00:00The general debate of the 81st United Nations General Assembly is underway in New York this Tuesday as leaders from
00:07over 130 nations address geopolitical challenges.
00:12Our colleague Jorge Gestoso is there in the city and has the latest details for us at this hour. Go
00:19ahead, Gestoso, we hear you.
00:24Well, there is more news in this historic first day here at the United Nations in New York City.
00:32In the afternoon, around 2 p.m., it was a meeting hosted by President Trump with the Shield of the
00:41Americas.
00:42In Spanish, el escudo de las Americas was participating. Marco Rubio, the Secretary of State of the U.S., and
00:51many of the presidents of Latin America,
00:54mostly of South America and some of them in Central America, that belong to this new quote-unquote club with
01:05the rhetoric or theory that the group has been created to fight.
01:14The official line is that new word created, narco-terrorism, meaning like narcotic groups.
01:23Well, the fact is, in reality, what the criticism is that this group has the double sword that not only
01:35could share military intelligence to fight crime in the region,
01:40but also sharing the participation of some U.S. agencies inside the Latin American countries.
01:50As it's a case, for example, of new FBI offices in a permanent basis in Ecuador since the month of
02:00March.
02:00Also, it's already in the plans to do the same thing in Peru.
02:06And most of the other countries also have a presence of the U.S. military in the life of everyday
02:15life of this country.
02:16So there is this new development here in this afternoon that definitely proves that this coordination of Latin American pro
02:32-U.S. countries with the U.S.
02:34is holding place, is getting more solid, and they were incorporated, for example, Colombia, with the arrival to the presidency
02:45of Abelardo de la Esprilla,
02:48like a new member of the Escudo de las Americas, the Shield of the Americas.
02:52In the evening, we are going to follow very closely the meeting that is scheduled between the acting president of
03:02Venezuela, Delcy Rodriguez, with President Trump.
03:05That is going to take place, theoretically, if the schedule is going to be respected, around 7.40 p.m.
03:15local time.
03:16And we have a lot of expectations to see if that is going to take place as scheduled, as being
03:26planned, and the first statements after that meeting.
03:32So mostly those are the two co-issues that were taking place in the afternoon and is going to take
03:39place during the evening.
03:40So we get back to you now.
03:44Thank you, thank you very much, Estoso, for all of your latest information.
03:50We are going to keep in contact, and indeed is a very expected meeting that you mentioned between acting president
03:57Delcy Rodriguez and also the U.S. president Donald Trump.
