00:01It sounded like an earthquake. That's how locals described the collapse of a six-storey
00:06building in Gaza on Wednesday that killed at least 21 people, including eight children.
00:11Locals say the building had been leaning dangerously to one side after an Israeli strike more than
00:16a year ago. Dozens are still missing as locals say around ten displaced families have been
00:21living inside.
00:23We recovered five and five others remain under the rubble. The building is full of
00:28people. This is all because there is no space in Gaza City available to live in. So they
00:33lived in this building. This building is collapsed. There are still people under the rubble. Only
00:38God knows if they are alive or dead. The situation is difficult still.
00:43Rescue efforts have started to find survivors amongst the rubble, but officials say progress
00:48is slow due to a lack of equipment. The civil defence agency in Gaza said they've started
00:53using their bare hands.
00:55International organisations have called on Israeli authorities to approve deliveries
00:58to Gaza of heavy machinery for these kinds of operations. There has been no reconstruction
01:03work since the ceasefire was agreed almost a year ago. Israel claims the restrictions are
01:07currently in place to stop armed groups using the machinery for military purposes.
01:12Meanwhile, more than 80% of Gaza's structures have been destroyed, with the UN warning that
01:16it could take more than seven years to clear the rubble, and that's with the right conditions.
