00:38Halston Frawick sadly passed away, better known in the world of fashion simply as Halston.

25:29You know, we use the Oxford Dictionary online here.
25:32And they have a blog which is full of lots of nice, fascinating research on language.
25:37It's free, and you can just browse through it at your will.
25:40And they probably have something quite recently, which is on place name idioms.
25:44And I've covered before a lot of personal names that appear in our English expressions.
25:49But place names appear quite often, too, some of which I've covered, like when in Rome, etc.
25:54I'm just going to whiz through a few of the ones that they covered in the Oxford blog.
25:57And the first is sent to Coventry.
26:00This sending somebody to Coventry is basically ostracizing them, or at least leaving them in the cold and not speaking
26:06to them.
26:07And it goes back, probably, to the Civil War and to the soldiers that were sent there, the royalist soldiers
26:17that were sent there and imprisoned there,
26:19because Coventry was traditionally a parliamentary stronghold.
26:21So the idea of being sent to Coventry is being sent to somewhere where you would be incredibly unpopular.
26:26Carry coals to Newcastle. Fairly transparent, this one, but the idea is that it's sending something to a place that
26:34already has that particular commodity and plentiful supply.
26:37And certainly Newcastle had history of being particularly productive in exporting coal.
26:43And Timbuktu. I was quite surprised by this one.
26:46Timbuktu is actually a real place. It's in West Africa, in Malian.
26:49It's been used for centuries, actually, as the most remote, distant place that you can possibly think of.
