00:10Speaking at a reunion tea gathering for reformasi movement pioneers in Kuala Lumpur on Sunday,
00:15Anwar said every prisoner, including former Prime Minister Datuk Sri Najib Razak,
00:20had the right to submit a petition to the pardons board.
00:23He said the Prime Minister's advice and the Attorney General's views were taken into consideration during the process,
00:28but stressed that his advice did not amount to a recommendation for Najib to receive a pardon.
00:34Anwar said he had continued reminding the pardons board about Najib's ongoing cases,
00:39the substantial fine involved and the potential impact on public confidence in the justice system
00:43and Malaysia's international standing.
00:46However, he said the government would accept the king's decision once it had been made.
00:50Anwar also stressed that the conditional pardon would not affect legal proceedings in Najib's other cases.
00:56Najib was granted a conditional pardon by His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, on September 18th,
01:03allowing him to serve the remainder of his SRC international sentence under house arrest until August 23rd, 2028.
01:11The decision was made at the 64th meeting of the Federal Territories Pardons Board for Kuala Lumpur,
01:17Labuan and Putrajaya at Istana Negara.
01:19The conditional pardon is subject to Najib paying a RM50 million fine and complying with all other conditions.
01:27The Legal Affairs Division of the Prime Minister's Department said the pardon would be automatically revoked
01:32if Najib breached any of the conditions, requiring him to return immediately to prison to serve the remainder of his
01:38sentence.
