little bit why we're going to try and
00:17:59put a harness on her.
00:18:01Getting this harness on her isn't going to be easy, but let's give it a go.
00:18:04So whilst Ella tries a million different ways to get her harness on, why is Muffin so scared
00:18:09and shut down?
00:18:09Happy Shelter rescued her from a shelter who was pocketing all their donations in Macedonia.
00:18:15The dogs had to fight for scraps of food and even water.
00:18:18And at only five years old, Muffin has lived a really tough life.
00:18:22She keeps doing appeasement looks, the poor thing.
00:18:24Okay, Ella has nearly managed to fix the harness.
00:18:28Well, she's been going at it for about 10 minutes, but it's nearly done.
00:18:31I think the best idea is to connect a lead to that harness and then hopefully that's
00:18:36able to bring her in.
00:18:37I hate dragging her around on the slip lead, so I'm really hoping this harness works.
00:18:42So before we attach a lead, I thought, let me try and pick her up by the harness and

00:24:36And the idea is to try and get this onto Muffin so that we can attach a lead and bring
00:24:40her inside.

00:24:46We've got a nice new harness for you.
00:24:48Taking off her current harness was quite easy.
00:24:51Unclipping both sides and very gently removing it from her head.
00:24:54But putting on the new harness, that wasn't so easy.
00:24:57We managed to get Muffin away from the bush and we could gently lift her head to get it through.
00:25:02Ella somehow managed to then get the harness under her and clip it on.
00:25:05So we did it.
00:25:06And once we left, she showed some good signs of rebounding from a scary experience for her.

00:25:14She actually just came to the door.

00:26:06So, the first thing we are going to do is simply train Muffin eye contact.
00:26:11The reason why is because that's always what makes it easiest to train them when they stare at you.
00:26:17So first, I'm just going to see if she'll take a treat.

00:26:23I quickly realised I'm making training harder for her because she needs to turn her head.

00:28:35The vet got her walking a little, prescribed pain medication, and made it clear she needs
00:28:40to walk to rebuild strength in her back legs.
00:28:42We didn't know how we'd get her there until we saw something shift.

00:29:54after our training session we took the dogs out for a walk and then we noticed something
00:29:58my feelings like she wants to come but the problem is is look if you try and get close to

00:30:02a lead on her she does that but i know she wants to come outside the next time we went
00:30:08out we pre-empted
00:30:09she'd do this so we had a lead on her and we were going to try and take her outside

00:30:14time i think i need to go out because she's scared yeah probably but muffin went back to her corner
00:30:21she got a bit scared right so we missed it but muffin has actually come outside she's obviously
00:30:27gotten a little bit scared so we have got kobe and mochi here to just give her a bit of
00:30:32additional
00:30:32support we'll let her obviously like sniff the air and everything and see if she wants to move but
00:30:37she has made it well done muffin okay she's moved slightly we're literally just gonna let her take
00:30:42everything in i'm gonna come like behind her so that she's not scared good girl muffin girl
00:30:49you gone shy she kind of like very erratically sort of ran outside and hunkered down as soon as she
00:30:55got out i went flying huh i went flying yeah yeah ella had her lead not with my slides
00:31:01so muffin did make it outside but clearly not ready to actually go walking just yet
00:31:06we brought her back in and gave her loads of encouragement she did really good
00:31:13so that was a lot guys but i think i did well i'm such a brave girl we wanted to
00:31:19make sure muffin
00:31:19was as comfortable as possible ours so we got her a new bed and her reaction was absolutely adorable
00:31:25we thought it would be nice for her to have an actual bed as opposed to like this little
00:31:29floor thing that she's got oh i'm not sure she's gonna fit on that she's fat as anything oh my
00:31:35god
00:31:35she's gonna absolutely love that we ended up giving her her first chill on it and just look
00:31:41how happy she looks we wanted to make sure we kept the bonding momentum going with ella and muffin
00:31:46and ella was really on it me and muffin have been hanging out quite a lot in this conservatory
00:31:50because she loves being in your presence and just hanging out she doesn't necessarily want fuss
00:31:56all the time i mean she does like attention but she also just likes quality time as you can see
00:32:03she's very comfortable in her chair look at her she is a lady of pleasure hi i'm sitting on the
00:32:14camera so i can show everyone how much you're a love bug and then muffin did the unthinkable
00:32:19and actually came upstairs come on then come on muffin so i'm doing so bro come on muffin
00:32:25because the stairs might cave in if you stay on up too long muffin hello muffins progressing really
00:32:33well but we knew that she needed some training to get used to having a lead on her to go
00:32:37outside
00:32:37so we brought in our professional dog trainer dillnaz to work with her so any nose sniffing
00:32:44yeah any looking at the lead anything like that we mark and reward her for it dillnaz is teaching
00:32:50us how to get muffin to associate the lead with something positive she repeated this until she
00:32:56was able to actually clip the lead onto muffin's collar it doesn't help that i've changed my position
00:33:00yes good girl question is will she take a treat wow yes she did because that's a good way of
00:33:09checking
00:33:09her stress level yeah see if they'll take a treat muffin did absolutely amazing and she's really
00:33:15starting to become ella's best friend just look at how comfortable she is with her we're still yet to
00:33:21walk muffin but we're training with her every day and we won't give up on her we're going to come

00:33:27to what happened to muffin and where she is now at the end of the video she's an older girl

00:33:32was absolutely terrified but somehow seeing that same fear in a puppy hits even harder oh she's
00:33:39terrified she's shaking a bit when you think of a golden retriever puppy this is probably the last
00:33:47thing you'd imagine lola should be bouncing around causing chaos but instead she's terrified and honestly
00:33:53i'm still trying to figure out why she's clearly lacking a lot of confidence and trust but don't
00:33:59worry because there's hope we've got an entire pack of other dogs myself and ella and you guys
00:34:05together we can all help lola but if she's this scared of us how is she going to cope with

00:43:37she's had a sniff instantly she's like oh that's not the same dog all right there we go kobe come

00:43:57kobe isn't actually a massive fan of puppies and i think he was a bit thrown off because he was
00:44:02expecting puppy energy to be honest i feel like we all were this poor thing really is scared and timid

00:44:20and her owners were heartbroken to let her go now it's our mission to help her become the happy

00:47:22about puppies and it's quite hot today this is really important for lola creating a calm safe
00:47:27environment for her she will eventually realize she can be a true puppy here and our pack got
00:47:33straight into doing their thing by forming like an emotional support circle around her it was
00:47:38absolutely adorable good girl oh look at mochi oh that is adorable well done mochi do you know what's
00:47:48gonna be interesting obviously mochi was a puppy when she was with kobe but now she's got a puppy

00:48:02i'm not built for dad life mochi's like i'll be the mum good girl so what's interesting is mochi never
00:48:12likes dogs laying near her like when she first meets them oh my god even francis has gone down it's

00:48:43surprised us we thought she'd be like super overbearing really overwhelming but it looks
00:48:49like she's actually looking to mother her cookie's a super confident pup so we're hoping she takes lola
00:48:55under her wing she was like lay with me oh my god cookie absolutely loved her did you just see

00:49:06yeah she loves her they both laid on their sides we didn't catch it because it was literally only for
00:49:11a second but they both laid on their sides and they touched and cookie was like having a little
00:49:16sniff of her cookies really surprised me she loves her doesn't she i think i don't know if she's
00:49:21mothering her but i just think she really wants to connect with yeah i don't think she'd mother her
00:49:26because she's she's a puppy herself it's like it's like she can see a vulnerable young pup
00:49:33and she's like that was me once upon a time she can tell she's scared i think yeah same
00:49:38look maybe she is mothering her you know maybe cookie and lola could become best friends over the
00:49:43next couple weeks you never know but now it's time for the dog's dinner and when we feed lola
00:49:48you really see how much she struggles with her confidence all right everyone's food is prepared

00:50:33she's still really scared still sort of like integrating into the pack but to see a puppy kind
00:50:39of like this you think she'd be bouncing off the walls so francis really wants to play with cookie and
00:50:45we're hoping lola watching all of this um will help her gain more confidence oh she's looking at me
00:50:56look at them so i currently have lola on my lap just to give her some pets to make her

00:51:03better and i'm gonna put her down and i think when i put her down you guys will see how

00:51:31she's also pretty scared around kobe which makes sense her dad wasn't getting on with her so i think

00:51:51it's just before bedtime so we obviously want to put all of the dogs out and i thought i'd come

00:51:58with lola to see if she would go to the toilet she is apparently crate trained so we're gonna put

00:53:44she didn't so we tried covering her crate with a breathable blanket to get rid of any stimulation
00:53:50this didn't work either at one point i think some of the other dogs started joining in it was like

00:54:14moved her crate next to francis hoping he would politely tell her to stop crying i'm so sorry for

00:56:40yesterday she was pretty much frozen in one spot but today she's finally starting to move around
00:56:47she's still got a long way to go though she needs to build her confidence so we've put together this
00:56:52checklist and by the end of the video our goal is to tick off every single one
00:56:57come on monkey come on man i brought kobe and mochi back in and just look how excited she is

00:57:04them and how much confidence she gets from other dogs

00:57:15she doesn't understand the pack dynamics yet she looks like she's exploring a little bit more which is

00:57:38so i'm getting their food ready and this is the perfect time to tick off our first goal
00:57:43crate training so we tried putting her to sleep in a crate last night and this is how that went
00:57:52not so good so i'm going to put her breakfast in a crate to associate positive things with it
00:57:57all the other dogs are in i'm being fed francis is there kobe and mochi are outside so now it's

00:58:05for you lola and you come on lola i'm gonna have it in your crate come on come on all
00:58:14right she didn't
00:58:16want to go in so i put her in she seemed pretty scared at first but once i put the
00:58:20bowl at the
00:58:21front so she could see she seems pretty happy in there okay that's the morning done lola is outside
00:58:28after they have all eaten she seems to be going out and about with the pack a bit more which
00:58:33is really
00:58:34good she's not frozen in one place like yesterday so i think she's starting to trust them and you
00:58:39can see her tail still quite tucked but then we noticed something she seems to start bonding with
00:58:44one dog i said lola's definitely starting to cling on to cookie i think probably because it's kind of
00:58:49the only dog that likes her at the moment i then put toys down for the first time you always
00:58:55have to
00:58:55be careful putting toys down with so many dogs because some can resource guard so let's see how this goes
00:59:02there she goes i don't know why there's nothing cuter than a puppy playing with her toy
00:59:08cookie's gonna come and have a look okay i need to monitor cookie because i don't know what she's
00:59:13like with toys yet so we can keep an eye on her here we go cookie's got a toy time

00:59:20share it looks like she does oh that's adorable oh mokey told her off the dogs especially mokey
00:59:30francis wherever you're serious and kobe are absolutely knackered today i think because this
00:59:38one was crying until midnight the older dogs are so tired i cannot believe i've just called mokey the older
00:59:43dog i mean she's only three but ten months four months he's five kobe's six or seven so crate training
00:59:53continues for lola we gave her lunch and we'll put her in there for naps it's important to crate train
00:59:59her so that she doesn't show anything dangerous at night but also to teach her how to settle puppies can
01:00:05get overtired and non-stop wonder but they need their rest and lola did actually manage to settle so
01:00:11hopefully tonight is smoother than last night and we have a plan okay the next night we have put
01:00:18lola next to cookie cookie has become her best friend we put some treats in their crates
01:00:24we've moved francis to here so let's see how she gets on tonight fingers crossed not a single sound
01:00:33from her looks like we can tick off our first goal and the next day lola and cookie really started

01:00:48that is absolutely adorable i think it's really nice for lola to have a friend obviously after

01:01:04is really starting to come out now she's beginning to act like a normal puppy lola lola no you're

01:01:29look at them we really want to keep this momentum going so it's time to begin confidence training
01:01:36with her the first thing we're doing is called free work we've scattered a bunch of everyday objects
01:01:41around the floor then hidden treats in and around them to get the rewards lola has to use her nose
01:01:47explore and figure things out for herself that's important because every little success helps her
01:01:54build confidence instead of us asking her to do something she's not ready for she's making her own
01:02:00choices discovering that new things aren't so scary and learning that the world can actually be a fun
01:02:05place to explore she did really well there were a few setbacks where she'd get a bit scared of a
01:02:18noise something made so we decided to move on to our next confidence building game noise box so the
01:02:25first thing we did was simply put treats in a box we wanted to start off really easy for her
01:02:30even having
01:02:31to sniff around with the box making noise is going to be a big deal for her her back yeah
01:02:37see how the
01:02:39noise gets like speed and see how she's leaning forward as well that's because she's cautious good
01:02:45girl well done good girl then we put in some paper now this is basically a snuffle mat for her
01:02:54and she's
01:02:55got to really submerge her head in the box and move around this loud paper to get the treats the
01:03:00idea here
01:03:00is to show her that when something makes a noise and scares her nothing bad actually happens she's
01:03:06nowhere near as jumpy now to the noises yeah she'll move the box down yeah she's starting to get
01:03:13confidence now she's leaning forward a bit there yeah she's starting to get more confident
01:03:24she did really well but to progress this sometimes pairing them up with a more confident dog can really
01:03:30help so let's bring in her best friend cookie and see if it makes a difference all right come on

01:03:54look her head is fully submerged in it now what a difference she looks so much more confident
01:04:00when lola eventually goes to her forever home we really need to try our best to get these two
01:04:05adopted together we can now happily tick off build confidence and if these two were to get adopted
01:04:13together we want to make sure neither of them have food aggression when there's high reward treats around
01:04:17so let's test them and see how they do so we have both of them high reward licky mats and
01:04:25we're going to
01:04:26set up a gate between them put both licky mats next to each other and see if there's any aggressive
01:04:31behavior towards the other okay so what i want to see is cookie sometimes will like walk off and i
01:04:43just want to see if there's any browse or anything because when she walks off like that i'm not sure
01:04:50how much
01:04:50lola likes it she doesn't seem to mind now cookie didn't really care about the lick mat but lola was
01:04:57doing really well with her wandering around so now we're going to open up the gate and i'm going to
01:05:02be on standby just in case anything goes wrong good start but what's going to happen when the dogs start
01:05:10moving around each other's food
01:05:20okay so absolutely no food aggression food test with cookie complete we're about to take all five
01:05:27dogs we have to a private field it's going to be so much fun but before that i need to

01:05:33on their adoption so we have put up cookie and lola together because obviously hopefully we can get
01:05:43them adopted out it is really hard to try and get two dogs adopted together and we've been struggling so
01:05:49we're gonna keep them up for a few more days and hopefully somebody comes in for the both of them
01:05:56because they are like two peas in a pod but if they don't we will make sure that lola when
01:06:01she does get
01:06:02adopted definitely goes with another dog and the same with cookie if she does get adopted she
01:06:06they both need to go with dogs but hopefully they can go together let's see stick around to see if

01:09:21with cookie these two are literally best friends i mean look how patient cookie is with her
01:09:27but to be honest cookie just loves her so we knew from the first day that these two were probably
01:09:32going to be best friends and it's absolutely adorable just watching them play sorry for the
01:09:37beeping my breakfast is ready she arrived to us as this super scared puppy who had lost all confidence
01:09:44and she's now a completely different dog it's been a pretty amazing transformation but now we need
01:09:50to wash both lola and cookie so they're ready for their meet and greet it is a really hot day

01:09:59so we're going to wash cookie and lola together we've kind of like sectioned off this little area here
01:10:06so that basically we're hoping they kind of become like each other's emotional support
01:10:10whilst they are getting washed good girl we're gonna start by taking

01:13:21we eagerly awaited a message from them lola and cookie continued their amazing friendship
01:13:26until we finally got the message they said hi we absolutely love cookie and lola and we'd be delighted to
01:13:34give them a home with us we did it i can't believe we actually managed to find a home for

01:13:39them we had the dogs for about another five days until the day finally came adoption day we have a
01:13:47whole bag of goodies so there's a long line i've done a bag of kibble i've done two like that
01:13:54all of
01:13:55their info i've done chews for each dog so they are well stocked up with a goodie bag all the
01:14:02dogs had their
01:14:03final play ella put their harnesses on them and they are so happy to be reunited with their new
01:14:09forever family so it's been a month since lola and cookie got adopted together lola's name has now
01:14:15changed to coco coco and cookie sound adorable together their new owners said it's lovely having
01:14:22them together coco keeps cookie calm and cookie makes coco feel more secure we've noticed they tend to lie
01:14:29down in the same positions next to each other it's such a happy ending for these two and look coco
01:14:34is
01:14:35now bigger than cookie but what happened to muffin well muffin had a meeting group with one of the most
01:14:42lovely couples they had another dog and adopted her they've had muffin for a couple months now and i'm
01:14:48happy to report she's getting on amazing with them she's now been renamed to maple and she's best
01:14:54friends with their dog she's really come out her shell now and she's even walking her owners said
01:15:00she's a completely different dog and it's so nice to see her out of her shell so many zoomies and
01:15:06excitement when i come home running with her at the park on a long lead loves the car and she's

01:15:12easy to train she's so cheeky but yet still the calm precious thing that loves cuddles and sleeping
