00:00All right, let's now cut across to the big developing political story that we're tracking very closely.
00:04The BJP has now set a deadline of 2029 for rolling out the Uniform Civil Code across all BJP-NDA
00:12ruled states, 22 of them.
00:14But the big UCC push has already exposed a fault line within the NDA.
00:18While Amit Shah calls UCC the BJP's next major ideological commitment after Article 370,
00:24many of its allies are now expressing apprehension even though supporting the move in Parliament.
00:31You have the JDU which has rejected its implementation in the state.
00:35Even the LJP and Chirag Paswan has also sought wider consultation.
00:40Here's the full report.
00:59The BJP's big Uniform Civil Code push has now opened a fresh fault line within the NDA.
01:06Prime Minister Amit Shah has set a clear deadline, saying the UCC will be implemented in all 21 BJP-NDA
01:14ruled states before the 2029 Lok Sabha elections.
01:19We have introduced the common civil code UCC in all 21 BJP-NDA ruled states before the 2029 people.
01:34For the BJP, UCC is the next big ideological commitment after the abrogation of Article 370.
01:43But what exactly does the Uniform Civil Code propose?
01:47A common set of rules for marriage, divorce, inheritance and succession irrespective of religion.
01:53A common code is already implemented in Uttarakhand.
01:58UCC proposes a ban on polygamy.
02:01Common minimum marriage age of 21 for men and 18 for women.
02:05Marriages below the legal age not allowed.
02:08Common rules for inheritance and succession with equal property rights for men and women.
02:14Mandatory registration of live-in relationships.
02:17Scheduled tribes have been exempted from its application.
02:21But the BJP's push for uniformity has now exposed differences within its own alliance.
02:27And the first note of dissent has come from Bihar.
02:31JDO General Secretary Shyam Rajak has flatly rejected the idea of UCC being implemented in Bihar.
03:05JDO General Secretary Shyam Rajak.
03:08National working president, Sanjay Jha, is set to meet Amit Shah to put the party's position on record.
03:15Another key ally and union minister, Chirag Paswan, has also called for consultation.
03:21The LJP RV chief says India's social fabric is diverse and has sought the UCC draft be made public,
03:30followed by extensive discussion with all stakeholders.
03:33His party, he says, will take opposition only after this process.
03:38But several other NDA allies have backed Shah's push.
03:42TDP, Shiv Seda and Jitin Maji's H.A.M. have extended unconditional support for the UCC.
03:49So Amit Shah may have set 2029 as the deadline,
03:53but the road to the Uniform Civil Code is already facing questions within the NDA.
03:59BJP is no longer battling just opposition resistance.
04:03It is also having to navigate differences among its own allies.
