High temperatures from Missouri to Texas could break century-old records this week.
Transcript
00:00We've had impressive flood and showers and thunderstorms out there.
00:04So here you can see, it really looks like a dry, parched backyard,
00:07but we could use some heavy rain.
00:09We just don't want to deal with flash flooding.
00:10And there is going to be a localized flash flood threat in some parts of the south-central U.S.
00:15Again, kind of a moisture-starved lawn there, not so green.
00:20We're going to be dealing with localized heavy rain in some of these areas in the south-central.
00:24But overall, some rain might be a welcome thing because it's been so hot out there.
00:29We have widespread areas of heat.
00:31And as we look ahead to Wednesday, this is tomorrow's high-temperature forecast,
00:36and then the records for September 9th.
00:39The record's September 9th is 102, and Little Rock are going to be around 99.
00:42So not quite as hot as it was 101 years ago, but it is going to be really hot there.
00:46In Springfield, we expect to break the record high.
00:49100 would do it.
00:50The record's 98.
00:51Oklahoma City, 102.
00:52The record high is 99 for September 9th.
00:55Tulsa, we should break the record from way back in 1909.
00:58On September 9th in 1909, we were at 102.
01:01We're going 103 tomorrow.
01:02And in Dallas, close to a record, almost up there to match 1954.
01:07Overall, again, localized showers, thunderstorms.
01:11We're going to be dealing with more heat than anything else here in the south-central U.S.
01:15And there are some showers and storms on Wednesday.
01:17Returning to Houston, there will be some travel delays there.
01:20And again, in the area around Houston and Austin, into Thursday, storms become a bit more numerous into north Texas.
01:27And then into Friday, scattered showers in some spots.
01:30But the bulk of the area here is going to be dealing with some widespread heat here into west-central
01:36parts of Texas.
01:37So that's a big story.
01:38So that's a big story.
