00:02Winter is over and spring is here. For Canberrans, that means one thing.
00:08Floriade is about to begin and we've been given a sneak peek.
00:12This year's theme is Feast of Flowers, celebrating the connection between gardens, food and community.
00:20Across Commonwealth Park there are more than a million blooms on display.
00:24The garden bed designs draw inspiration from some iconic Australian food experiences.
00:29Including fairy bread, a blooming barbecue and the famous Woman's Weekly Duck Cake.
00:35More than half a million people visited Floriade last year, making it the biggest festival in the event's history.
00:42And organisers are hoping they'll have an even bigger crowd over the next four weeks.
00:47It's a proven drawcard for tourists. You see hotel occupancies really spike at this time of year.
00:54So it's a wonderful opportunity for our visitor and hospitality economy as well to leverage off the fantastic platform that
01:03Floriade provides every year.
01:05The gates open to the public tomorrow. Floriade runs until October 11.
