00:00It may be a quarter century since the 9-11 attacks took place, but have the lessons of that day
00:06really been learned?
00:07The United States is still supporting the likes of Osama bin Laden around the world.
00:11Let's recall how Hillary Clinton admitted that the United States supported the Mujahideen to fight the Soviet Union.
00:18The people we are fighting today, we funded 20 years ago.
00:23And we did it because we were locked in this struggle with the Soviet Union.
00:27They invaded Afghanistan, and we did not want to see them control Central Asia, and we went to work.
00:37And it was President Reagan in partnership with the Congress, led by Democrats.
00:43And this is something that Hillary Clinton was not lying about.
00:46America's president, Ronald Reagan, rubbed shoulders with this band of terrorists armed by America.
00:54All of us are privileged to have in our midst tonight one of the brave commanders who lead the Afghan
00:59freedom fighters, Abdul Haq.
01:01And then we said, great, goodbye, leaving these trained people who were fanatical in Afghanistan and Pakistan, leaving them well
01:11-armed, creating a mess, frankly.
01:14Eventually, a wealthy young Saudi, known as Osama bin Laden, joined the Mujahideen in 1979.
01:22He built up a network of fighters throughout the region known as al-Qaeda.
01:26All of that led to 9-11.
01:283,000 people killed, thousands more injured.
01:32It is the most deadly act of terrorism in our modern history.
01:36Washington would go on to use terrorists against the Syrian government and its president, Bashar al-Assad.
01:42In 2012, a message was sent to Hillary Clinton by State Department policy planner Jake Sullivan, in which he told
01:50her that al-Qaeda was, quote, on our side.
01:54Now, at that point, we had Washington going on to give a special designation to Muhammad al-Julani.
02:02He was the leader of an extension of Islamic State known as the al-Nusra Front.
02:06They designated him as a special kind of global terrorist.
02:10They even put a $10 million bounty on his head.
02:14And there's a catch.
02:15Now that the Syrian Arab Republic has fallen, we've got al-Julani as its new leader.
02:22He's now known as Ahmad al-Shara, and he has Donald Trump's brotherly love.
02:27After 9-11, everybody knew about Osama bin Laden, the almost Hollywood-esque villain who was blamed for the attacks.
02:35However, given everything that's gone on since then, was the price paid by the 9-11 victims really worth it?
02:43Let's remember that we've heard Donald Trump actually blame the Democrats, it seems, for the fact that a split from
02:50al-Qaeda is now known as ISIS.
02:53I was very responsible for the gentleman at Syria that's now the president of Syria.
02:58He's done a tremendous job.
03:00He's put that country together in a year and a half.
03:03Sort of like our country, a year and a half is pretty similar size.
03:06They said, please don't put him there.
03:08He's a very violent man.
03:10Al-Qaeda.
03:11I said, well, I know one thing.
03:13A Boy Scout's not going to work.
03:15And he's actually done a very good job.
03:17For Americans, 9-11 is a tragedy seared into the memory of a collective soul.
03:23But for politicians, terrorism is a tool that is far too useful to be buried with the victims.
03:29And every anniversary is a reminder of this pattern.
