00:00Late on Sunday, Steve Ballmer just made a basically a major statement regarding this Clippers investigation.
00:09He has now said that the Clippers will comply with the NBA's punishment rather than pursue legal action, which we've
00:18talked about over the course of these past couple of weeks when the punishment dropped.
00:23Initially, there was a massive book of a letter sent to the NBA's commissioner, Adam Silver, by Steve Ballmer that
00:30basically said everything against what the rulings were.
00:34We're going to fight this. We're going to pursue litigation and all this different stuff.
00:39And the Clippers team statement said that, that they're going to fight this, that it's inaccurate, that all these different
00:44denied it since the first kind of inception of this.
00:48Well, Steve Ballmer finally gave in, and I think it's the right decision.
00:52I really do believe this is the right decision.
00:54Back in 2000, when the Timberwolves were caught doing this, they complied with the NBA.
01:00They said, yes, we did it. Whatever you guys need to do, we'll work through it.
01:04The NBA gave them back two of those five picks that they were docked.
01:08And I feel like the Clippers had no other avenue here.
01:11They couldn't fight this in litigation. They couldn't take it to court and fight it, really.
01:16So what other avenue are you going to seek? You have to accept this and move on.
01:20You have to just move on from this. Know what you did wrong. Apologize to the fans.
01:25This is, by the way, John, the first statement to the fans by the Clippers since this whole thing happened.
01:32And finally, Clippers fans have clarity, but what are your thoughts?
01:36You just watched one of the richest men in the world be held accountable.
01:40And so he did what a rich person with money normally would do.
01:44They yell, they scream, they threaten.
01:47But when there's no other thing to do other than comply, they comply, just like everybody else.
01:55Because you are beholden to the rules in which the organization in which you operate in.
02:03You broke the rules. They caught you breaking the rules.
02:07And you have to pay the penalty.
02:09And as a rich person who can usually get what he wants, he can stick a lawyer on someone or
02:14a cease and desist.
02:15Or, you know, in a business world, there are ways for him to get around this.
02:18But in this particular situation, I think they let him get it.
02:23They let him get all this out of his system.
02:25And then they said, call us in a week. Call us in a couple of weeks.
02:29We'll call you. We'll call you when you calm down.
02:32And he calmed down. He talked to the right people.
02:35And they just said, all right, you cool now?
02:38Now, you be cool. You'll get some of those picks back, man.
02:40Like, chill out. Like, we caught you. It's over.
02:43I really think this is what happened.
02:45Again, I don't have any inside information on this.
02:47But I think this is what happened.
02:48They let him calm down.
02:50And they said, hey, man, just be cool.
02:52Stay low. We'll get you some of these picks back, man.
02:55And all this will be, you know, water under the bridge in a little bit.
02:59Don't worry about it.
03:01But you got to eat this.
03:02You got to eat this.
03:03And we'll give you something back when no one's looking.
03:06Because nobody even remembered that the Timberwolves got those picks back.
03:10Nobody's going to remember we gave you these picks back, man.
03:13Just be cool.
03:14We won't talk about it.
03:15You don't talk about it.
03:17And it'll go away.
03:18The Bears had 59 points today.
03:20Go ahead and put this.
03:22Football started, man.
03:23Go ahead and put this press release out.
03:25You know, apologize to the fans.
03:26They put it out on Sunday Night Football, which is so interesting.
03:31Listen, listen.
03:32Because the only people who really care about this at this point today are them Clipper fans.
03:36Yeah.
03:36Now that they've been fed, they understand.
03:39As a Clipper fan, thank you for speaking to us.
03:42We still support you.
03:43We still support the team.
03:45But now we're going to go back to the game.
03:47Yeah.
03:48And that's it.
03:49That's it.
03:50That's it.
03:51And I think, listen, like I said, I think this is the best option for them.
03:57Dude, you guys did it.
03:58It's okay.
03:58It's okay to admit that.
04:00And for me with the Rams, I remember the night we did the Rams thing, I was losing my mind.
04:06I blew a head gasket, right, in card terms.
04:08It was awesome.
04:09Now, listen, I'm still mad about it.
04:12But it's like, dude, there's 16 weeks left.
04:13There's 17 weeks left.
04:15All right.
04:15You just figured it out.
04:17You saw some other teams playing.
04:18You went, no, we all right.
04:20That's what you did.
04:21You saw some other teams play.
04:23No, because everyone in the NFC West is that 1-0.
04:26The Rams are in last.
04:27I should be even more upset.
04:29The Cardinals.
04:30You watched a couple minutes of them Browns game.
04:33And you went, no, we ain't that bad.
04:35We all right.
04:36Jaguars, Browns.
04:37Yeah.
04:37Ooh.
04:38What an awesome matchup.
04:39Titans-Jets is also awesome, too, by the way.
04:41You guys missed a lot.
04:44I couldn't tell the difference between Deshaun Watson and the Titans quarterback.
04:51They look like twins.
04:52Yeah.
04:53Yeah, they look like twins out there, boy.
04:55But in any case, listen.
04:57I think there are several possibilities where the Clippers probably stopped fighting this.
05:02I mean, the legal battle would have been too expensive and distracting.
05:06They would have exposed more internal documents if you went too far.
05:11There wasn't really a realistic path into overturning any of these penalties.
05:15They got caught, and the league told what they needed to tell to expose them for cheating.
05:20They didn't lay everything bare.
05:22And this is what they probably told him after he calmed down.
05:25No?
