Week one in the NFL was full of surprises around the fantasy football world. Dave Richard joined The Sports Junkies this morning to explain some things that everyone should keep in mind while setting their lineups for week two. How did your fantasy football team perform in week one?

00:03It's here, and how did you do in your—I'm scared to ask this open question to all of you
00:08because I'm afraid of what tangent he's going to go off on, but how did you do in week one?
00:13Two and two.
00:14In my most important leagues, I took the collar 0 for 2.
00:18I was facing cakes, Dave. I was facing cakes in one of our leagues.
00:21He beat me. He put up 250 points because he had Shuck and he had Caleb, same team.
00:26They put up like 90 points, just those two guys.
00:28Yeah, silly, super flex league.
00:30That's beautiful.
00:30Yeah, it is. Very nice.
00:31But two and two, not bad.
00:33Dave, question.
00:34Not bad.
00:34Is Antonio Daniels one of the most picked up guys this week?
00:38Antonio Williams.
00:39Antonio Williams, sorry.
00:40Yeah.
00:41I mean, I remember Antonio Daniels when he was playing basketball.
00:43He was with the Grizzlies, if I—
00:45And with the Wizards.
00:46And with the Wizards.
00:47Yeah, I'm sorry. Had him on my brain.
00:49How could I not even remember that?
00:52I thought he came alive after Chick Okonkwo got hurt.
00:55He saw more playing time, certainly saw more targets.
00:57After Okonkwo left the field, they went with more 11 personnel.
01:01And I think the commanders can build off of this.
01:03I think he's worth stashing in fantasy.
01:05But here, the other headline, the other side of this is,
01:08okay, we saw Stephon Diggs basically playing maybe like a more souped-up version
01:14of the Zach Ertz role, at least the same area of the field
01:17where Ertz would get a lot of his targets the last two years.
01:19And we saw Antonio Williams become a thing.
01:22Okonkwo a little bit before that.
01:25Terry didn't see the type of target volume that we're used to seeing.
01:28In fact, he only had two targets in the first three quarters in the game.
01:31A lot of his routes were on the outside.
01:33This is against Philadelphia.
01:34Their defensive style is to protect against the big play.
01:37And I think that the commanders went into the game looking to attack the middle of the field.
01:41I'm a little nervous about what that target volume will be moving forward for McLaurin.
01:47Because Diggs is there and because Antonio Williams is there,
01:49it's a great problem for the commanders.
01:51It's a really big problem for the commanders' opponents.
01:55But it's a little bit of a problem for fantasy managers that we're counting on Terry McLaurin
01:59to have a big year.
02:00And, you know, David Blau made his comment in the offseason,
02:02we've got to find ways to get him 10 targets in the game.
02:04Well, they don't anymore.
02:05Because between Stephon and Antonio and Okonkwo when he comes back,
02:10I think they've got a solution here where they can spread the ball around
02:13and that makes their offense more dangerous.
02:16Yeah, I hope they go to him early.
02:17Terry, go to him.
02:19A much better day offensively.
02:21I got him on one of my teams.
02:22All right, so last week you told me, because I had Bowers and he obviously didn't play,
02:25you told me to pick up Michael Mayer.
02:27I did.
02:27I started him.
02:28If Bowers doesn't go, am I starting Mayer again or I have Kelsey on the bench?
02:34I might go Kelsey if it's PPR.
02:36Yes, it is.
02:37Otherwise, I'd go Mayer if it's not.
02:38And I don't even know if I really want to stick with that
02:41because it's not like Kelsey has this huge role
02:43and he's got huge target share in Kansas City.
02:46And I think the Chiefs made it clear on Monday that if they're able to run the football,
02:50they're going to do it again and again and again.
02:53And that does make me, you know, put me down for Mayer.
02:56I actually have him ranked higher either way.
02:58Mayer has an opportunity.
02:59I don't know how this game with the Raiders and the Chargers is going to go exactly.
03:02I think there's a chance the Raiders win
03:03because the Chargers were just so flat on offense, especially after Lab McConkie got hurt.
03:09Their offensive line didn't look good.
03:11Their defense allowed a bunch of numbers to Arizona.
03:13I think the Raiders can try and replicate that.
03:15And the Raiders have an underrated pass rush.
03:17They kind of have an underrated defense overall.
03:19And so I think if it's a competitive game,
03:21we're going to see Michael Mayer still get a good amount of targets.
03:24If it's a game where the Raiders build a lead, well, we just saw one of those.
03:27The yards weren't great for Michael Mayer, but he still had a lot of targets.
03:30Seven is good for a tight end.
03:31So I think I'd go Mayer either way over Kelsey.
03:33I'd also start him over Fannin.
03:35I'd start him over Dalton Schultz.
03:37I'd start him over Kittle.
03:38I just think that there's more opportunity for Mayer in the event that Brock Bowers is out.
03:43Obviously, Brock Bowers plays.
03:44You're not going to use Michael Mayer.
03:45Hey, Dave, I'm in a quarterback quandary.
03:48You know what they say.
03:48If you have three quarterbacks, you're considering you don't have a quarterback.
03:51I have to pick from Shuck, Stafford, or Love this weekend.
03:55I know you have Shuck ranked the highest.
03:57Yeah, I do.
03:58And it's because the Saints basically gave up on their run game after the first quarter
04:03last week against Detroit.
04:04And they put it all on Tyler Shuck.
04:06They had a 70% pass rate.
04:08And he came through.
04:09He was rusty at first.
04:10And remember, the Saints were one of those offenses that didn't put their starters on
04:14the field in the preseason.
04:16By the time they got to the fourth quarter, Shuck was cooking.
04:18And Olave was making huge plays down the field.
04:21Devon Vele was making plays.
04:23They've got themselves components of a good offense.
04:25And they play at a fast pace.
04:26I think they're going to be trailing against Baltimore, although I can't guarantee they're
04:31going to be trailing if there's no Zake Flowers for the Ravens.
04:34If he's not there, I don't think that changes conceptually what the Ravens want to do offensively.
04:39It just takes a really good player off the field.
04:40They have other fast receivers that they can put in Zake's place.
04:43They're just not as good as Zake Flowers.
04:44Very few receivers are.
04:45And so I think that just the nature of the Saints offense is good enough for Shuck to get a
04:52look this week.
04:53I've got him as a borderline starter.

05:19And they weren't a great unit.
05:20Look at what happened in that game against Detroit.
05:22They gave up 30 points.
05:23I think it was an overtime.
05:25It doesn't matter.
05:2624 points of regulation.
05:27That's still not a great unit.
05:28I think Lamar will have his way.
05:29It's a little bit harder to trust Lamar if he doesn't have Zake Flowers.
05:32For now, we are ranking Lamar Jackson as if Zake Flowers is going to play.
05:36That puts him as the number two quarterback on my board.
05:38I would reconsider and go to Purdy if we knew for sure
05:42that Zake Flowers was out.
05:44By the way, what's the latest on Nico Collins?
05:46He dinged his hammy in practice yesterday.
05:49It sounds like week two is in jeopardy.
05:52That's according to a report.
05:54I don't think it's a long-term deal.
05:55But obviously, if you've got Nico Collins and DJ Moore,
05:59DJ Moore plays Thursday night.
06:01You're going to start DJ Moore.
06:02If you've got Nico Collins and Jamison Williams,
06:04you're starting Jamison Williams because you're just not sure about Nico Collins.
06:07And if you don't have those specific quandaries,
06:09but you've got Nico Collins,
06:10you better go to your waiver wire and see who you can find.
06:13Devon Vele would be the top name that I would look for if the waiver wire.
06:15He's probably gone in a lot of leagues already.
06:18I was kind of intrigued by the role that Kendrick Bourne had for the Cardinals last week.
06:22It's that short area slot guy for them.
06:25I think they're going to be trailing against Seattle.
06:27The way the Seahawks play defense,
06:28they want the quarterback to take the short throws.
06:31And those are going to be routes that Kendrick Bourne is going to get.
06:34So if you're really in a pinch, hold your nose and start Kendrick Bourne.

06:46You've got two spots.
06:48I know he's injured, but he's questionable.
06:51McConkie, Watson, and Putin.
06:54I would get ready to sit McConkie.
06:57I'd be a little surprised if he plays.
06:59That was a really ugly ball that Justin Herbert threw to him.
07:01Herbert had a bad game in week one.
07:04And we saw just all the potential in the world in Christian Watson last season,
07:07and it came into fruition this week.
07:09I think the Packers are going to be one of those teams that doesn't have a good defense,
07:13has a suspect run game, and that might even be the case
07:15when you know who comes back in the middle of the season.
07:17And that just means that they're going to throw a lot,
07:19and that means the numbers are going to be there for Jordan Love.
07:21The numbers are going to be there for Matthew Golden,
07:22but they'll really be there for Christian Watson,
07:25who can make big plays happen just as he did on his 81-yard touchdown last week.
07:29And you saw what the Chiefs running game did against Denver.
07:31I would imagine that the Broncos will shore up their tackling
07:34and be better against the run this week.
07:36But Basial Tootin, as of now, if McConkie practices and plays,
07:39you're starting him over Tootin.
07:40But I would prepare for Tootin to be your number two option there.

07:55I like both my quarterbacks, just not this week.
07:58If you're at Goff on a short week on the road in that stadium tonight,
08:01just got a nervous feeling that he's not going to be able to get a whole lot done.

08:04Would you play Tyler Shaw over him?
08:07Yeah.
08:08I know you talked about him with Cakes question.
08:10Yes.
08:11And I would start a lot of quarterbacks over him.
08:13Not only Shaw, but Jordan Love, Matthew Stafford, Baker Mayfield.
08:17Baker Mayfield's taking on Cleveland.
08:18That team is really a mess right now.
08:20The thing that really makes me nervous about Goff,
08:22it's not playing on the road.
08:23It's not playing on a Thursday.
08:25He's down now three starting offensive linemen
08:28when you consider the offseason acquisition of Caden Mays.
08:31And then last week, both their left guard and their right tackle got banged up.
08:34And now neither one of them is going to play in this game against Buffalo.
08:36And it's not that Buffalo's pass rusher defense is daunting.
08:39But any time Jared Goff has had an inferior offensive line
08:43and there's pressure on him,
08:44and this happened as recently as last week,
08:46his numbers have tanked.
08:48And he had one touchdown last week when he was pressured.
08:50He actually did a great job navigating the pocket through a red zone touchdown.
08:53It's Amon Ross-St. Brown.
08:54But other than that, he was two of six passing.
08:57The Saints couldn't pressure him a lot because their pass rush isn't that good.
09:00I think Buffalo's pass rush is better.
09:02I am nervous about Jared Goff this weekend.
09:04And let's face it, he kind of got lucky with Jared Goff in week one
09:07because he only gave you 20 fantasy points.
09:09He didn't have a ton of yardage.
09:11He should have had a bigger game,
09:12but Jamison Williams had a big drop
09:14and just the offense was a little clunky in the first half.
09:17All right, let's go to Scott in Alexandria.

09:23Hey, Dave, got a half PPR, need 204.
09:27Evans, Tootin, Price, or Aaron Jones?
09:33Evans is the lock.
09:34And I believe, as of right now, I've got Tootin ahead of Aaron Jones,
09:39but I'm going to revisit that today.
09:40And it just makes sense.
09:42Aaron Jones against Chicago, I think I'm going to say Aaron Jones here.
09:45We know that Jordan Mason's out for at least the next four games.
09:47He's got a fractured thumb.
09:48But I think Aaron Jones takes on a lot more work.
09:52And I would expect him to at least be the rushing downs back for Minnesota.
09:57I don't think he'll be the full-time back.
09:58Minnesota kind of gave us a clue when they promoted DJ Dallas from the practice squad.
10:03And that's a guy who can play on passing downs or at least third downs.
10:05And so I think that in a game that should be high scoring,
10:08I think the Minnesota offense is pretty good.
10:10I think the Bears defense isn't very good.
10:11I think we can see Aaron Jones get some decent numbers.

10:40And the Vikings defense really came alive in the second half,

10:48Caleb Williams looked outstanding against Carolina.
10:49And I know it's Carolina.
10:51But I still think that Caleb Williams just has way too much upside.
