00:32Yeah, I mean, he looks like he's really agreeing with it so far.
00:36Shane's such a smooth rider, and he's one of those guys that I remember years ago in the 250 class.
00:42I think it was 2019, the year I won the championship.
00:46He wasn't doing well in outdoors, and he just came out of nowhere and went 1-1.
00:50He kind of reminds me of a guy like Justin Hill.
00:52There's so much talent in there.
00:54He's a race winner in the 250 class, and sometimes he can go out there and really show some pace.
00:59Chase, do you have some experience battling him down to the wire at Salt Lake City for a championship?
01:03Yeah, he made me lose some sleep that year.
01:06He was on the star bike, and we went to Salt Lake, and he was – I raced him there
01:11in 2018, actually.
01:13Adam and I both raced him, and I think he passed everybody.
01:17Like we were standing still in the loops.
01:18And won, and I knew coming into 2020 that we had that extended stay for COVID, and I knew he
01:25was going to be good.
01:26And he came out and won the first two races and really put me on my heels.
01:29So I know he is a really good rider, and I think he has more than what he's shown in
01:34the last three years.
01:36I think he just takes maybe him being comfortable.
01:39And I think also when you get to the 450 class, let's just say you don't –

01:52The class is so deep that it really takes time to build that confidence back,
01:54and I think maybe that's what you're seeing with Shane is you have to believe you can do it before
01:58you do it.
01:58And I think for him, especially Shane, he needs that belief to go out there and be at the front.
02:06I know he's capable of it as a rider, so I think it's just maybe a confidence thing.
02:10Well, we reference this all the time, Adam, and we're all stick and ball fans.
02:14College football quarterback, very difficult to be an NFL quarterback.
02:18That's a similar transition, 250s or 450s.
02:20In the 450 class, you're racing all champions.
02:23Yeah, I mean, in order to be at the front of this class, Chase, it requires –
02:28you just have to be such a well-rounded rider in all different types of conditions.
02:32And as you said, you have to believe it before you go out there and do it
02:35as he makes a little mistake right there
02:37because your mind is only relying on the evidence that you have from the weekend before
02:41or two weekends before.
02:43And so if you just have those small little results, a heat race win
02:48or being top five in qualifying, it just takes those little building blocks
02:51to start to get that belief because there is nothing like going to the gate
02:55with all these champions and not being sure about your ability,
02:59not being sure if you belong there.
03:01But Shane McGrath certainly does.

03:09Yeah, Jason Anderson has been ruled out of today's racing in Los Angeles.
03:13In a statement from the team, Jason, out for tonight's event due to injuries
03:17sustained in the first round in Columbus.
03:19This is it right here as we take a look back at the incident
03:22that unfolded last weekend in Columbus.
03:24Jason tried to ride.
03:26We saw him in the first qualifier today,
03:27but ultimately wasn't healed enough to race tonight.

03:35assisting Jason Anderson to get him out of harm's way.

03:53or a broken wrist during the week,
03:54so we were all surprised that he was even here.
03:56Unfortunately, not going to have a chance to go after it here

04:01Yeah, he gave it a shot.
04:02And as a racer, if you're on the fence like that,
04:06sometimes it's nice to go out there and at least try.
04:08You've got to be able to rule it out completely.

04:22That's Chase Sexton's replacement during the summer.
04:24He got an opportunity to get out there,
04:27ride for a factory team, a career opportunity,
04:30really an opportunity of a lifetime.
04:31And, Adam, you worked with him a little bit this summer.
04:33And his skills during the week,
04:35if they could transfer here to playoff race number two,
04:38you think he's got some pretty high hopes and could finish pretty high?
04:40Oh, no doubt.
04:41The way he rides the bike, he's so efficient, doesn't rush around,
04:45never looks like he's in too much of a hurry,
04:48very repeatable the way he rides the bike.
04:51I think the biggest thing we were working on,
04:53he comes over from Europe, so he likes standing a lot.
04:56He stands really late into his turns.
04:59But Tondo just needs a little bit of momentum.
05:01He had a lot of good results this summer,
05:03but towards the end, just some bad starts, mistakes, crashes.
05:07Had the mud last weekend, but I think if he can get a good start.

06:34He got a win a week ago in Columbus, got that wild card race win.
06:38And we were talking about him in the mud,
06:39that he could potentially go out there and get a top five,
06:41maybe even a podium, a career best that he had earlier this season in Foxborough.
06:45But McElrath on top, 51.1.
06:48And his teammate, Benny Bloss, 51.7.
06:51So the two Liquimele Beta Riders, one and two.
06:54They are.
06:54Those are some good times, too, in both of these practices.
06:57For the 450 unseated track, definitely a little bit slower, I think,
07:01particularly in the sand.
07:03Once those kind of man-made berms blow out, Chase,
07:06you just cannot carry the same amount of speed.
07:08Well, I think we're starting to see that hard base come through a little bit, too,
07:10as well as in the sand.
07:12Because people have to remember that that sand section,
07:14it's got a base somewhere.
07:15You just got to find it.
07:17And I found that thing a few times.
07:19But I think I actually have some insider information on Shane
07:23because one of my good friends from Illinois,
07:25his dad is this practice bike mechanic.
07:27And he says, and from what I've heard,
07:29I've heard Shane is a pretty picky rider when it comes to suspension.
07:32He's always kind of tinkering.
07:33And from what Paul's his name,
07:36he said that Shane hasn't touched really anything on this bike.
07:40And he said he loves the front-end feel of it.
07:43He said he can kind of put it wherever he wants.
07:45And I think on a track like this,
07:47that 51-1 lap time is not a...
07:49That is no slouch of a lap time,
07:51especially on this track.
07:52With them coming after the A practice,
07:54I'm not going to lie, we blow everything out.
07:56Especially everything.
07:57Everything's gone.
07:58So that track, even though they're riding it right after,
08:01the track is completely different because we destroy it.
08:04So I think Benny just ran a 51-0.
08:08That's a really good time.
08:09So we got the beta guys going back and forth
08:12on who's going to be the one that's really happy at the track.
08:15Before the races,
08:16and who's going to be mad that his teammate beat him?
08:17Well, it does make sense
08:19because I have heard that too, Chase,
08:21that the betas are really good on this type of condition,
08:25a little slicker.
08:26And you could tell Shane has a lot of confidence on lean angle
08:29coming into some of these corners
08:30where you see that base shining through.
08:32Well, I believe it's a steel frame, right?
08:34I believe in the beta, it's a steel frame.
08:36So that kind of goes along with what I was saying
08:39with the KTM.
08:41I don't even know if it's the flex,
08:42but I have firsthand experience of riding the KTM
08:46in the hard pack,
08:46and I've done really well on it,
08:49which I,
08:50and like even when it comes to like Denver,
08:52like Cooper and those guys were all saying,
08:55I don't know,
08:56I heard something about arm pump
08:58and like the track feels like it's really like choppy.
09:01I'm like,
09:01I don't feel none of that.
09:02I feel great out there.
09:03So I don't know,
09:04maybe it is a steel frame,
09:05but Shane is also really good in these conditions
09:07just from himself as a rider.

10:06I didn't like it so much in the 250 because if,
10:08he was clipping it,
10:09but I think on the 450,
10:11that line could come into play.
10:14And I think him and Benny are both doing that same line.
10:17So Shane did not better Benny's time.
10:19So we'll see if,

10:24Benny has been on beta for a few years or maybe last year,
10:27his first year.
10:28I think having Shane for Benny is going to be a good thing for him.
10:31It's going to push those guys.

10:34just knowing Benny's attitude.
10:35And I think having Shane on the team is going to push him to a higher level.
10:40And it could be a good year for those guys next year.
