00:00Yeah, let's get into the obvious opener here. Kansas City, I mean, they didn't just sneak past Denver in a
00:08week one matchup. I mean, they absolutely clobbered the defending AFC West champions and they controlled basically every important statistical
00:18category.
00:19I mean, you go to the total yards, they dominated. They had close to 400 total yards. They had 19
00:26first downs to Denver's nine. They were nine of 16 on third down where Denver was two of 12. And
00:34again, this is a Chiefs team, John, that is coming off of a six and 11 season. It was kind
00:40of stunning, right? And it's first missed postseason since 2014.
00:45And Denver went 14 and three last year and they took that AFC West crown last year. They're kind of
00:50feel like they're starting to build this kind of new era with Bo Nix and Sean Payton. Obviously, Bo Nix
00:56got hurt last year at the end of the year, as did Patrick Mahomes. He came back really early, started
01:02week one. It looked like Kansas City, John, was telling the division like, hey, we're taking this thing back. What
01:10do you think?
01:12I thought tonight, Kansas City made a statement that this is a different, you're about to see a different version
01:19of this team. I was talking about this earlier with Josh before we came on the show.
01:24What tonight looked like is when the Denver Broncos got Terrell Davis to partner with John Elway. That's what this
01:32looked like tonight.
01:34Kenneth Walker's running ability. And then I didn't get wind of it until the NFC championship game last year. And
01:41then he did it again in a Super Bowl. And the way he ran tonight, if he can run like
01:46that for 10 to 12 games this season, by the time you get past November, the Chiefs are probably going
01:54to be unbeatable.
01:55Because Patrick Mahomes looked awful tonight. But Patrick Mahomes is coming off a massive knee surgery.
02:02Patrick Mahomes is coming off of something that usually takes a year and a half for guys to feel normal.
02:09And he looked like that. But the fact that they ran the ball four straight times out of the gate
02:13kind of told you, this is what we're doing for now.
02:16I thought the thing that told the truth about what Kansas City is going to be is the fact that
02:21Eric Bietemi is now back calling plays.
02:23Yeah, they got Matt Nagy as far away from Patrick Mahomes as they possibly could.
02:29I thought they was going to need a restraining order, but they didn't. So they got they got Matt Nagy
02:33far away.
02:35They got somebody in there who really knows him and can just call it like he sees it without fearing
02:40some type of, you know, anxiety or or or or feeling some type of energy from Mahomes that he just
02:48kowtows.
02:50BNB is going to call it like what's best for the team. And that's what you saw tonight, man.
02:54Those runs were vicious to start the game. And they set a precedent that really drove through the game.
03:00That's a good Denver defense. Yeah, that's a good Denver defense.
03:04And Kenneth Walker and that offensive line tore it up. Jump cuts. And when he didn't jump cut, he was
03:09running right over people.
03:11And so guys don't want to tackle like that for four quarters.
03:14And as you see, by the time they got to the third quarter, everybody started missing tackles on Denver.
03:19Yeah. And so the Chiefs rookies had good nights. One had a pick. Another one had a touchdown.
03:24Another one had a sack. And so the defense that I thought was going to look old, look very energetic,
03:30look like they were getting after it.
03:32And the question was, what would Patrick Mahomes look like? And Patrick Mahomes looked rough, but he was able to
03:39find spots like the long throw to count the short throw that went long to Kelsey.
03:43And he had a couple of the short throws that went long that made the statistics look good at the
03:47end of the day.
03:48But tonight was about Kenneth Walker.
03:50Yeah, I think you hit it on the head when you said it looked like a different version of the
03:55Chiefs.
03:56It wasn't the same Chiefs that we've seen, you know, air the ball out all the time.
04:02And, you know, Eric Bien-Ami obviously went through a couple of bad years away from the Chiefs, right?
04:07He struggled himself. And now he's back where he feels comfortable, where Andy Reid feels comfortable, where Patrick Mahomes feels
04:14comfortable.
04:14I mean, shoot, even Travis Kelsey, I felt like, had a pretty decent game. He had a long run that
04:19almost scored, too.
04:20But do you think that Denver looked unprepared?
04:24I feel like we've seen a lot of teams come out looking unprepared.
04:27Denver. Don't say that. Don't say that. Because you're going to make me mad.
04:31I've been saying this. We're on our second day now.
04:34Preseason?
04:35This is a preseason effect.
04:36There it is.
04:37You didn't get anything out of Bo Nix in a preseason.
04:40The Broncos didn't do anything with their starters in a preseason.
04:43And so when you get out here with a young quarterback, young parts around him,
04:47you add Jaden Waddle in there, who's supposed to be a new addition.
04:51This is how it's going to look for the first couple of weeks,
04:53because now these guys are trying to get acclimated to playing full games.
04:56If you notice in a lot of these games, most of these players died off in the second half.
05:01Most of the really bad play began in the second half, because most of them are gassed.
05:06Most of them are winded.
05:07Now, if you got the lead, most home teams, by the way, in the second half are able to push
05:12through.
05:12But look at Dallas last night.
05:14The second half, the road team, gassed.
05:17Look at the Chiefs tonight, second half.
05:20Firing on all cylinders.
05:22They got the lead there at home.
05:23And so the fact that the Broncos did nothing with their starters in the preseason,
05:27their rhythm looked bad.
05:29Again, Bo Nix off of an injury, which I thought he would be, it would look rough for him tonight.
05:33He had trouble handling the ball.
05:35It was just a, it was a rough night for Bo Nix.
05:38And I, and again, I don't think this is going to change how people do things in the preseason,
05:41but you're just sacrificing wins to start the season that come back to bite you at the end of the
05:45year.
