00:00Former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak's fresh bid for a pardon has been put on hold.
00:05In a statement, the Legal Affairs Division of the Prime Minister's Office said his application will be deferred to a
00:12future meeting of the Pardons Board,
00:14consented by His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia.
00:19The decision was made at the 63rd meeting of the Pardons Board for the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur, Labuan
00:26and Putrajaya at Istana Negara on Friday.
00:30Sultan Ibrahim presides over the board, which also comprises the Attorney General, Federal Territories Minister Hannah Yeo and three other
00:38members.
00:39At the same meeting, His Majesty consented to the release of 65 prisoners.
00:47Non-citizens among them will be repatriated within six months of release.
00:5173-year-old Najib was initially sentenced to 12 years in prison and fined 210 million ringgit in 2020 over
01:00the transfer of 42 million ringgit from SRC International, a former 1MDB subsidiary, into his personal accounts.
01:08He began serving his sentence in August 2022.
01:12A partial royal pardon in January 2024 later halved his jail term and reduced his fine to 50 million ringgit.
01:20Najib had also sought to serve the remainder of his term under house arrest, citing an addendum order.
01:26The High Court ruled last year that the order was unenforceable, and Najib withdrew his appeal against that decision in
01:34April.
01:35Najib also faces a separate 15-year sentence and an 11.38 billion ringgit fine in a 1MDB-related case,
01:43after his conviction on 25 charges last December.
01:47That term is due to begin in 2028, and he has filed an appeal.
