00:01Plans for a major NHS hospital rebuild have highlighted the problems caused by ageing
00:06buildings. Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust says St Mary's Hospital has the largest backlog
00:11maintenance liability in the NHS, with regular floods, outages and structural problems. It says
00:18those issues are making it increasingly difficult to run services safely. The proposed replacement
00:23would be around 30 storeys high, with clinical services brought together in one building.
00:28The Trust is seeking further funding to accelerate construction
00:32and aims to submit a planning application in Spring 2027.
00:37The project is part of the Government's new hospital programme.
