00:00Bill, this is going to be a long weekend for places that struggle with erosion and coastal flooding.
00:04I know you've been tracking projects they just completed to fix some issues.
00:09Yeah, we are already seeing those issues and problems, Anna and Jeff.
00:13I saw some of that coastal flooding on the drive up from Cape Main.
00:16You can see out here in Ocean City, people are enjoying the calm before the storm.
00:20They're walking along the boardwalk, and there are some surfers out in the water.
00:24You can see this afternoon. We've got some impressive wave action.
00:27And the past few high tide cycles have taken a big bite out of some of these beaches.
00:33There's now a three to four foot drop off carved out along much of the Ocean City shoreline.
00:39Tons of sand have been washed away by the rough surf and wind.
00:43Jetties and pipes that were covered under feet of sand are now exposed once again.
00:48And remember, we're not even truly feeling the direct impacts of the nor'easter just yet here.
00:53You can see from above how the shoreline is quickly changing.
00:56Millions of dollars and tons of sand were poured into this beach over the summer to prepare it for future
01:03storm threats
01:04and to protect the boardwalk and businesses and the homes here.
01:07Locals tell us they are disappointed, but they're not surprised that a lot of that sand only lasted a few
01:13months.
01:13They spent $20 million, and it makes me sad, but you can't rule Mother Nature.
01:23They doubled, almost tripled the size of our beaches down here because they had worn away.
01:30Gwen McIntyre and others are wondering how much of this beach will be left if they end up dealing with
01:37multiple nor'easters this season.
01:39Now, the concerns really are ramping up about the impacts here along the Jersey Shore.
01:44We're learning that voluntary evacuations are now being issued for some coastal towns up and down the shoreline,
01:51including Manisquin, and sandbags are now being offered up in Seabright.
01:55So, again, Jeff and Anna, people are just being warned to take this storm seriously,
02:00be prepared, and especially in those coastal flooding-prone areas,
02:04to move your cars now before tonight's high tide.

02:12I grew up going there.
02:14Great place, but, man, they faced some nasty storms throughout the past century.
02:18Well, and Bill mentioned the voluntary evacuations.
02:20We know there's some states of emergency that have been issued already in parts of New Jersey and New York
02:24ahead of this.
