00:11But you haven't been as lucky with the Mets.
00:13What's your Mets highlight or favorite calls over your decades with the Mets?
00:18My favorite call, just sort of pound for pound,
00:22might actually be the Lindor Grand Slam against the Phillies
00:26just two years ago in the division series.
00:28Now the pitch.
00:30Swing and a drive towards the gap in right center.
00:32It's pretty deep.
00:33It's back near the wall.
00:34It's gone!
00:35It's gone!
00:37Francisco Lindor, he may have just outdone himself.
00:40He has hit a grand slam into the Phillies' bullpen in right center field.
00:47The Mets are leading by a score of 4-1.
00:50They were famished for the big hit all night,
00:53and Francisco Lindor just provided a feast.
00:56What I very, very selfishly and personally liked about the Lindor call
01:01was, again, A, it was at home, so the backdrop was different.
01:04The sound was different.
01:06But, and I hope I'm not overstepping my bounds by saying this,
01:10but it was the one and probably only time in my career
01:13where words came out of my mouth,
01:16and I said, ooh, I like that.
01:19But this is the key to it because as I look back on it,
01:22I thought, wow, you know,
01:23you might have just had your one and only Vin Scully moment
01:27because, and I'm not comparing myself to Vin.
01:29Let me just get that right out front.
01:31But the lyricism of Vin Scully is what so many of us embrace in this business,
01:38aspire to, and ultimately fall short.
01:40When Vin called Kirk Gibson's home run in the World Series in 1988,
01:44the winner in Game 1 against Eckersley and the A's,
01:48it's not just the ways,
01:49it's not what you say as much as sometimes it is the way you say it,
01:53the inflection.
01:54And so as Gibson was routing the bases and Vin said,
01:59in a season that's been so improbable,
02:02the impossible has happened.

02:10See the inflection there?
02:11That kind of sells the moment above and beyond the obvious.
02:14And again, this just came to me
02:16because the Mets had been leaving runners on base
02:19two and three per inning for about five innings,
02:21going into the bottom of the sixth inning
02:23of that game against the Phillies.
02:24They're trailing one to nothing.
02:26They've got the bases loaded.
02:27And you're thinking,
02:28is this another here we go again moment?
02:30Until Francisco breaks through,
02:32hits the grand slam.
02:33And as he's rounding the bases,
02:35I punctuated it by saying
02:36they were famished for the big hit all night
02:39and Francisco Lindor just provided a feast.
02:42Thinking back on it,
02:44I thought if I can ever take anything from Vin Scully
02:48and utilize it within a broadcast of my own,
02:52I'll settle for that one.
