00:00Tons of sand have been pumped into these beaches over the summer to try and beef up the shoreline to
00:05be prepared for storms just like this.
00:08But we're already seeing parts of that nearly $20 million investment to replenish this beach being washed away.
00:15Now you can check out the view from the video and up above there are now three to four foot
00:20drop offs along parts of this beach.
00:22Jetties and pipes that were under several feet of sand just 24 and 48 hours ago.
00:27They're all now exposed. Locals and tourists are not the only ones who are out here snapping photos of the
00:32erosion.
00:33Adriana Palmer's photography class was out here a short time ago.
00:37Their assignment today, get out of the classroom and document the waves and the state of this beach.
00:43Today's lesson was planned long before there was a nor'easter in the forecast.
00:48I think it's great to get them out of, this is the first year when we are not using cell
00:53phones at school.
00:54They are not allowed to use them for the change.
00:57They are so excited to actually get out and be here.
01:00It's an opportunity to have great waves.
01:03So this assignment is specifically because of this.
01:07So right now at this moment, because the waves are just amazing, the wind is howling, I mean, you have
01:12the surfers.
01:13What a great opportunity.
01:17These Ocean City High School students are documenting history and what could end up being a very costly storm.
01:24Now, coastal New Jersey communities and counties, of course, are under states of emergency.
01:29And officials have been urging people in this area, take this storm seriously.
01:34Keep your cell phone charged, be prepared for power outages, and, of course, to move parked cars out of areas
01:41that are prone to coastal flooding.
01:43Because we know salt water can create a lot of problems and headaches.
