00:00What this boils down to as it attaches to the other tournament is you had five guys for three
00:06spots. J.J. Spahn, Jacob Bridgman, Jackson Koivin, Ryan Gerrard, Patrick Cantlay. And the three that
00:12got picked are the three that got picked. But this feels like a pretty strong case that J.J. Spahn
00:17should have been in Medina this next week on this American team. Yeah, no doubt, especially being
00:22an eighth in points. I thought that J.J. Spahn, before that injury, I thought he was a no-brainer
00:30pick for Brant Seneca, a safe pick. And I think my commentary after he wasn't picked,
00:36when we were kind of breaking down all these guys who made it, who didn't, I was looking
00:40forward to J.J. being on the team because I wanted to see more from him in this setting
00:45because he didn't get very many at-bats at the Ryder Cup. And it's not that he didn't play
00:51poorly there by any stretch of the imagination either. So I just wanted to see more from him.
00:55It was a slow start to the year from J.J. But I felt like the win that he had
01:00at Valero
01:00and then what he did kind of throughout the latter half of the season, I just thought that
01:05injury came at a poor time. And it stinks for a guy like J.J. because his resume is way
01:12stronger
01:12than Jackson Koivin. And it's just one of those things that you can't always rely on a pick
01:20and can kind of do what they want to do. And unfortunate enough for J.J., you know, just
01:25for whatever reason, didn't slide in onto this team. And I felt strongly about Ryan Gerrard
01:30being on this team too. But guess what? We're not the captain. And we're going to find out
01:35if it's going to matter or not because the depth of the United States team, even the guys
01:41that miss, the guys that we're talking about. I mean, when you look at the back half of the
01:45lineup for the international team, like that, that six to 12 guys, like they have to step
01:50up in such a big way to be able to, you know, kind of do away with like this, the
01:57advantages
01:57that they have from a depth standpoint for the United States.
02:01Yeah. I mean, Ryan Gerrard was a guy who was leading the tournament here at the BMW PGA
02:05after shooting 67, 65, the first two rounds, 75 round three, the kind of pulled him out of
02:11it and he finished his tie for 27. But another guy that, you know, has been playing good
02:15golf, was playing good golf through the end of the FedEx Cup playoffs and doesn't end
02:19up on that team. You can decide at whose expense he was, whether that was the Jackson
02:25Coivin pick or the Patrick Cantlay pick probably was neck and neck with Jacob Bridgman. And
02:30all Jacob Bridgman has done his last three starts is ninth of the BMW championship, tied
02:35for fourth of the tour championship, then goes out and wins the Biltmore championship to
02:38join a list of players, a short list of players that have won multiple times on tour
02:43this season when you add in his win at the Genesis Invitational. Rib early this year
02:46holds off Rory McIlroy coming down the stretch there. This is one where it's interesting looking
02:53at Jacob's year, super hot early season to start, tied for fourth at the Sony, a couple
02:59of top 20s in there, then ties for eighth at Pebble, wins the Genesis, ties for fifth at the
03:04players. But then there's this long stretch with outside of the tie for 11th at the Canadian
03:08Open. He's kind of playing mid middling to okay golf. And you're looking at that points list of
03:14wondering, will he get a pick just based on the merits of pairing well with Chris Godrup and the
03:19exclamation point he's put, I mean, even when he was already on his team and pick, but to just
03:24really stamp it like, Hey, I'm going to go out and win. I'm playing great right now. Now I know
03:28the conditions this week were, and I love to talk about the golf course of the tournament itself.
03:31So that was so cool. What we saw is a real shame. They got so much rain. It was ball
03:35in hand.
03:35The conditions were soft, but I think to start with, to start with Jacob, like, this is what
03:41you want to see out of a guy that, that is new blood on this team. First opportunity and could
03:45play a big factor this week in Medina in the, in that same, you know, arena, which we're talking
03:51about and criticizing sneds for not taking JJ spawn. Like you also got to give him credit
03:57to that. Jacob Bridgman is kind of peaking at the correct time here. So, um, huge congrats
04:03to Jacob getting a second win on the PGA tour and seeing that it was going to be a mountain
04:07golf course where guys were going to tear it up. Give me a guy who can put the golf ball
04:11like Jacob Bridgman and JT post and would have been two of the guys that I would have said
04:15at the beginning of the week, one of these guys is going to have a chance to win and to
04:18see the JT post and had a putt at 59 and a Jacob Bridgman shoots a 61. And even just
04:23looking
04:24at the leaderboard going into today and seeing Neil Shipley at the top of the board, Ben James
04:29right around there to, uh, believe Castillo maybe was in that final group with Shipley
04:34was right there. So it kind of felt like it would be a two horse race based off the separation
04:39they had, but it was a golf course where you just had to go low and, and, and looking
04:43at the early board, the first six holes guys were just tearing it up. So it was, uh, it
04:48was, it was a fun, you know, fast track that the guys were trying to keep up and Jacob
04:53Bridgman did the best, uh, especially on the weekend.
04:56Yeah. It's interesting. I mean, first of all, I said, this is someone to start the
05:00week, like JT post in the sky loves diamond Creek played his college golf out of Western
05:04North or Western Carolina. Like just, just sharpie this guy in for a top 10. Yeah. That
05:08charge on Sunday with a 60 to finish tied for fifth and ties for fifth with Jackson
05:13Coivin, another guy that's worth talking about as we lead in the presence.
