00:00On one side, I have Apple's best smartphone yet, the iPhone 17 Pro Max, coming with a redesigned orange aluminum
00:06unibody, a brand new vapor chamber, and a fun new square sensor for the front-facing camera.
00:12And then, on the other hand, I have Samsung's best of the best, the Galaxy S26 Ultra, with a crazy
00:18new privacy display, a 200-megapixel camera sensor on the back, and, of course, that S Pen that they still
00:25hold on to truly without any Bluetooth features.
00:27Both of them selling for over a grand, with the iPhone starting at $1,200, and the Galaxy costing a
00:34bit more at $1,300.
00:36So, with all that money on the line, let's put these two giants head-to-head and see which one
00:40comes out on top.

00:46So, this year, the iPhone 17 Pro Max comes with an aluminum unibody frame, just like the Galaxy S26 Ultra.
00:53And I can see why they switched back. After all, aluminum is lighter, and it handles heat better.
00:59The only downside, though, is that it is softer, so it won't feel quite as tough as before, and some
01:04users were reminded of that very fact upon returning back to it.
01:08Now, the updated look of the iPhone 17 is polarizing, but instantly recognizable with that same triangular lens setup, rounder
01:15edges, matte glass back,
01:17an action button for extra controls, and the camera control button, which is neat, but really only useful for quickly
01:24launching the camera.
01:25It bulked up, too. It's thicker and heavier than the S26 Ultra, but it still feels nice in the hand,
01:30and it feels very premium, too.
01:32Now, on the other hand, the S26 Ultra also dropped the titanium build material after two years and went back
01:38to aluminum.
01:39So, this time, it's using what Samsung calls Armour Aluminum 2, which is supposed to be a lot more durable.
01:45In terms of looks, unlike the iPhone, there's not much of a redesign over here, but the corners are even
01:50rounder, the camera rings are less pronounced,
01:53and there's an oblong camera module that, unfortunately, makes the phone wobble even more when it's lying flat.
01:59They also rounded off the bottom of the S Pen to match the new design, which looks nice, but now
02:04you kind of have to pay attention when putting it back in, or it'll sit a little weird.
02:08It might not look as classy or professional as previous versions, but it's still really nice to hold and use,
02:13and, yeah, it still feels very premium.
02:16If I had to pick one which looks better to me, I'd choose the iPhone over the Samsung, though, just
02:20because it's got a lot more character this time around.
02:23I mean, don't get me wrong, Samsung's design is very great, but they also need to provide some more exciting
02:27colors.
02:28Now, as for the software, Android versus iOS is a battle that continues to rage on, and this could easily
02:33be its own video series.
02:35As you know, I personally prefer Android for its greater customization freedom, but iOS still has a lot going for
02:41itself.
02:42I personally love the lock screen customization.
02:44Just being able to have the clock be behind the subject of your wallpaper and follow your hand movement is
02:49incredible.
02:50On the Galaxy, it's just not as easy, but I actually just recently made a video showing how to do
02:55that with a third-party app,
02:57and how to fully customize it in under 10 minutes, which I'll leave a link in the cards if you
03:02want to check that video out later.
03:03Another thing that I love about iOS, too, is just the smaller things, like being able to tap on the
03:08top of the display to instantly jump back to the top of the page.
03:12It also has built-in motion cues, which helps with motion sickness in a moving vehicle,
03:16and being able to move multiple home screen icons and even entire pages in one go is great.
03:22I also enjoy the Dynamic Island, Siri Shortcuts is seriously underrated and powerful,
03:27and it goes without saying that the Apple ecosystem and its inter-device continuity are just the best in the
03:32market,
03:33even though Samsung's isn't something to sneeze at either.
03:36Sadly enough, though, iOS 26 in particular I think has fallen a bit short in a number of ways,
03:42and I think a lot of people can agree.
03:44For instance, its AI is still really bad, which I'll get to more in a second.
03:48And Liquid Glass is also pretty controversial, too.
03:51I mean, I don't hate it, but it's not my absolute favorite, either.
03:54The iOS keyboard is also still a mess, especially when it comes to typing accuracy
03:58and that annoying missing number row at the top.
04:02I've also noticed a few other bugs throughout iOS, which I've been told will be fixed soon,
04:06but I'm not entirely sure when.
04:08There's also still no multi-window functionality, no proper universal back gesture like on Android.
04:13Changing default apps is a lot more limited on iOS than on Android,
04:17and there's really no way to change the home screen grid size,
04:21which, I mean, I do want to change it.
04:23You're stuck with that, and you can't do much about it.
04:25And then on the other end with One UI, I mean, it's just the complete opposite.
04:29If you can think of something to modify or an action you want done, One UI can probably do it,
04:35especially with the GoodLuck app.
04:36You can practically change the entire look of the OS.
04:39I already made a video going over all the new software changes on the S26.
04:42I'll link it in the cards, but I'll quickly go through my favorites.
04:47First, and this one's super underrated, is automation.
04:50You can literally open Gemini, tell your phone what you want to do, and it'll do it for you.
04:55Like, say you need an Uber to the airport, you can just tell it to do that,
04:58and it'll literally start to do it.
05:00Like, it'll open the app, type everything in,
05:03and find rides in the background while you're doing something else.
05:07And then it just notifies you when it's ready to go.
05:10It's actually really useful, and literally no other phone can do this yet.
05:13Plus, I also love Now Nudge, which is this new tool that lives in the keyboard.
05:18Basically, it pays attention to what you're talking about within a messaging conversation,
05:21and it pulls up helpful stuff right when you need it.
05:25Like, if you took a trip with your friend, and the friend asks you for the pictures,
05:29it'll bring up the option to let you bring it up quickly.
05:31It's that easy.
05:32And one more thing about the Galaxy S26 is that they're actually going to be the first Android phones, too,
05:37to support Apple's AirDrop feature.
05:39Currently, it's still rolling out to more countries,
05:41but it's actually dropped on my phone,
05:43and I've been loving being able to transfer files to my iPhone way more easily.
05:48So it's great.
05:48And aside from these new changes, there's also been a handful of features
05:52that I've been loving on One UI for years,
05:54like the fact that you can add any widget to your lock screen,
05:57you can select different animations for when you unlock your phone,
06:00you can change the home screen folder sizes,
06:02you can tune animations, tweak the keyboard,
06:05you can clone messaging apps,
06:07there's a whole secure folder, too,
06:09where you can keep all your private and sensitive files and apps in there as well.
06:13And of course, you can't forget about Dex,
06:15where you get a full-on desktop experience.
06:18I mean, the list just goes on and on.
06:21Not to mention the variety of other cool stuff that you can do with the S Pen.
06:24And you can change just about anything on a deeper, more granular level.
06:29One UI already was and is a few steps of iOS in the customization category.
06:34Plus, once you add good luck to the mix,
06:36man, it's not even competition at that point.
06:38And we're not even done there yet, too,
06:40because we haven't even talked about AI.
06:42This could easily be its own video,
06:44but in simple terms,
06:46Samsung, I mean, just takes the cake here,
06:48as Apple intelligence still hasn't reached its heights
06:52that Apple promised a while back.
06:54I mean, it's not completely awful or anything.
06:56In fact, some of the AI features work quite well and most of its process on the device,
07:01making things more secure and less resource-hungry.
07:04Like, for instance, iOS 26 got its own version of call screening along with hold assist.
07:08There's visual intelligence, live translation, writing tools.
07:12You can do fun things like merge two emojis together and more.
07:16But when it comes to things like generative AI, AI select, contextual information integration,
07:23automation, now nudge, creative and photo editing tools, and much more,
07:27it's pretty clear to see who has the upper hand here.
07:30I mean, they even added perplexity to the list of AI assistants you can use natively,
07:33which is pretty neat if you're into that.
07:35iOS will be getting new versions of Siri and Apple intelligence
07:39powered by Google's Gemini models and cloud tech at some point.
07:43So we'll see how that enhances the AI user experience.
07:46All in all, both OSs are great.
07:48But if I had to pick a winner, personally, I go with One UI.
07:52It gets the crown here.
07:53Now, with all the photos and videos that I've taken on the S26 Ultra
07:56and the iPhone 17 Pro Max,
07:58I started to use a NAS to back everything up locally for better privacy.

09:13Other things I love too is that it syncs with Google Drive.
09:15So moving files between cloud storage and your NAS is seamless.

09:46Now for the displays, both of these beasts come with some of the nicest screens you'll ever lay your eyes
09:51on.
09:51Big, bright, crisp, colorful, and super smooth, packed with some of the best tech.
09:56The 7T Pro Max display boosts 3,000 nits of peak brightness compared to the S26 Ultra's 2,600 nits.
10:03Plus the iPhone also has its own anti-reflective coating to block out some of that glare.
10:08Though I wouldn't say it's quite as effective as the S26 Ultra's.
10:12And there are a few extra display improvements for the iPhone as well,
10:15including better scratch resistance with its new Ceramic Shield 2,
10:19and the ability to control the screen's PWM flicker so that the screen is easier to look at at night
10:25with low brightness.
10:27Great stuff all around.
10:28On the flip side, the S26 Ultra actually has an 8-bit display, not a 10-bit.
10:33But Samsung says it simulates a 10-bit display, which should result in smoother color banding in pictures and videos.
10:40But the biggest story here that I really like is the privacy display.
10:44Of course, this is the only phone in the world with this feature.
10:47With just a few taps, the screen narrows its viewing angles so that no one can see what you're doing
10:52on your phone.
10:52It's pretty much giving you the same functionality as a cheap privacy screen protector, but built right into the display.
11:00And since this is built at the pixel level, you can also enable it on a per-app basis.
11:05Like maybe just having it enabled when you open your bank app or your camera.
11:09Or even just cover up even smaller items like your notifications or when you're entering your password.
11:15Separately from the display, of course.
11:17It's extremely impressive.
11:18And to be fair, though, I've seen a lot of criticism, people saying that it lowers the screen's resolution and
11:23brightness when it's on.
11:25But again, this is optional, folks.
11:27You don't have to use it all the time.
11:29And honestly, I do see the dip in quality when it's enabled, especially if you crank it up to maximum
11:35privacy protection.
11:36But honestly, I'd much rather have sensitive apps and info stay private when I'm out.
11:41I don't really worry about the slight drop in resolution when I'm using my bank app either way.
11:46It's really not that bad, too.
11:47Plus, a cool little trick is that within the modes and routines app, you can also set it to turn
11:51on automatically when you leave the house and have it turn back off when you get back home.
11:56That's exactly what I did.
11:57And it's been great.
11:59It's something that I miss whenever I switch over to the iPhone or any other phone for that matter.
12:04Other than that, on the iPhone, you've got your usual Dynamic Island cutout, which also has the super secure Face
12:10ID.
12:10And then on the Galaxy, you've got that usual pinhole cutout, which also comes with basin lock and the same
12:16ultrasonic fingerprint scanner under the display.
12:19Now, performance-wise, both phones are extremely fast, which you'd expect at this price.
12:25I didn't really have a problem with each.
12:27They've got some of the highest end processing power that you can get any mobile device.
12:31The 17 Pro Max runs on Apple's A19 Pro chip, and the Galaxy packs the latest Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen
12:395 chipset, tuned specifically for it, too.
12:42Now, the iPhone's new kit delivers notably improved sustained performance without throttling during heavier tasks, and that's thanks to a
12:50new vapor chamber.
12:51The Galaxy, on the other hand, has also received an updated vapor chamber, too, for better thermal management, and it,
12:57too, maintains incredible peak performance for heavier tasks better than before.
13:02I mean, I could play some intense heavy 3D graphic games on both phones in a large open world at
13:07max settings, and both of them handle them without a problem.
13:11Very buttery and smooth gameplay.
13:13But, again, neither device ever fell victim to serious lag, hiccups, concerning performance, any dips, or serious overheating.
13:23They'll get warm during intense tasks, but that's normal, and that's what those vapor chambers are for.
13:29Both phones are buttery smooth, extremely fast, and quick to perform any tasks that 99% of users will throw
13:35at them from doom scrolling to high-intensity gaming with little to no friction at all.
13:40Now, for the battery, this one's interesting.
13:42Fun fact, the iPhone 17 Pro Max's new unibody design actually freed up some space to include a larger battery
13:50capacity.
13:50So now, it comes with a 5,088 mAh capacity with the eSIM only model and 4,823 mAh in
14:01the nanoSIM model.
14:02And that's around an 8% increase for the eSIM and almost a 3% increase with the nanoSIM when
14:08compared to the 16 Pro Max.
14:10Then, for the Galaxy S26 Ultra, there's no increase in battery at all, and it's literally the sixth year in
14:17a row where the battery hasn't changed.
14:20It's pretty bizarre.
14:21Still, both devices delivered exceptional battery life and yield very comparable results.
14:26I mean, it's safe to say that both phones can provide all-day battery life and then some more.
14:31Power users can expect to charge them by the end of the day, while light to moderate users can get
14:36a single charge to last few hours into the next day.
14:40It's pretty great.
14:40Now, keep in mind that battery life is always subjective, but with my testing, if I had to choose a
14:45winner in this category, I'd go with the iPhone 17 Pro Max.
14:49That bump in battery capacity along with the A19 Pro's efficiency and optimization make for stronger and more reliable results
14:56overall.
14:57It's raw endurance is impressive, keeping battery drain out of the picture and seemingly leaving the battery percentage untouched during
15:05low power use and even idling.
15:07But don't get it twisted, the S26 Ultra is right up there and can absolutely surpass the A17 Pro Max
15:12in some other scenarios and testing too.
15:15Now, on the charging front, the S26 Ultra also got upgraded to 60 watt wire charging.
15:20That keeps it ahead from the A17 Pro Max, which sits at 40 watt wire charging.
15:26And still, I mean, that's nothing compared to what you see in other phones nowadays that can go up to
15:30100 watts or even more.
15:32But it was still great to have, they charge somewhat fast.
15:36For wireless charging, they mirror each other at 25 watts, but the iPhone still has the upper hand with MagSafe.
15:43It's kind of annoying too because the S26 Ultra is now Qi 2.2 ready, but yet again, Samsung opted
15:49to not integrate Qi 2 magnets in the back of the phone.
15:52And Samsung claims that it has to do with the magnets interfering with the electromagnetic digitizer required for the S
15:58-Pen's functionality.
15:59But still, even on the cheaper S26 Plus, it also doesn't have any magnets and it also supports Qi 2
16:05.2 and has no S-Pen.
16:07So, yeah, that's kind of annoying.
16:10Now, when it comes to the cameras, both systems are top tier, some of the best around.
16:14And yet again, I think this category also boils down to personal preference and what you're looking for in a
16:20mobile camera system.
16:21General everyday shots are incredibly comparable with only a couple of minor details differentiating them.
16:27The iPhone shots tend to lean to a warmer side of things, while the Galaxy favors cooler tones.
16:33And from what I can tell, the S26 Ultra shots tend to be more color accurate to what I'm seeing
16:39in person.
16:40Low light results are close too, where the Galaxy shots can come out a bit noisier, but with a bit
16:45more detail in certain shots.
16:47And the iPhone handles harsh light sources better with cleaner shadows.
16:52Deep range zoom goes to the S26 Ultra too, and it's got a more versatile setup too with a 3x
16:58optical and a 5x optical telephoto lenses.
17:01Though the iPhone definitely holds its own here, and will sometimes even outperform the Galaxy.
17:07Video capture is also very comparable, but I think the iPhone still remains the best choice for video as a
17:13whole.
17:13Samsung has been catching up, however, especially on the Pro side of things.
17:17The Expert RAW add-on is a fantastic tool, providing more controls to mess with.
17:21And the same thing goes for the Pro video mode, only this time around, Samsung added the option to shoot
17:26Log with the new APV codec.
17:29Giving you much more dynamic range and post-processing flexibility.
17:33You also get a handful of baked-in LUTs to take advantage of, and you can now save recordings directly
17:39to external storage too.
17:40Another thing about the S26 Ultra 2 is that it has a neat little trick up its sleeve called Horizon
17:45Lock, which is camera stabilization on steroids.
17:49Basically, while you're recording a video, you can rotate the phone to any degree, and the final video will come
17:54out straight.
17:55Almost as if you never rotated the phone.
17:58It's pretty mind-blowing how well this works.
18:00Definitely going to be useful for things like high-energy action shots.
18:04The iPhone 17 Pro Max has its own trick up its sleeve too.
18:07Something perhaps more on the practical side of things, and that's the square sensor in the center stage front-facing
18:13camera.
18:13Which basically allows you to capture horizontal shots without needing to rotate the phone.
18:19Very useful for things like group photos.
18:22And then when it comes to editing, the S26 series comes with a lot of awesome AI tools.
18:27The newest one that I really like is Photo Assist, where you can literally just type out what you want
18:31to change, and it'll do it.
18:34You can change the look of the sky, remove bystanders in the background, and a lot more just by typing
18:40it out.
18:40It's pretty great.
18:41So it's just such a close battle.
18:43Sometimes I prefer the cameras on the Galaxy, and other times I prefer the iPhone.
18:47But if I had to pick one, I'd give the slight edge to the iPhone when it comes to photos
18:52and videos being taken.
18:54But when it comes to photo and video editing, the Samsung is the winner here for me.
18:59I mean, you can literally just modify any photo any way you'd like so easily.
19:02If only we could just merge the two.
19:04So at the end of the day, which one should you go with?
19:07The Galaxy S26 Ultra or the iPhone 17 Pro Max?
19:11Honestly, even though you can't go wrong with either, I personally go with the Galaxy S26 Ultra.
19:17I mean, don't get me wrong.
19:18The iPhone is going to deliver just as great performance.
19:21It's going to have slightly better standby time, and it's cheaper than the S26 Ultra.
19:26But the Galaxy just has a lot more powerful tech built inside.
19:29It's a lot smarter and has features that genuinely made my life a lot easier and more secure.
19:36I mean, we're talking about the privacy display to the useful AI features that can literally do tasks for me
19:41and bring up info right when I need it.
19:44And on top of that, it can fix any photo that I've taken with a simple sentence.
19:48I mean, that's pretty great.
19:49And not to mention all the other features packed into this beast of a software package, One UI.
19:54This is truly the Swiss army knife of phones.
19:57Nowadays, it's not always about the specs inside the phone because every phone, mostly every phone,
20:02including the cheap ones, will deliver solid performance and take a good picture or tail.
20:08Instead, I would say it's about the new quality of life features that will actually help you save time.
20:12And the Galaxy definitely did that for me a lot better than the iPhone.
