00:00AccuWeather correspondent Leslie Hudson is joining us now from Norfolk, Virginia with why conditions may worsen through tomorrow. Leslie?
00:12Yeah, you know, that really is the selling point, if you can, if you will, of this whole story here
00:18in the Hampton Roads, Norfolk area,
00:20is the fact that the inundation, the flooding, the tidal flooding, really has been the main event here in this
00:27area since yesterday.
00:28And, of course, we're still anticipating another day, day and a half of this tidal flooding to really play out
00:35across the low-lying areas.
00:37Now, is it flooding in every single street in Norfolk? No.
00:40But the localized flooding is pretty prevalent.
00:43A lot of spots are flooded and you can't get through with low-profile vehicles.
00:48We've seen car after car attempt that.
00:50I do have my handy-dandy little yard ruler down here, and we're holding out about nine inches of standing
00:58water where I am.
00:59Of course, it's much deeper.
01:01Andy Coates, who's with me here, was over my shoulder in that parking lot, and it was up to almost
01:07his hip.
01:07So it is a vast difference by just a few feet of how much that standing water can become.
01:13We've seen people try to, of course, cross the intersections where they've run into the water.
01:20We've seen a lot of angry drivers.
01:22I think we're going to get one now, just in time.
01:26So we'll see how he's absolutely doing this in time for us.
01:31So thank you.
01:32Good thing we have our waders on.
01:35And all is well with the world.
01:37But, you know, we see a lot of folks that don't have a lot of patience, that are angry and
01:42don't want to have to deal with this nuisance flooding.
01:45But it will be around through the rest of tonight.
01:49We are headed into a high tide.
01:50It will be bad tomorrow as well through the next high tide cycle, a couple of high tide cycles.
01:56We're anticipating that.
01:57So that's what folks are having to deal with.
02:00Not only that, but there's also some fire ant flotillas.
02:04There's also gasoline.
02:06There's also oil.
02:08Several of the cars that have flooded out, of course, are leaking fluids.
02:11So altogether, it's just not a great recipe for folks that are trying to avoid this mess.
02:17We have talked to a lot of folks that live here that have lived through many nor'easters and coastal
02:22storms.
02:22And here's what one longtime Hampton Road residents had to say about this particular storm.
02:30You just learn to deal with it.
02:32But unfortunately, sometimes you still make the mistake.
02:35Oh, I think I can go down that road.
02:37No, not so much.
02:38When high tide comes back, it's gone down a lot since she's been here since about 730.
02:43And it's definitely receded some since then.
02:47But I imagine when high tide comes back, it's going to come up again because that storm hasn't moved off
02:52yet.
02:58And of course, that's what everyone is waiting for.
03:01That storm to finally get on out of the mid-Atlantic and head up the road, if you will.
03:07But for now, you know, folks are doing their best.
03:10I can say that they have opened several of the floodgates here, or I'm sorry, closed several of the floodgates
03:16here in the Norfolk area to try and prevent a huge overwash problem in parts of the downtown area.
03:23So some of that has helped.
03:25There have been several thousand people without power as well.
03:27That saga will continue, of course, over the next day or so.
03:31For now, we are reporting from Norfolk, Virginia.

04:10Try to keep the feet dry, but then the balance got weird, and I don't know.
04:14Well, and this is what's causing that.
04:15Storm surge, two to three feet that we've seen today, and that's just going to get worse tomorrow as well.
