00:01All you have to do is challenge both leaders and defeat them.
00:05Vesa Claw is a sci-fi superhero character who grew up on a different planet.
00:09But when his parents were executed and he was saved by a queen, he became a prince in a new
00:14world.
00:15Creator of the story and character, Ansel Harris, tells us more about the plot of the movie.
00:20So for this movie of Vesa Claw, he has to go and reunite his people now.
00:26So he has a people named the Claw Clan and in order for them to win a bigger war that
00:31is coming,
00:31he has to go now and unite all the people that were scattered.
00:35So that is basically the plot.
00:37But it wouldn't really be easy for him because he hasn't been there in years.
00:41So a lot of the traditions change and stuff like that.
00:45And a lot of people don't really believe in what it is he's doing.
00:49So that is the big challenge for him.
00:51Harris likens his creation to Jerry Siegel's Superman with both heroes being stoic characters
00:57who possess a passion for saving persons and just get the job done.
01:02But where did the idea for this character come from?
01:05So since I was like two years old, I actually created this character, Vesa Claw.
01:09And over the years, you know, it was just like in comic form in drawings and stuff like that.
01:14And when I get into filmmaking, I decided like, hey, you know what, I should really bring this character to
01:21life.
01:22Harris's passion for his creation and his filmmaking is what led him to push through the project.
01:27He tells TV6 that lack of funding is one of the major hurdles faced by local filmmakers,
01:33including himself, as the Vesa Claw project was self-funded.
01:36And he was full of praise for the team of persons he's worked with for getting him through the project.
01:42Funding was out of pocket. It's just passion.
01:46I was fortunate to have a good team around to work with me as well, too,
01:52in terms of the casting, in terms of the cast, in terms of costume design,
01:57helping the location, helping with shooting and different aspects.
02:01But it was really, really a team effort.
02:03He also had special praise for his cast, whose belief kept him inspired.
02:07The lead actors, Jumel James, we have Vanessa Sunil and we have Charlie Griffin.
02:13They have been wonderful. They have been working with me since 2020.
02:18And, you know, they really dedicated to their work.
02:21They're really passionate and they really believe in the project.
02:26Harris says he's been fortunate to work with some of the best locally
02:29and he's very grateful for all that they have taught him, which enabled him to find his own style.
02:35One of the guys that I shadow, his name was Terence James.
02:39He came from the U.S. with a lot of knowledge.
02:42So he was one of the persons that I really shadow in doing filmmaking.
02:46And the next one is Errol Fabian.
02:48I worked along with Errol Fabian for years and he taught me a lot of things,
02:53how to do, how to tell stories, how to shoot from different angles and stuff like that.
02:57So those two is who, you know, I really picked up from.
03:01He also draws inspiration from some of the biggest names internationally.
03:05I think Christopher Nolan is one of the big names.
03:09Zack Snyder. I like his style. James Cameron.
03:13You know, these are some of the few filmmakers that actually did things differently, you know,
03:19and bring their own style and their own unique way of telling their story.
03:25So that is some of the directors that I get up to.
03:28For now, Ansel Harris makes do with renting studio spaces
03:31and utilising the resources he has to do his productions.
03:34But he has hopes of owning his own studio one day.
