00:01The NHS faced record demand during the summer's heatwaves, with pressure across emergency services.
00:07Almost 7.3 million people attended A&E in England during June, July and August,
00:13the highest summer total recorded. Ambulance services also saw a record 2.46 million call-outs,
00:19while NHS 111 answered more than 3 million calls. Health leaders say extreme heat is becoming a
00:25growing pressure on services. The government says £1.5 billion will provide extra hospital capacity,
00:31including new operating theatres and children's wards. But only £32 million of that funding is
00:38earmarked for measures to help the NHS cope directly with extreme heat.
