00:06what's good everybody welcome back to another edition of straight out of flushing it is dexter
00:10with my guy tyler ward subway series round two weekend is upon us here in september should be
00:19an interesting one a lot going into this subway series you have obviously the backdrop of 9-11
00:24for the friday game all the ceremonies that is going to be around that the 25th anniversary
00:29of 9-11 and then the mets and yankees will also play some baseball three games this weekend
00:34interesting subway series tyler because the mets and yankees are in very different directions but
00:41obviously us doing a met show we're going to talk about things from the mets side of things so for
00:47you what's the most intriguing thing for you with the mets this weekend into this subway series what's
00:54what are you most intrigued about most intrigue i think is a good question because there's a couple
01:00different layers that go into the subway series typically between the mets and the yankees and
01:05every year it always has a level of excitement with it in ways that you don't typically get
01:09from regular season games so i would probably just start with the overall atmosphere is what i'm you
01:14know really excited about especially with being there this weekend for the series finale um to give
01:19you guys coverage here at the post i just there's something about how it doesn't matter where the
01:25mets or the yankees are at in the standing however single time that they play each other it feels like
01:30it's a playoff environment and that's exactly what i'm expecting this weekend as the mets are continuing
01:35to play spoiler right now after obviously sweeping the miami marlins we obviously see a team like the
01:40boston red sox that continues to go neck and neck with the yankees you know i wonder how much will
01:45that
01:45factor in for the mets this time around with trying to play spoiler a bit more uh but all in
01:49all it's
01:50the atmosphere above all and yankees and mets fans coming together no matter how much they love or hate
01:55each other uh to appreciate this great game so you know it's funny when they've changed the schedule
02:01right they've changed some things with the subway series right there are times we only we had six games
02:05and we had four games and now you have this series in september which is something i actually like
02:10because if there is meaningful baseball on both sides it adds even more intrigue now it'd be nice
02:16if this series was a situation with the yankees looking playoff bound the nets looking playoff round
02:21i think that would add more intrigue i am intrigued about what you just said do mets fans still care

02:29much in playing spoiler here to the yankees i would say yes i think they do right like i think
02:34they do um
02:36will we still see a lot of mets fans making the trip to the bronx for this i think so
02:43i think likely
02:43i'm very intrigued to see what the crowd will look like um you know the yankee fans will be in
02:47there
02:48you still have the juan soto drama in it i don't know about you warty but i am still
02:54maybe somewhat surprised from what i see and i granted social media so you know it's your own curated
03:00list of what who you follow and who you interact with and stuff like that but i see a lot
03:04of talk from
03:05yankee fans still about juan soto and the juan soto-ness of it all still hovers over this right
03:10yankee fans are still very salty about this i spoke with the yankee fan yesterday yeah i talked to you
03:15shortly after i talked to you yesterday we had a chat on the phone and yankee fans is still a
03:19sore
03:20spot for them in a way that i didn't think it would be do you expect some of the back
03:26and
03:26forth the vitriol maybe from the yankee fans the mets fans kind of puffing out the chest about the
03:31fact that god soto the mets haven't done anything since then it does that all make
03:37this interesting in a series that you know it's not like both teams have a lot to play for the
03:42yankees do but the mets don't the backdrop of it still makes it interesting right the only reason why
03:48it's still interesting is because yankees fans can't get over it i mean let's just start there
03:52this is the one that got away for yankees fans it's not only the one that got away it's the
03:56one that got
03:57away to the crosstown rival which almost never happens if we look at history between the mets and
04:01the yankees since the inception the mets being a thing obviously so that alone is what they're still
04:07cleaning on to added with the fact that yankees fans haven't been as satisfied with the status of
04:12organization since soto left as well i mean that's something that people tend to forget right think
04:17about the run that soto had with judge and with the yankees and how far they were able to go
04:22with
04:23the team that obviously still had its fundamental flaws you know since then they have not been able
04:27to necessarily replace and of course you can't replace juan soto but they really have not been able
04:32to replace soto in various aspects you know of course the blossoming of ben rice has been massive
04:37for them this season so you can make that argument of course but when looking as an overall talent as
04:42someone who you know you can depend on night in and night out there's a reason why soto is getting
04:47paid the big bucks so this is very much a lopsided affair heading in the weekend because this is only
04:52a spectacle or becoming a thing regarding soto because of yankees fans making it that way you know
04:57it's not like soto was a new york yankee for a decade a homegrown town and then he leaves for
05:02a
05:02crosstown rival the yanks were just the next pit stop and a location where he was never going to be
05:08going
05:08back if he was not getting paid the top dollar in the end that's why he turned down over
05:12400 million dollars in his final year with the washington nationals before being traded the
05:16padres because at the end of the day the emphasis was always about hitting the market it had nothing
05:21to do about where exactly he was prior to that yeah there's clearly some some feelings about it i
05:28even think i saw somebody tweet out that you know soto's home run i believe that was against the
05:33guardians a couple years ago great at bat hit great at bat one of the best of bats i've ever
05:38seen
05:39and oh he'll never reach this high with the mets and there's still that talk that's there if you're
05:45right it's a sore spot the yankee fans seem not i don't want to say all yankee fans some yankee
05:49fans
05:50i know seem to have not let go um but it's fine that you know they're playoff bound the mets
05:56are not
05:56let's look at the matchup this weekend warty because you mentioned that the mets came into the
06:01series they're playing some really good baseball they're playing some spirited baseball and they're
06:06winning uh they played spoiler to the marlins i know that's got to feel good although mets fans
06:10would like to see that happen when it actually counts that would be nice as well too where do
06:15you think with the way the mets are playing is there any way they could give the yankees some
06:19problems this weekend do you expect this to be a competitive series oh of course i do i mean just
06:25what i stated earlier it doesn't matter where the mets or the yankees around the standings they
06:28always have entertaining series for one the fans are showing up and it has that electric
06:33playoff type atmosphere i think of you know moderzario having a big bomb to help secure i
06:38believe the series victory and i want to say it was a walk-off fashion during the pandemic in 2020
06:43i think of dom smith and pete alonzo having big moments at yankee stadium i think of everything
06:48that's happened including the mets success against the yankees earlier this year as well
06:52or you know former friend no longer with us and luke lever now that he's a pirate came in for
06:56brooks
06:57raley who simply cannot get out of his own mess carson benches looking like castillo in the outfield
07:02not making the catch dropping the ball and then weaver comes in and mows them down his former club
07:07across roughly two innings you know i was there for that game so there's endless examples of the
07:12mets showing that they can absolutely go toe-to-toe with the yankees regardless as to where they stand
07:17otherwise across major league baseball the mets have had the upper hand over the yankees
07:21or the past couple years as a matter of fact too so for the yankees they have to take this
07:25series with
07:25the utmost seriousness because every game is vitally important for them as they continue their playoff
07:30you know battling it out against teams like the red sox into the degree of the rays etc so for
07:35the
07:35mets here you know when you look at how they're matching up this weekend and things we'll be
07:39looking forward to with the young horses out in the rotation and thornton mcclain and scott
07:44to obviously the blossomings of carson bench this year and the continued dominance of soto abobe
07:51who has now found himself a francisco and door who's most certainly found more of a swing here in the
07:56second half this is going to be i think a quite the battle and a series that is going to
08:01leave
08:02every baseball fan that cares about i think the spectacle that comes with the subway series um i
08:08think they're going to come out satisfied for sure i hope so i i really hope so i i think
08:13all this makes
08:13me think about it'll be nice to have one of these in september where there's stakes to go back to
08:19what i
08:19said i really would like to see them have stakes in a september subway series matchup and you know
08:25what it's been a long time it's been a long time since the year 2000 when these teams met in
08:29the
08:29world series did not go the way the mets fans would like to but if you were here if you
08:35were around for
08:36that man that was a that was a good time in new york man good vibes good vibes with the
08:41ments and
08:41yankees going at it in the subway series can't believe that's that long though that's crazy
08:46exactly you know you know how long ago that was you're 20 you're you're about to say something
08:53that's going to make me feel old and i know it right now and you're going to tell me that
08:57was so
08:58long ago that you weren't born is that what you know i would no i i was i was an
09:02i was a new millennium
09:03baby i was born but i was i was freshly born it was right right right into it yeah that
09:08that's what
09:09so see what wardy still made me feel old because wardy's like i don't remember it
09:14i was there but i don't remember it at all at all whatsoever yeah hey well let me ask you
09:20this
09:20as some you know this is a good good question to ask you as somebody who didn't see it but
09:26has grown
09:26up a mets fan and understands the inner city rivalry and you just talked about how there's always juice
09:33no matter what the stakes are how badly would you like to see a subway world series oh i would
09:39love to
09:39see a subway world series especially because the fact that you know a subway series world series
09:44because i have friends in the yankees community naturally as well obviously i have so many mets
09:48fans and followers i think we just not only bring the city further together but it would be it would
09:53be a madhouse it'd be a zoo but in the most fun and entertaining way possible and don't get me
09:58wrong
09:58depending on how that series would conclude would really dictate how i would feel walking around the
10:03city for a bit obviously is it going to become completely yankees town again where it's to the point that
10:08you know if i have a mets head out at any point i'm just people are going to talk smack
10:11me right away
10:11or would it become a wave of a mets town where we haven't obviously seen since 86 where you know
10:16yankees fans are still fine to do their thing but for once for finally for the first time in forever
10:21mets fans can rejoice and come together and kind of take over the city i would love it i absolutely
10:26would
10:26especially now that you know i've been fortunate enough to be working with you here and all these great
10:30people at the post um seeing what that environment would be like as someone who is in the city more
10:35often um than i ever have been before in my life um is definitely something that i would appreciate
10:39and hope to see come to fruition at some point in my lifetime the way that it happened you know

10:45years ago now see now now i want to see it for you man now now i want that to
10:49happen for you i want
10:50i want you to see it you mentioned um the young players for the mets mets are gonna we're gonna
10:55see
10:56we talked about these guys a lot they're three young pitchers we're gonna see nolan mcclain we're
10:59gonna see zach thornton we're gonna see christian scott start in this series what do you think
11:05what are you most interested i'll say in seeing from those guys this weekend pitching starting in
11:12the subway series with all the energy that's going to be around it the mets aren't going to play october
11:16baseball maybe this is the close they come to it this year that might feel like that in some way
11:21especially do you think this is a valuable experience for these young guys playing in the series
11:26absolutely i mean you can make the argument that especially with guys like zach thornton and
11:30christian scott this could be the biggest pressure cooker of a situation that they've ever been a
11:34part of in their young professional careers now you may say to that as a counter someone watching this
11:38hat what do you mean by that warty how does that make sense and the simple answer is it's about
11:42the
11:42atmosphere it's about the environment it's about the intensity of what these games mean especially to
11:46the yankees as to what they mean for the mets as well who are trying to finish their season strong
11:50for mcclain obviously he's in this mix too but there's a there's a difference because i feel like no
11:55one has already been thrown into the fire a bit more we think of the mets push for playoffs down
11:59the stretch last year obviously right thornton was out with injury from june onward in the minor league
12:03so he wasn't even an option christian scott was still rehabbing returning from his reconstructive
12:08tommy john surgery so no one was the only one that we kind of saw right from the jump thrown
12:12into the
12:12fire we've seen him handle that in stride without much issue if not any issue as he's one of the
12:17better
12:17starters in all the national league this season so for zach especially he's coming off of arguably his
12:21worst start of his career to which he um had quite the reaction of buzzing his head right away
12:26as a response to have the gorgeous hair and everything and said nope we're gonna buzz this
12:31thing right off as as his superstitious self i'd assume i went down that route and scott we all
12:37know has the stuff but how can he handle you know a yankee lineup obviously would judge back in the
12:41fold
12:42and them doing everything in their power to try to take down the mats in that minimum two games out
12:46of
12:46three this is gonna be a great test for these guys and regardless as to what the result is this
12:50is a
12:51fantastic experience for them especially when we bear in mind as to what is happening tonight
12:55specifically and remembering 9-11 yeah no i think it's a huge test for these guys i'm very intrigued
13:01to see how they pitch look is it i know somebody's getting you know and that's why you brought the
13:06contradiction somebody's gonna say well dexter there's no stakes here you know the mets are not
13:10playing for anything here but listen there's gonna be i expect a pack stadium and yankee stadium
13:15there's going to be a buzz that is different if you've been to these subway series games it's a
13:19different vibe there's a different buzz in the air now does it help when both teams are good yes
13:25it does it changes the buzz completely but there's always that buzz there's always that back and forth
13:30and i listen i've also been in the stands for a couple of these uh one which was very painful
13:35being
13:36the luis castillo pop drop pop that he dropped i was i was i'm my i'm so sorry to hear
13:41that was a that
13:41was a long ride home on the b train is is what i'll say um that was that was that
13:46was rough um
13:47um i i do think it matters for these guys just to pitch and feel that energy you cannot
13:54simulate post-season baseball it's not i don't think it's the point we're trying to make but you
13:57can sort of have the vibe of what's the pitching in the park where there's a lot of people where
14:03there's a lot of eyeballs around you where there's everything else around it right um for some of these
14:07players obviously who are not on the team around 9 11 um just feeling the energy of that on friday
14:14night
14:14will be interesting for all the players that the mets will be bringing back and the yankees will
14:17be bringing back for that um will be very interesting and i'm sure special for people
14:22in the ballpark playing or not playing it's going to be really interesting as we close here a couple
14:29things we talked about the rivalry and we know that fans in this city or baseball fans that is they're
14:38always going to notice where the other team is okay the mets are here the yankees are here where's
14:43my team where's this other team they're going to know that they're in very different places here in
14:47september considering how this season has played out warty is there a big gap between the mets and
14:55yankees right now do you think the gap is big between the mets and yankees right now and how close
15:00are the mets to closing that gap ever talking on the front of talents and continued success there
15:08is a solid gap in the sense that you know criticize the yankees all you want either as a mets
15:13fan or as
15:14an opposing fan or you know just as a baseball critic what have you it doesn't change the fact that
15:18the
15:18yankees position themselves year in and year out as one of the better teams in all the american league
15:22and regardless of the american league being weaker on paper versus the national league that we've seen more
15:27consistent over years past it doesn't change the fact that the yankees deserve endless credit for
15:31building a structure of a roster that finds continued success either at times with certain call-ups in
15:36the pitching staff or obviously just the continued balance and handling the ups and flows of a 162 the
15:41highs the lows and everything else that entails for the new york mets uh their goal should be to
15:46build to position themselves to have similar success where you know steve cohen when he became owner
15:51the emphasis wasn't just to be the west coast daughters but it was to be an organization
15:55that was year in and year out a top dog in the national league you know something that we certainly
16:00envy and can admire what the yankees have been able to do every single year for the most part so
16:04is there a gap absolutely is this a gap that can be closed at any point in the near future
16:09it
16:09absolutely can but it's imperative on steve cohen and david sterns properly allocating their dollars
16:15you know there's a reason why roi is important right and between not only spending properly this
16:19upcoming off season depending on the status of obviously the cba and what that will entail
16:23pairing that with making proper trades and building around the core that you believe is part of this
16:29team's future that we know a solid amount of you know still figuring out exactly who are the best
16:34pieces of the puzzle as we head into 2027 nonetheless when you look at the yankees and how they handle
16:40the
16:40structure of a starting staff to their bullpen to just how they are from an organization standpoint
16:46there are things that i don't admire personally especially when we talk about fundamental baseball
16:51among other aspects of the club but one of the things i've always admired about the yankees and
16:56this is what nets fans should be you know glamoring for as well as a team that the yearly expectation
17:01is
17:02basically world series or bust right and the difference here is that for nets fans we may have
17:07that expectation in our head but the reality nine times out of ten is a team that either doesn't make
17:12playoffs or has a nice little run that we get every number of years for the yankees they know they're
17:18making playoffs every single year it's just a matter of are they going to be god forbid for their sake
17:22of wild card exit or are they a team that's going to go all the way to the dance and
17:25hopefully prevail
17:26unlike what they did a couple years ago against the dodgers so that's my stance on that um there's
17:31definitely a gap and definitely work to be done for the new york mats yeah the the gap in terms
17:36of
17:36sustained success which to me is the biggest gap that matters you could talk about the gap in terms of
17:43them being better next year sure you can close a gap and the mets could become a playoff team i
17:48think
17:48there's a world in which that happens in one off season you could be encouraged about you need somebody
17:53might say hey that's well i'm encouraged about how the mets are playing right now and if they
17:57carry some of this into 2027 assuming that there is baseball that this can be good but when you talk
18:04about sustained success that takes consistency that takes competency that takes warty's favorite word
18:13this season being proactive it takes all these things to happen in that and the mets have not
18:19proven that and have not shown that um in their time and they've got a ways to go on that
18:26you know you
18:27talked about the expectation that yankee fans have and yeah there's an expectation to win every year
18:32you know and i sometimes laugh at my colleagues here at the new york post who are yankee fans because
18:37there's really not that many uh mets fans on our team there they complain when they go through a
18:44little blip and i'm like hey y'all be fine you're gonna be okay y'all don't know how good
18:49you have it
18:49yeah you don't right yeah the problems not saying that there aren't problems but the problems that
18:55exist in the bronx are very different than the problems that exist in the mets fan base world now
19:02i will say this there's something to the mets fan base in which and i get it from where people
19:08are
19:08coming from that it always feels like the sky is falling every time there feels like there's hope
19:12it feels like things come crashing down but that is because there has not been sustained success
19:17right you haven't had these long stretches of years where the mets you know okay they're a consistent
19:23perennial playoff team injury happens but they still figure out a way to get in the playoffs
19:28you know you look at i know this is going to burn for mets fans you look at what the
19:31atlanta braves
19:32have done in their history right like yeah have they haven't won even as many championships as the
19:37yankees but they've been consistent they've been there they're always knocking on the door they're
19:42very well run um this is what i think mets fans want to see but it has to start with
19:48an error wardy
19:49it has to start with finally putting together a half decade i'm not even asking for a whole decade a
19:54half
19:55decade stretch of you're a perennial playoff team and world series contender now to close that gap
20:04because that and this could be another podcast for another day so i'm not going to get too deep into
20:07it but to close that gap it's not just doing it it's it's the front office being in alignment with
20:14the managers with the players with the scouting all of this has to happen over time and i keep going
20:22back to your word there has to be proactivity there cannot be the complacency of what it is because
20:27what mets fans are going to say is hey steve cohen came here and said that he wanted to be
20:30the dodgers
20:31east and follow that model and we see what the dodgers have done with their success
20:37let's put up a shut up time you want to close that gap you got to put up or shut
20:41up now and
20:42the gap for a consistent success sustained success is still huge to me with between the
20:47mets and the yankees right now all right last thing warty who wins this round two of the subway series
20:52you go on mets you go on yankees or are you just looking at this and saying man i just
20:58hope the
20:59mets keep playing some spirited ball have a good showing that's enough of a win for me where where
21:05are you on this in terms of who wins round two of the subway series i think the mets went
21:10around too
21:10and it's not just because i'm a mets fan it just kind of following the trend as to what's been
21:15going on
21:15with the mets and their matchups against the yankees over the past really every year since
21:19i've been covering them this is my sixth season now i'm covering the mets under cohen and uh we've
21:24seen this trend you know i think also back to you know when the mets had a series when if
21:28it was
21:28either a series one or a split against the yanks back in 2022 or max scherzer struck out judge like
21:33three or four times i was at that game it was bananas it was a marty walked it off um
21:38if i'm not
21:38mistaken um i've seen all these moments even at yankee stadium over the past couple years i think the
21:43mets are going to take two out of three um it'll be interesting to especially see what happens
21:47tonight with all the emotions for the uh for the 9-11 game which i have something to close with
21:52um
21:52so make sure i do that before we get out of here um but i do think that this is
21:56going to be a series
21:56of the mets prevail in the end and i think they're going to continue to play kind of this spoiler
22:01mentality you know we'll see obviously uh the met to fluctuate with how they fared against good versus
22:06you know maybe below 500 teams this year but as i mentioned it doesn't matter if the mets are
22:12also in the hunt for a playoff push or at their say 20 plus games below 500 when it comes
22:18to playing
22:18the yankees they always bring an atmosphere that leads you to think oh wow you know they really
22:23aren't that far off from the yankees after all it's going to be very interesting to see what happens
22:28here look i i think the yankees they've got more to play for i think they know the urgency in
22:34the
22:34series um and i think they end up getting it done um i'll i think the mets win one but
22:41i think all
22:42these games are going to be very close i think they're going to be very competitive um i see
22:48the yankees winning two out of three but it wouldn't shock me if the mets won two out of three
22:54had a little bit of the last laugh here in the season but i'm going to say the yankees win
22:58it i
22:59think for me looking at the mets though it's just how do they play i'm i'm the thing i'm really
23:04watching
23:04the thing i'm most intrigued about are these young pitchers how do they pitch um how do they continue to
23:11to play in this atmosphere how do they adjust his environment that's what i'm going to be looking
23:15to see if that's good to me that's a if you're a mets fan i think that's a huge positive
23:19you want
23:20to win two out of three sheesh you would love to see a sweep if that could happen i know
23:24there's no
23:24doubt about that but yeah i i just think the yankees they know have a lot to play for they
23:30have a lot to
23:30figure out now with aaron judge back um so for me i think at this point of the mets you're
23:35not looking
23:35that much of wins and losses although it'll be nice um i just think it's continuing to play well
23:40seeing how the young guys pitch in this environment and then you know take it from there that's that's
23:46my thoughts but it should be a very interesting subway series with a lot going on 9 11 friday night
23:51um should be a big thing wardy you had something you wanted to say on the 9 11 of it
23:56all here
23:57take it away yeah i want to say this at the inception of the show so i got to make
24:02sure i say it now um
24:03you know obviously this is a very emotional very in a lot of ways special day for people that are
24:09in
24:10the new york community myself uh for context i was one years of age when 9 11 took place and
24:16i was
24:16living in one island at the time i'm currently a pa resident but i i initially started my life you
24:21know
24:21all on island and my father was also a volunteer firefighter at the time so there's a lot of um
24:26connection and attachment that i have um to that alone not only through my family but i had
24:31plenty family and friends naturally that were impacted um by that by that absolute tragedy
24:36and when we fast forward all these years later you know i think about how important it is for not
24:42only
24:43the mets the yankees but baseball and just everyone as a whole to make sure that this stays relevant
24:48in the conversation every single year and i think people do such a great job at that but one way
24:53that i
24:53think is so brilliant in making baseball fans new yorkers come together especially those who were
24:59significantly impacted firsthand by these events that happened all those decades ago is what we're
25:04seeing tonight and this is something that i'm calling to mlb and they're scheduling whoever handles
25:09these things the mets and the yankees should be playing on 9 11 every single year this should not
25:14be a circumstance where they do it every couple years every single year there should be an emphasis
25:19either at yankee stadium or at city field to bring these two teams together to have them battled out
25:25on a day and where you're bringing the entire city together is so much more than just a baseball game
25:31right when we think of obviously piazza's home run all those years ago as the first special moment
25:36to really happen in flushing queens you know how much that meant not only to mets fan base but across
25:41the country and what was such a sense of an emotional time you know the mets were not playing the
25:45yankees
25:46during that time but doesn't change the fact that these are the two teams at the pedestal at the
25:50forefront of this because they were the most immediately impacted so when i think about how
25:55can mlb continue to do a good job in vain and paying attention and putting emphasis and focus on this
26:01important day it's to do exactly what they're doing today but to have it be an absolute reoccurring
26:06thing every single season no matter you know what is happening with the respective schedules
26:12around it you got to make it happen i'm curious to know your thoughts on this dex but you know
26:17when we
26:17have that taste of it going back to i believe 2021 uh with you know that was at the time
26:23when javi
26:23bias on the team and that's when the mets were rocking the not pinstripes but just the full white
26:28jerseys that said new york uh that was an electric series that's when when door had the three home runs
26:33going you know tip for tap back back and forth with jean carlo i mean talk about an atmosphere that
26:38was
26:39one of the most electric atmospheres you could ever see in the regular season um no reason for that to
26:44be
26:44it every three four year thing i think that this needs to be every single year uh what's your
26:49thoughts you know it's funny it's not something i had thought about um in terms of the mets and
26:55yankees playing the subway series on every year it's an idea like i like it i say why not you
27:00know
27:00obviously every year it's not going to wrap into it being a weekend series um you know some days it
27:06might fall on the thursday off day depending the way the scheduling works but i do think there should
27:11be a series around it in the least listen here's you know here's what i'll say last year on september
27:1911th i had the opportunity to get i apologize i am forgetting the firehouse um in chelsea that i went
27:29to but i went to this firehouse that john franco todd zeal um al leiter and i'm forgetting the fourth
27:38person that also goes there every year former men um and they they do it every year and they they
27:44go
27:44and they pay their respects um and they talk to the firemen and women that work at that station and
27:51some people talk and it was great and i got to interview all them last year and we put it
27:55out
27:55it was really good conversations and um i i've talked to todd zeal about this and how important it
28:02was to him all those guys john franco um all these guys how important it was for them to show
28:07up and
28:07how important that day was and being on the team and the time and they all speak of it in
28:12such a
28:12reverence and they say a lot of what you said um warty which is it is so important for future
28:18generations
28:19to keep the memory of those we lost and the the message of never forget alive and and and also
28:27sharing
28:28the thing i always get from those guys you really have me a lot of thinking back about why this
28:32is
28:32important to have this around this time warty you know a lot of things they talked about how much it
28:37uplifted the city at that time in 2001 um and even though at the time for me i just went
28:43to college
28:44i was living in pittsburgh um at the time when that happened i remember watching from afar those first
28:49games i remember seeing piazza's home run and then the yankees run to the world series and all that
28:54it was such an important time for the city um to see that so i think it's a reminder of
28:59that i think
28:59it's the beauty of how we can remember how sports can uplift in times that are tough um and hopefully
29:06sometimes bring people together um i know that sometimes it's thrown around as a cliche but yeah
29:10i think i think it's dope i think when you see what it means to players who are on those
29:13teams at the
29:14time and when you talk to people who either have lost people and i know some people have lost people
29:19that i'm thinking of today on on on the on this day or they have uh fathers and mothers who
29:26you
29:26know worked with nypd or the fdny um let's not forget our friends with the ems as well too on
29:32that
29:32day uh it's so important to them so i think to have this sort of reminder around this day with
29:39sports
29:40that can maybe be a little bit of a distraction but can also uh serve as a way to honor
29:45those and keep
29:46that memory alive and yeah it's important i'm big on history and keeping history alive and and making
29:51sure we talk about that and make sure those stories aren't lost so yeah man i haven't really thought
29:57about it until you brought it up um and i would be fine with that i'd be fine with the
30:02subway series
30:03being around or on 9 11 every year because i just think it would be dope for the city i
30:08think it'd be
30:09really dope for the city and something really good to have and um why not around baseball it's a good
30:14idea good good idea by you good words um everybody out there uh never forget let us know your thoughts
30:22on what you think the mets can do this weekend in the subway series against the yankees round two
30:26going down the september 11th weekend that is going to do it for this edition of straight out
30:31of fleshing do want to let everybody know warty and i will be doing uh video recapping the subway
30:36series on sunday uh warty will be at city field i will be in studio and then monday we will
30:43be
30:43together i haven't seen my guy warty in person a little bit we will be together at city field
30:48for a game a lot of you guys have been waiting for that is the return of pete alonzo to
30:54flushing
30:55that should be very interesting very i'm interested about a lot you mean to tell me it's not the louise
31:01robert game decks no i got my dad my dad i my dad i left out our guy louise robert
31:10jr who also will be
31:11back no no he's already on the underlist decks it doesn't matter sorry you're right forgot about
31:17that you're right um you know you know what we'll i'll save this for sunday we'll we'll preview that
31:22sunday i'm very intrigued to what you think the reception is going to be for alonzo all that stuff
