00:25Interesting day, huh?
00:27It certainly was.
00:30Competent quarterback play and good defensive play can win you games
00:34in the National Football League, and that was on display yesterday.
00:37Yeah, there's no doubt about it, Jeff, and we hadn't seen either of those
00:41in week one.
00:42Nope.
00:42So the fact that you saw both, to me, was surprising, if not stunning.
00:49And I think refreshing, certainly, for the fans and for Todd Munkin
00:54and for that locker room.
00:56Week two is interesting in the NFL because you see stuff like that.
00:59Yeah, you see rebounds.
01:01I think it says a lot about the coach.
01:03I think it says a lot about the players that you're able to bounce back.
01:07It feels so different at 1-1 than 0-2, you know, for a team, a locker room,
01:12a city.
01:13So that was a huge win.
01:15And then you just never know what's going to come after that.
01:19But I thought the defense certainly was more like we thought it would be.
01:24In week one, caught me by surprise, certainly.
01:28The pass rush was better.
01:29The coverage was better.
01:31I haven't seen if they went, you know, if they went more man than they did week one
01:35or what the difference was.
01:36Maybe they just got used to playing more zone.
01:39Whatever it was, Miles Harden played better at nickel.
01:42It was a huge difference that kept them in the game for the offense to figure stuff out,
01:48Deshaun Watson to figure stuff out, especially in the second half.
01:51Holding the Buccaneers to field goes early made a huge difference.
01:56There's a million ways to look at yesterday's game, too.
01:59And I'm just – let me give you the one thing I'm concerned about,
02:02and then let me – and then we'll talk positive about this.
02:06The running game does not look good here.
02:08When Deshaun Watson's your leading rusher two weeks in a row, that's not a good thing.
02:12And, I mean, is that the line?
02:14Is that the – I mean, how does that – that's got to get fixed if there truly is hope
02:19for the season.
02:20You're 100% right.
02:21And, you know, Munkin brought that up right after the game
02:24and thought that that made Deshaun Watson's performance even more impressive
02:29because he didn't have a run game to rely on.
02:31And, you know, the Bucs kind of knew he had to throw the ball.
02:34I just went back and watched it.
02:35And, you know, there were some runs there where Quinchon Jenkins gained five or seven yards.
02:42So they weren't all bad.
02:44But then they had some negative plays when they tried to run, you know, a jet sweep to Casey Concepcion.
02:49And I thought there were too many negative run plays.
02:52And then they didn't really have an explosive out of the run game.
02:57So, you know, if you're getting four and five and six and those are your best runs
03:01and then you mix in a couple of zeros, negative two, negative five,
03:05then you're not going to have the numbers.
03:07So they do need to figure that out, Andy.
03:10There's no doubt about it.
03:11And, you know, that's something Todd Munkin considers a strength of, you know,
03:16his play calling and his style, his system.
03:18And he's got a fullback, for crying out loud, just to run the ball.
03:21So I don't think he's going to abandon it, but they've got to figure it out.

03:27There's no question in your mind who starts a quarterback moving forward, right?
03:32Well, I don't know about moving forward, but week three.
03:34That's what I'm going to do.
03:35Moving forward to me is week three and week four for sure,
03:39because that's a short week against the Steelers.
03:41And then you reevaluate.
03:43I think he bought himself some goodwill with this performance, Scott.
03:47And I think more than two weeks' worth of performance,
03:50because obviously he backed up whatever it was that Todd Munkin decided
03:55was the factor that makes Deshaun your starter, no?
03:59Yeah.
03:59I mean, he certainly played well.
04:01To me, there's no doubt that he's, you know, the guy this week.
04:04And I think you're right.
04:06And I think the short week to Pittsburgh means he's a guy week four.
04:09And you know how coaches are.
04:10Sure.
04:11Jeff, if you see it out of a guy,
04:14then you think it's always there and you can bring it out.
04:17And this is, you know, I think Todd Munkin felt that way about Deshaun Watson
04:22when going back to the Houston days.
04:23He mentioned that a million times, you know, during the offseason.
04:28Yeah, we've seen it in him.
04:30We know what his potential is.
04:31But then when you see it live and you see it present tense, you know,
04:36then you go, okay, I have this in this player.
04:39And that gives you, I think it gives you more reason to stick with him,
04:43more reason to give him to be patient with Deshaun Watson.
04:48Having said that, it's an up and down league and it's one week.
04:52And we've seen Watson, since he's been here, have these moments.
04:55He's just been unable to duplicate them consistently enough, right?
05:00He's been inconsistent since he's been here.
05:04So, you know, I don't think people should get carried away coming off week two.
05:08I get the excitement.
05:09I get that he played well.
05:10And you think, okay, he's healthy and maybe he's in a better mental, you know,
05:15better mentally, better mindset, that he's going to continue to build off this.
05:19And that is entirely possible.
05:22But you also know that, okay, we've seen him not play well.
05:25So if he doesn't play well week three, week four,
05:27then I think we're back to having the same discussion.
05:29So it's up to Watson and his team now to build off that
05:33and to make it a non-issue for however long, right?
05:39I mean, if he continues to win games, he continues to play well,
05:41then, yeah, then it won't be a discussion.
05:43But if they're not winning games and he's not playing well,
05:45then it becomes, well, you want to see the kid,
05:48Intruder Sanders, you want to see what you have in him.
05:52So it's an interesting situation.
05:54It's always going to be, I don't know what the reaction is going to be
05:56Sunday at the stadium.
05:58I'm going to be talking about that and thinking about that all week.
06:03But I think this certainly does buy Watson some time.
06:06And I'll tell you, even during the game yesterday, like at halftime,
06:09I said, you know, I mean, he's playing fine.
06:12But if they lost, I still thought they would make the move to Sanders.
06:17And then at some point in that second half, you're like, okay, well, he did enough.
06:20And it's going to be his job at least week three.
06:24And you're right, probably week three and week four.
06:25And then who knows how long after that.
06:27At the bare minimum, they don't have to hire the Lane Kiffin security squad
06:31to come to the game, right?
06:32That's what the wind did.
06:34Well, it's a, I mean, I get it.
06:36It took the wind out of the fan sales that were, you know, like,
06:39I'm just going to boo.
06:40I'm just going to boo.
06:41I can't tell how many people said that, that they were just like,
06:44I'm just going to the game to boo just for the beginning.
06:46And then I'm probably going to take,
06:47because they just expected the team to get smacked yesterday.
06:50Right, right.
06:51No, I think that's, I think that's right, Andy.
06:54He's such a complicated story to Sean Watson, because, you know,
07:00the wind yesterday doesn't erase all the off the field stuff, right?
07:06Right.
07:06It doesn't.

07:08It doesn't erase four years.
07:09It doesn't erase four years of, you know,
07:12and it's not his fault that they traded the draft picks and gave him that
07:15contract, but that's all lumped into to Sean Watson.
07:17Like that doesn't go away.
07:18And if he throws an interception early and they lose to Carolina,
07:22he's going to get booed off the field.
07:24So that it's good.
07:27Well, I think he's got some good.
07:28I have no doubt that the team and Todd Munkin have more goodwill than they
07:33did 24 hours ago.
07:35I don't know about to Sean Watson.
07:37I really don't.
07:38I think there's a segment of the fans that are going to boom when he walks or
07:41jogs out on the field Sunday.
07:43I think that's just going to happen.
07:45That was going to be less than it would have been if they had lost yesterday
07:49and he had played poorly.
07:51Certainly.
07:52But I just think there's too much history for yesterday alone to change the
07:57reaction.
07:57And I could be wrong.
07:59And I don't think it's, you know,
08:01it certainly doesn't feel like it's going to be off the charts.
08:05Like maybe it would have been, but if, you know,
08:07if he'd played poorly, he wasn't going to start next week anyway.
08:10So it, you know, all the dynamics are there.
08:14It's just, I think it's fascinating.
08:17And I'm curious to see what the overall reaction is,
08:20but I don't think the general perception of the fan base changed just because
08:26of yesterday.
