00:11ДИНАМИЧНАЯ МУЗЫКА
00:44Hello, everybody, and welcome to Paddock Uncut from the new Spanish Grand Prix.
00:50Your first look inside the Madring paddock and pit lane here in Madrid, Spain.
00:57Bernie Collins and David Croft are your tour guides, along with me, for this show.
01:03How are you, everybody?
01:05Nice to have you. Welcome back, Bernie.
01:06Yeah, thank you. I just had the one race off.
01:08But, yes, lovely to be back and to be in a lovely bit of sunshine,
01:10which was special all weekend, and excited to see what the track looks like.
01:13Sunshine, but it's chilly in the mornings, isn't it, Crofty?
01:16Oh, in the evenings, you need a jumper.
01:18I'm glad I brought my trousers, to be honest, this morning.
01:20It was very parky, it was, this morning.
01:23What a weekend ahead of us, Ted.
01:25Low-grip track, 22 corners, nice and dusty, walls really, really close.
01:30In the words of Laurent Mickeys, who just passed us 30 seconds ago,
01:34could be an expensive weekend.
01:35He wasn't talking about the tapas, was he?
01:37No, he wasn't.
01:38OK, well, it's certainly been expensive and a great effort for them
01:40to build this Grand Prix track, the newest one in Formula One.
01:44So, should we give you a little guide?
01:45Yes.
01:46So, essentially, what you need to know is that we're at Birmingham's NEC,
01:51or London's XL, all right?
01:54So glamorous.
01:55There is, there's the NEC, or London's XL.
01:59And the motorhome paddock is essentially in a kind of car park
02:04of the main exhibition centre for Madrid.
02:07It's called the EFEMA.
02:09It's the exhibition centre for Madrid.
02:11We're kind of near Madrid's Barajas Airport, if you know where that is.
02:14It's sort of out of town, about, what, 20 minutes?
02:16Yes.
02:17And so what they've done, they've put all the motorhomes together
02:19in this nice sort of motorhome village.
02:22Mm-hmm.
02:22And then there's this path of a thousand go-kart, sorry, golf caddies,
02:31while you go to the sort of serious side of Formula One.
02:35I'm calling this the Nexus, this, because it intersects.
02:39Drivers are going to have to come, and engineers are going to have to come
02:41from the motorhomes to all the garages in the motorhome.
02:43Are you ready for this weekend?
02:44This could be the most amount of steps you've ever done
02:47at a Grand Prix weekend, Ted Kravitz.
02:48Well, possibly, but we're giving the nice people at home
02:50a little tour guide at the moment.
02:52So where are we walking here, Crofty?
02:53Well, we're walking now down to the business end of the paddock.
02:57We've done the hospitality bit.
02:59Right down here is, as we say, the business end,
03:02and a paddock is separated by two more exhibition halls as well.
03:06So you've got some teams on this side,
03:08and you've got other teams through the tunnel,
03:10so that the top end are all 550 metres in the distance,
03:14and the likes of Cadillac and Alpine and Audi,
03:18Racing Bulls, Aston Martin, are all down at this end.
03:20I would not want to be a Cadillac mechanic on the grid,
03:24with all due respect, at the back,
03:26and then having to wheel their trolley 550 metres back to the garage,
03:30only to find that there's been an aborted start,
03:33and they've all got to go back the other way again.
03:35I hope they've been training for this.
03:37Someone's going to...
03:38I'm worried that someone's going to get run over by a golf cart, Bernie.
03:41There's a lot of golf cart in the bike.
03:43I think from a team side,
03:45like if we look at the Cadillac one behind us, for example,
03:48this building, which we normally see in the paddock,
03:50opposite the hospitality's,
03:51this is where a lot of the engineers work.
03:53A lot of these teams now actually have their driver's room in this building,
03:56for example.
03:57The tyres is normally on the bottom floor.
03:59So I think from a team side,
04:01engineers will be based here,
04:02then they've got a short walk into the back of the garage,
04:05like they normally would.
04:06So the biggest disadvantages is really on a Thursday,
04:09you'll go over to the hospitality paddock
04:11to have your lunch and your dinner.
04:13After track running, you'll go over there for dinner.
04:15But lunch, everything happens in here.
04:17The engineer meetings happens in here.
04:19The drivers are based in here.
04:20So over a normal,
04:22the Friday, Saturday, Sunday, the running day,
04:25this is where a lot of your action happens.
04:28And actually, from a mechanic's point of view,
04:30then you're quite far away from the madness of hospitality.
04:33There's something quite nice about that.
04:34I suppose.
04:35But then, so if you're wondering, if you're seeing here,
04:37so you've got Cadillac Race Motorhome,
04:39then Alpine, then Audi,
04:42the bottom three in the championship.
04:43And then we've got hall number 1D
04:45of the EFEMA Exhibition Centre.
04:48And if you're wondering what happens
04:49with the rest of the race trucks and transporters,
04:52well, they're inside.
04:53They're in there.
04:54And then in another hall beyond that as well.
04:56Bernie, I've also just worked out
04:58to get to our commentary boxes,
05:00which are pretty much directly opposite
05:03where we're stood at the moment,
05:04we've got to go all the way down
05:06to the other end of the paddock,
05:07over the bridge,
05:08and come all the way back again.
05:10Where's our golf cart?
05:11No one cares about your route
05:13to the commentary boxes.
05:14Free exercise.
05:15Okay, all right.
05:16You don't need a personal trainer this weekend.
05:18I don't know.
05:19Thank you.
05:20What do the drivers think?
05:22And what are their first impressions
05:24of this Madring here in Madrid?
05:27It looks different.
05:29It looks that the truck has character
05:31that is charismatic
05:32with a lot of different kind of corners.
05:35And at least we can take that away
05:37that it's going to be a different truck
05:39to what we're used to.
05:41It's very fast.
05:42It's flowing.
05:42It's definitely intense.
05:44A lot of blind corners and exits.
05:47Undulation, going up and down,
05:49banking, 90 degrees, 180.
05:52Low, high speed, you name it.
05:53A lot of sort of combined braking areas
05:55where it's very easy to lock wheels.
05:57The runoff areas, basically, there are none.
05:59I think it's a proper truck.
06:01The braking zones here are very challenging.
06:03You know, you're coming from high speed.
06:05There's not much runoff,
06:06so if you have a small lockup,
06:07you'll be going straight into the wall.
06:09Wall is very close.
06:11And I think mistake can be very costly.
06:13There will be incidents, you know.
06:16I think it's inevitable
06:17that someone will make a mistake at some point.
06:20I feel like an old man trying to learn,
06:21trying a new habit or a new hobby.
06:25It took me like 30 laps
06:27to realize where all corners were.
06:29On track in real life,
06:30there's always a few nuances,
06:32different curves here,
06:33different walls there.
06:34So not expecting exactly how it was with the sim.
06:37It's going to be tough.
06:37I mean, I think when F3 was testing here,
06:39there were a lot of shunts as well,
06:40so it's not an easy track.
06:42Easy to make a mistake also
06:43with the layout of the track.
06:45And, yeah, the curbs that are there,
06:47we need to run over a few of them.
06:49And that's normally not the strong point of our car,
06:51but we'll just try and, yeah,
06:52do the best we can.
06:55Yeah, Max Verstappen talking about the ride,
06:57the ride of the Red Bull.
06:58It's always the sort of Achilles heel, isn't it?
07:00So he doesn't think the ride of the Red Bull
07:01might be great.
07:02I mean, how much time can you gain
07:04and lose over those curbs?
07:05Where is it?
07:05Five and six?
07:06Turns five and six?
07:07Definitely there.
07:07Yeah, I think that's where the biggest one is.
07:09And I think from Max's point,
07:10the difficulty is they've been uncertain
07:12on where the limitation of that car is.
07:14It's not always acted the same lap on lap for them.
07:16And around a circuit like this
07:17where the walls are closed,
07:18you need to be really sure
07:19where you're placing your car each lap,
07:20and that'll be a disadvantage.
07:22Okay, they're talking about the track.
07:23Here it is, Crofty.
07:24There seems to be some sort of schmuzzle
07:26about why these people
07:27who want to get in the pit lane
07:29aren't being allowed into the pit lane.
07:30But that's what happens sometimes
07:31with the new circuit.
07:32Lots of schmuzzles
07:33and things to be ironed out.
07:34There's the big flag,
07:36which of course,
07:36because it's hot and there's no wind,
07:38it's hanging a bit limp.
07:39It's hanging a bit limp, it is.
07:4124 square metres, big flag.
07:43You like flags, don't you?
07:44Well, I like a place with a big flag.
07:45Who doesn't?
07:45Is this a bigger flag
07:46than Turn 1 in Texas?
07:48No, I think it's about the same,
07:50and I think it's about the same
07:50as the one in the big flag
07:51in Azerbaijan as well.
07:52Oh, I love that big flag.
07:53I'll tell you what we don't love,
07:54and Bernie Collins picked this up.
07:56This is the pit lane exit,
07:57and it gets very, very narrow,
07:59and the lights are beyond the concrete
08:02that we can see here.
08:03If somebody breaks down
08:06when everyone's trying
08:07to leave the pit lane,
08:09there could be another schmuzzle.
08:10There could be quite a queue
08:12of people trying to get out
08:13because you can't go past
08:15on left or right side.
08:16I think it's tight,
08:17although then someone else said
08:18that they thought
08:20there was loads of room for two cars,
08:21so either it was my photography skills
08:23or my viewing skills,
08:24but we'll find out soon enough.
08:25Yeah.
08:25So I think those people
08:27want to come over here,
08:28and these people want to go over there,
08:30and nobody's being allowed.
08:32This is very typical
08:33of what happens at a new circuit.
08:35It does, I know, it does.
08:35You get new marshals,
08:37new officials.
08:38These chaps are from Tilka.
08:39They build the circuit.
08:40Yeah, so they're not
08:40allowed in.
08:41They're not allowed in either.
08:42Not allowed in either.
08:42You should be going now.
08:43It's your track.
08:45Okay.
08:46All right.
08:46Well, listen,
08:47we will leave them to it.
08:50I mean,
08:50of the track itself,
08:52a lot of people are saying,
08:53Max was saying,
08:54never mind Macau
08:55or anything like that.
08:57It's Jeddah
08:57that reminds them.
08:58Yeah.
08:59A cross between Jeddah
09:00and Baku
09:01with the twisty nature
09:02and then the high speed.
09:03We haven't talked about
09:05La Monumentale,
09:06Turn 12,
09:07550 meters again.
09:09Should be taken flat out
09:11if the tires are up to it.
09:1324% banking.
09:14That is,
09:15that is one hell of a corner.
09:17And I can't wait
09:18to see the cars
09:19coming through there.
09:20A really car.
09:20This is going to be
09:21a great track to drive.
09:23It's going to be
09:23a great track to watch the cars.
09:25Might not necessarily
09:26be the best overtaking track,
09:28so qualifying is going to be
09:29even more important
09:30on Saturday.
09:31But boy, oh boy,
09:32La Monumentale.
09:34What a moment that's going to be
09:35when the grip's there.
09:36I can't deal with any
09:37of this negativity anymore.
09:39This tension is driving me.
09:41Yeah, there was a tension
09:42before you turned up.
09:44I'm not having an argument
09:45with the security
09:46about wanting to get in.
09:47This week.
09:48Let's go back.
09:48Let's go back to,
09:51let's go back to the paddock.
09:52And while we're doing that,
09:53let's listen to the Mercedes guys.
09:56George Russell,
09:56we know what happened
09:57at the last race.
09:58If you don't,
09:59Kimi Antonelli came from the back
10:01with an engine penalty
10:02and still won the race
10:04in brilliant style.
10:05And where that's left,
10:06George Russell,
10:07in the World Championship.
10:08Well, maybe you can judge.
10:09Here are the Mercedes duo.
10:11Yeah, the weekend itself
10:12was, you know,
10:15absolutely incredible.
10:17You know, definitely
10:19so far the best day of my life
10:20and incredible memory.
10:23And definitely, you know,
10:26I couldn't have wished
10:27for a better day.
10:28I'm feeling good
10:29taking the positives
10:30away from every weekend.
10:32You know, of course,
10:32I would have loved
10:33to have won the race
10:34and Monza would have loved
10:35to have continued
10:36that fight with Kimi.
10:40You know, the fact is
10:41he's just doing
10:41an amazing job right now
10:42and you have to give him
10:44credit for that.
10:45The mindset stays the same
10:46as the start of the year.
10:48Of course,
10:49now the situation
10:50is a bit different
10:51because I have,
10:51you know,
10:52a decent gap.
10:52But that doesn't mean anything
10:55until you actually cross
10:56that final finish line
10:58because we've seen many times
11:00how the situation can change.
11:02Even at the start of the year,
11:04I remember at some point
11:05I had like 50 points lead
11:07and I went down to 20
11:08or something like that
11:09within two races.
11:11So, of course,
11:12you never want to
11:14have these kind of issues
11:16or a DNF in general.
11:17But, you know,
11:18at the same time,
11:19I just want to just focus
11:21on myself race by race,
11:23do my best,
11:24maximize everything
11:25that every opportunity
11:27and race as fast as I can
11:28and then we'll see
11:29where we end up
11:30at the end of the year.
11:31The reality is,
11:33you know,
11:33my teammates have done
11:34a better job than me this year.
11:35I've had some bad luck
11:36but he deserves to be leading
11:38and right now
11:39he deserves to be
11:40in the position he is.
11:41So, from my side,
11:42I'm just going race by race.
11:44I'm going to try
11:45and win as many as possible.
11:48If I want to win this championship,
11:49I'm going to need some luck.
11:52And that's where we are.
11:54So, I'm sort of
11:56being quite realistic
11:58about the position we're in.
12:00Winning,
12:01obviously,
12:01it's not the end of anything.
12:02It's just the start
12:03of a new path
12:04to try and win again.
12:07Win again.
12:08George thinks
12:09he can still win the championship.
12:10I love that.
12:11I mean,
12:11best day.
12:12It's always nice, isn't it,
12:13when you hear somebody say
12:14that was the best day
12:15of my life so far.
12:17Who knows how many more
12:18Italian Grand Prix wins.
12:19Kimi Antonelli has to be ahead
12:21but how do you think
12:22about it, Bernie,
12:22in terms of what they both
12:24need to do this weekend,
12:25particularly as you were
12:26talking about qualifying?
12:27Yeah,
12:28so I think qualifying
12:28is going to be very important
12:29here.
12:30I think that,
12:31you know,
12:31obviously,
12:31Kimi didn't largely
12:33take part in qualifying
12:34last week because he knew
12:35he had the penalty
12:35that gave him the right
12:37tyres for the race.
12:37But qualifying is going
12:38to be very,
12:39very important here.
12:40Both drivers are going
12:40to have to,
12:41all of the drivers
12:42are going to have to use
12:42their entire skill
12:44to get a lap together
12:45here,
12:46I think is going
12:47to be very,
12:48very difficult.
12:48There's so many places
12:50for error,
12:51any sort of misjudgment.
12:52So it's about keeping
12:54cool,
12:54calm and collected
12:55and trying to get
12:55the lap out of it.
12:57So both drivers
12:58have got a big challenge.
12:59George obviously wants
13:00to overturn
13:01how the championship
13:02is going at this stage.
13:03He wants to start
13:04to make that move back.
13:05Last week,
13:06N was a fantastic opportunity
13:07and just didn't quite
13:08come to him the way
13:09he would have liked.
13:10George is good in qualifying.
13:11Here we are at Mercedes.
13:12They'll be plotting
13:12their domination of the weekend
13:14maybe.
13:14George is good in qualifying,
13:15Lancrofty.
13:16He's got every chance
13:16of being on pole.
13:17And he had every chance
13:18of winning in Italy as well.
13:20If you look at the data,
13:22Kimi was about
13:22a tenth of a second a lap
13:24faster than George
13:25on average.
13:26Had a new engine in,
13:27new power unit in.
13:28That was giving him
13:29that tenth of a second a lap,
13:32taking nothing away
13:33from Kimi.
13:34It was a stellar performance.
13:35George really did
13:36nothing wrong.
13:37He was on a strategy
13:38where his tyres held out
13:40but because of that
13:41virtual safety car,
13:43Kimi could revert back
13:44to a better strategy
13:45than the one he was
13:46forced to go on to
13:47when the red flag came out.
13:48So he had the disadvantage
13:49early.
13:50He had the advantage
13:50a little bit later.
13:52And the word from within
13:53Mercedes is that George
13:54kind of left Monza
13:55disappointed but yet
13:56satisfied with his own
13:58performance.
13:59Yes, he didn't beat
13:59his teammate but there
14:00were extenuating
14:01circumstances around that.
14:03And without the VSC,
14:05Mercedes believed George
14:06would have quite comfortably
14:07won the race.
14:08Don't forget as well,
14:09he did get held up
14:10by four seconds
14:11by Sergio Perez
14:12at the end of that VSC.
14:14Sergio came out of the pitch,
14:15George couldn't overtake him.
14:16What was the margin of victory?
14:18It certainly wasn't
14:19four seconds.
14:19So there were things
14:20that went against George
14:22and he does believe
14:23he's driving well enough
14:24to keep that challenge
14:25going to Kimi.
14:26I do wonder
14:27how many conversations
14:28happened in that office
14:29this week about
14:30should they have done
14:31something different
14:32with George during that race
14:33at the VSC?
14:34Should he have fitted
14:35the used medium tyre
14:37that he had available to him?
14:38Even before that,
14:40should they have used
14:40that medium in qualifying?
14:42We know in Monza
14:44qualifying is not the emphasis.
14:45Opposite track to this track
14:46where qualifying is
14:47we believe going to be
14:48the emphasis.
14:49So are your simulations
14:50telling you that
14:51in these niche cases
14:52having another medium available
14:54is better than using it
14:55in qualifying?
14:56Lots of people
14:57saved us off
14:58but I think there'll have been
14:59some good discussion.
15:00Although George came out
15:01saying he was satisfied,
15:02I think there'll have been
15:03some tough conversations
15:04about what they could have
15:05done differently on the VSC.
15:06Well, talking about
15:07tough conversations
15:09do you remember
15:11after the race
15:12well you may not
15:13but you might have heard
15:14that Ferrari
15:15had a press conference
15:16and Lewis Hamilton
15:17in that written press conference
15:19said
15:20look, you know
15:21we came together
15:22on the first lap
15:23it wasn't how I wanted
15:25things to go
15:26and it's not like
15:27we have the racing rules
15:28that perhaps
15:28I think he intimated
15:29I used to have
15:30at Mercedes
15:31and it's already too late
15:32for the championship.
15:33Well, it seems like
15:34in the
15:34what's Monday, Tuesday,
15:35Wednesday, Thursday
15:36four days
15:37since Monza
15:38there's been a bit
15:38of a reverse ferret
15:39going on
15:40the mood music
15:41has changed completely
15:43in Ferrari
15:43and well we have
15:45somebody putting their
15:45hands up
15:46and taking the blame
15:46listen to this
15:49well surely
15:49I mean
15:50the turn one
15:50the turn two
15:52incident
15:52is not something
15:53we ever want to see
15:54again
15:54and for that
15:55I mean obviously
15:56reviewing the images
15:57it's pretty clear
15:58that I could have done
15:59a better job
16:00just slowing down
16:01the car
16:01and not
16:05putting Lewis
16:06then
16:06in a difficult situation
16:08so
16:09this is something
16:10I can learn from
16:11for sure
16:12but we've already
16:13spoken with
16:14with Lewis
16:14I think the fact
16:15that we
16:15are grownups
16:17and are able
16:17to communicate
16:18with each other
16:18which we have
16:20I'm really firstly
16:21happy that he's
16:22really healthy
16:23and he's back
16:24here this weekend
16:24because we need
16:25him in the fight
16:26to challenge
16:28Mercedes
16:29together
16:30and
16:31the great thing
16:32I think
16:32there is all this
16:33discussion about
16:34communication
16:35and just like
16:35execution and stuff
16:36but
16:36the communication
16:38between John
16:39and Benedetto
16:40and Fred
16:41and his drivers
16:42are really great
16:44you know
16:44we all sit down
16:45and talk afterwards
16:45and squash it
16:47and move on
16:48so nothing like
16:48lingers
16:49nothing
16:49you know
16:50we're just looking
16:50forward as to
16:51how we can work
16:51better together
16:52it's been quite a few
16:53years now
16:54that I'm in Ferrari
16:55and I kind of
16:56know how it feels
16:58like when
17:00everything around
17:01Ferrari is kind of
17:02on fire
17:03and if you don't
17:04speak
17:05between Lewis
17:06and I
17:06then you can
17:07get caught
17:08with this
17:10noise that there's
17:11around the team
17:11when
17:12when there's
17:13it's not that
17:14there are no reasons
17:15for that noise
17:16but I think
17:17the intensity
17:17of the noise
17:18is a bit too
17:19too crazy
17:20when you look
17:21at Monza
17:22there's been friction
17:23between other teammates
17:24and we barely
17:25talk about it
17:26but when it's
17:27about Ferrari
17:28it takes
17:29proportion
17:30that are
17:30not normal
17:32but
17:32we spoke
17:33with Lewis
17:34we've always
17:35had a great
17:35relationship
17:37I have a lot
17:37of respect
17:38for Lewis
17:38I think it's
17:39really important
17:39to just acknowledge
17:40I trust in
17:41everything that we're
17:42doing
17:42the steps we're
17:43taking
17:43I trust in Fred
17:45and I really
17:45believe that
17:46we will get to
17:47where we're going
17:48whether it's next
17:49week
17:49whether it's this
17:50week
17:50whether it's
17:51several weeks
17:52time
17:52whether it's
17:53next year
17:53we'll just
17:54keep
17:54keep pushing
17:56so perhaps
17:57referring back
17:58to some of
17:59the noise
17:59in the press
18:00the fire
18:00as Charles
18:01Leclerc put it
18:02when there's
18:03fire around
18:04Ferrari
18:04Lewis there
18:05saying 100%
18:06back Fred
18:07Vasseur
18:07Charles Leclerc
18:09agreeing with him
18:09and were you
18:10surprised to hear
18:11Charles Leclerc put
18:11his hands up
18:12and saying
18:12I was wrong
18:13because Mr M
18:15Brundle Esquire
18:16OBE
18:16your fellow commentator
18:17doesn't think
18:18Charles Leclerc did
18:18anything wrong
18:19in turn two
18:19no but Mr N
18:20Rosberg Esquire
18:22did think that
18:23Charles had done
18:23something wrong
18:24there was quite a
18:26big discussion
18:27about it
18:27and I think we'll
18:28carry on over
18:29Tapas tonight
18:29having that chat
18:30but if Lewis was
18:33ahead at the apex
18:34on the outside
18:34then he was
18:35entitled to a bit
18:36more room
18:36it didn't surprise
18:37me that Charles
18:38put his hands up
18:39because it's the
18:39easiest way for
18:41things to simmer
18:42down just a little
18:43bit and to
18:44defuse the issue
18:45and I think that
18:45there's a defusing
18:47going on at Ferrari
18:48what I found
18:49really interesting
18:50today is that
18:51Lewis made a big
18:52thing about the
18:52rules of engagement
18:53that he had at
18:54Mercedes that aren't
18:55there at Ferrari
18:56and in the written
18:56press conference
18:57that you guys
18:59weren't at
18:59he was asked
19:00as part of your
19:02discussions were the
19:02rules of engagement
19:03mentioned and Lewis
19:04said no
19:04they weren't part of
19:05the discussions at
19:06all but if they're
19:07that important
19:08shouldn't they be
19:09part of the
19:09discussions because
19:11that might be the
19:11way to actually have
19:12parity and fairness
19:13for both drivers
19:14to go in with a
19:15plan and I'm not
19:17sure what the plan
19:18was for Ferrari
19:19on that first lap
19:20but it wasn't
19:21executed very well
19:22if there was a plan
19:22and the other thing
19:23Bernie on the
19:24technical side that
19:25Charles said was
19:26that actually despite
19:26all the pre-Monza
19:27hype Monza was
19:29probably their worst
19:30circuit even with
19:31the new engine
19:31yeah the car didn't
19:32look strong enough
19:33when you look at
19:34the race pace you
19:34compare Lewis to
19:35the people in the
19:36final stint of the
19:37race it's always a
19:38good example that
19:38tracks a bit more
19:39spread out you can
19:40see sort of cars
19:41driving at their
19:42genuine performance
19:43and it didn't
19:45it didn't look
19:45spectacular from
19:46Ferrari's point of
19:47view you know and
19:47even that Q2 I was
19:49sitting at home
19:49watching it going
19:50why are they so
19:51close to not going
19:52through like how
19:53could this be
19:54possible so it
19:55wasn't a track that
19:56necessarily suited
19:57them and they've got
19:58to try and figure out
19:59how they can get the
20:01most out of that
20:01Ferrari and he
20:02wasn't clear whether
20:03that was Ferrari or
20:04setup or genetics in
20:06the car but they
20:08need better performance
20:09than that if they're
20:09going to challenge
20:10this championship in
20:10any way
20:11okay but headline and
20:12backed up by the fact
20:14that they played
20:14paddle together with
20:16some Spanish paddle
20:17champions they're okay
20:20together and I'm buying
20:21that I can buy that I
20:23don't think they're the
20:23type to really go
20:24against each other
20:25Leclerc and Hamilton
20:27they know each other
20:28they're too long in the
20:29tooth together too
20:29experienced to start
20:30friction between each
20:32other
20:32I totally agree they
20:34have a very healthy
20:35relationship and both
20:36drivers wanted to
20:36stress that can I just
20:37say I'm not one to
20:39criticise outfits ever
20:41but playing paddle in
20:42this heat in such baggy
20:44trouser wear is that
20:46really such a good idea
20:47it's quite cool inside
20:48hall number three of
20:49the of the NEC XL
20:51if Fama
20:51fair enough
20:52it's not so bad
20:53right let's move it
20:54on to McLaren because
20:55it was a bit of a
20:55fractious weekend for
20:56them compromised each
20:58other in qualifying
20:58then Oscar got a
21:00penalty well let's pick
21:01it up including a last
21:04lap last corner pass by
21:07Lando Norris on Oscar
21:08Piastri so I don't know
21:09how I found them in the
21:10pen today see what you
21:11think here's Oscar first
21:13how is the harmony in the
21:15team Monza seemed a bit
21:16fractious there was the
21:18schmozzle in in qualifying
21:20then you got a penalty
21:21for a unintentional
21:23impeding and then you
21:24were Lando were racing
21:25passed you on the last
21:26lap got you by 0.197
21:30it all seemed a bit tight
21:31was it and are you all
21:33are you all getting on
21:34okay
21:34yeah we're all good I
21:37think operationally on on
21:39my side of things it
21:40wasn't wasn't our smooth
21:41this weekend for sure and
21:44there was definitely some
21:45some frustrating moments
21:46and yeah I think in the
21:49race we obviously got a
21:51bit close at points but
21:53we're all fine I mean Lando
21:55and I played paddle with
21:56each other I mean we went
21:57to the airport together and
21:58played paddle with each
21:59other during the week and
22:01we chose to be on the same
22:02team so we're we're all good
22:06you know when when you're
22:07close to one another there's
22:08always going to be you know
22:11moments that are a little
22:12bit stressful probably more
22:14for the pit wall than for us
22:15in the car but we're all good
22:18I think what's clear is that
22:19you will need qualifying will
22:21be important here it was
22:22important in Monza as well
22:24will you get another priority
22:26like you had the priority in
22:28Monza given that Oscar locked
22:31up and then made you do the
22:32whole that that meant you had
22:34to do the whole lap without a
22:37toe will you get one back on
22:38on that tally because of what
22:40happened in Monza no would you
22:43like one back maybe in Baku or
22:46something yeah no I don't want
22:49one one back I mean he didn't
22:51it on purpose so no nothing to
22:54nothing to complain about it's
22:55just it happens on a track like
22:57that but also on this track you
23:01do I don't think that's an
23:03important thing so no it's not
23:05been at all the thought of us
23:07on the team
23:10do we have flag sort of sort of
23:14getting up it was better
23:15earlier maybe it's our hot air
23:17I'm going for a track run in
23:18about half an hour I don't want a
23:20load of wins Ted did you just try
23:21and get your track run in there and
23:22make sure everyone knows you're
23:23going for a track run it's the
23:24second time I've heard you
23:25mentioned it today but key quote
23:27from there from Lando is Lando
23:29saying that Oscar didn't do that
23:30what looked like a nothing really
23:31lock-up on purpose sorry that Oscar
23:34didn't do that in qualifying because
23:36I think Mark Hughes in motorsport
23:37magazine has posited the question
23:39was that intentional from Oscar
23:41well in trying to in wanting to
23:44ruin Lando's lap in qualifying
23:46intentionally or not Lando didn't
23:48get the toe and therefore you know
23:49qualified a lot lower than he
23:52should yeah I did actually I caught
23:54up with Oscar for paddock pass you'll
23:56see he was trying to go to the
23:57toilet and I doorstop stopped him a
23:59little bit and and I was saying to
24:02him that's squabbling the paddock
24:04past that exactly interrupting
24:05someone who wants to go and take a
24:07break it was paddock thou shalt not
24:10pass trust me um yeah that's
24:12squabbling at the end did it cost you
24:14in your battle with Max and Oscar was
24:16well not really you know with Max would
24:19have been a bit bit further away from
24:20us had he not have made a mistake at
24:22turn one and got onto the broken up
24:24track we couldn't really have
24:26slingshot at each other past Max and
24:28stayed ahead of him he didn't seem to
24:30have too many problems with what was
24:31going on and and quite enjoyed the
24:33racing to be fair what about McLaren
24:35here can they pick up on the on the
24:38winning streak I mean Lando he said he
24:40was in a bit of a bad mood because he
24:41had still had marketing to do and he
24:44didn't want to do it and was annoyed
24:46about it but he wasn't exactly full of
24:48the delights of autumn said every driver
24:51ever yeah it's it's one of those things
24:53but I think this is going to be an
24:55interesting weekend for McLaren there is
24:57a mix of corners here as we know the
25:00street element of I think their car if
25:02anything I think looks quite consistent
25:04and that might work quite well on a
25:07track like this the fact that it seems
25:09that they can position it well and lap
25:12on lap seems to give them what they're
25:14expecting from a car and that's they've
25:16got confidence in what the car is going
25:18to do which I think is very very
25:20important on a street track and and that
25:23I think will play into them okay all
25:25right it's all going of course Lando is a
25:27friend of the science family just go
25:29around Lee oh you saw it earlier is
25:32that a conversation about Formula One
25:33the mattering or golf well can I plug
25:36something now it might be a conversation
25:38about how good I was in the and Dakar
25:41rally car where Carlos signs earlier that's
25:43probably what he's probably saying
25:43Bernie was a great passenger were you a
25:46great passenger you're not normally a
25:48very good passenger all right don't go
25:50too closely you don't want to hear what
25:51they're saying it's private conversation
25:52right and finally we will end with a
25:55lovely little story about another son in
26:00Formula One we've had Graham and Damon
26:02Hill we've had Nico and Keke Rosberg we've
26:05had Yoss and Max Verstappen and and we
26:08now have Robin they're not father and son
26:12Robin and Kimi Raikkonen and Robin
26:15Raikkonen and Robin Raikkonen has now been
26:18signed as you can tell by those photos to the
26:20Red Bull young driver program there he is
26:23Laura McKees and he says his favorite
26:26driver Robin Raikkonen isn't Kimi or
26:29Kimi Antonelli it's Max Verstappen oh
26:31well he's in the right team that isn't
26:33he he is and Max was asked hang on hold
26:35on to that thought Crofty Max was asked
26:37any advice to young Robin Raikkonen given
26:40that he's his favorite driver I think he
26:44has already good advice from from his own
26:46father but you know that you're his hero
26:48yeah yeah I quickly spoke to them also
26:51before the race in Monza because they were
26:53there and yeah it's cool to see I knew that
26:56he was getting signed so of course as a
26:58kid also you know it's really cool to sign
27:00for a Formula One team but at the end of
27:01the day you have to just go back to your
27:03performances you know you have to just
27:05focus on what is ahead of you and in go
27:07karting and that's you know I'm sure you
27:10know with Kimi they talk about that a lot so
27:12I don't need to worry about that you know
27:13they're very focused on performance making
27:15sure that he's learning and getting better and
27:18what I like is also that he's doing a lot of
27:20different kind of racing you know it
27:22doesn't matter what kind of car like Kimi
27:23puts him in and he does his thing and it's
27:25cool to see because it reminds me a little
27:27bit of how I grew up as well like just
27:29racing anything you know like it doesn't
27:30matter and I think it's very important
27:33also for your development car control in
27:37general so yeah it's very nice and it's of
27:40course great that he is in the Red Bull family and I hope for
27:44him of course now that yeah he just keeps growing keeps getting better every single
27:47year this is brilliant news for Formula One potentially in the future
27:54because wouldn't it be magnificent if Robby
27:57Räikkönen is good enough well I'm calling him Robby
27:59Räikkönen because he sounds like a proper hero proper racing driver Robby
28:02Räikkönen Ace Räikkönen Ace Räikkönen no if he's good
28:05enough wouldn't it be great to see him on the grid and Kimi looks pleased as punch
28:09because someone else is going to pay for his junior career fantastic and I think
28:13anyone has followed Kimi for a long time he's been posting a lot of his kids he's
28:17got a little girl as well doing all sorts of activities he's a bit of
28:20motocross just everything and I think that's like back to
28:24stuff and stuff great experience yeah Rihanna of course the family Räikkönen good
28:28lovely stuff there you can see the times that we are up for we're not even
28:31going to bother with the usual pre weekend predictions because it's a bit of a
28:37crazy track and we don't know what's going to happen but three flags three
28:40reflect so at least but we look forward to having your company throughout the
28:44weekend from us all here it's bye for now
