00:00It's Oregon who play in the game with the shortest number,
00:03hosting a team that a lot of people actually think can make
00:07the college football playoff in Boise State.
00:09They are supposed to be the best team in the newfound Pac-12,
00:13and it could give Boise a clean path.
00:16Though, I'm not so sure getting absolutely drilled in week one to Oregon
00:24is something that will be easily forgiven
00:27when people decide who gets that last spot.
00:32So, I think this is a big game for Boise State.
00:35I don't particularly love them in this spot,
00:38but talk to me about this game, David,
00:41or maybe even just where you sit on this Oregon program heading into this season.
00:47I actually would not be surprised at all
00:49if the Big Ten went four straight years with four different winners
00:53because I absolutely love this Oregon team.
00:55I think Dan Lanning has gotten this team close before,
00:58and it's always, can you get over that step?
01:01And, you know, two years ago, they were number one in the country,
01:04won the Big Ten, and then, you know,
01:05it had such a bad draw in the playoff that they had to change the rules of the playoff
01:10because they then wound up drawing Ohio State,
01:12who shouldn't have been a number eight team,
01:15which is, that's just dumb, as they changed the rules.
01:17You got Dante Morbac.
01:19You got a loaded team out there.
01:21They're right there toe for toe.
01:22If you look at the most talented teams in the country,
01:25I think they come out and drill Boise State today.
01:28I'm not going to lie and tell you that the hook at 24 and a half doesn't bother me
01:31and makes me double think it,
01:33but if you were to tell me that Oregon comes out there and wins this game 41 to 10,
01:37I'm not going to be surprised.
01:38It was tighter than people expected last year in this game,
01:42so you got to think about that,
01:43but I just think this Oregon team has everything it needs to have
01:47to go win the Big Ten, get to the playoff, and win the national title,
01:50and if you told me that the Big Ten won it again and it was Oregon,
01:54I would say I can absolutely see that.
01:56I think this will be the most fascinating race of the year
01:59between Indiana, Ohio State, and Oregon,
02:01and I say that as an SEC homer who has for years said SEC, SEC, SEC.
02:07Well, the Big Ten has proved its chops.
02:08They've won three straight national titles,
02:10and you used to say, well, the SEC's top-heavy.
02:13Well, now the Big Ten's top-heavy, and they've gotten there
02:16because I look at the SEC as a two-team race,
02:18and we've talked about Georgia and Texas,
02:19but Indiana, Ohio State, and Oregon is a great big three.
02:23I actually think Oregon's the best of the three.
02:27So I think this Oregon team, I mean, they're clearly loaded, right?
02:32They're very, very balanced.
02:34There are two things that I specifically, though, find my –
02:37and again, like when we do this with these teams, right,
02:40like you're splitting hairs.
02:42They're all good.
02:42I think they're all college football playoff teams,
02:45but there were two things for Oregon that I just was not thrilled with.
02:48One is the loss of the coordinators.
02:50That matters.
02:52You know, maybe people can tell me I'm scarred
02:54because I watched the Philadelphia Eagles lose coordinators,
02:56and, you know, it does not go well when you lose good ones,
03:00and they lost good ones, right?
03:02The real programs, you know, with Will Stein maybe being in the biggest,
03:06heading over to Kentucky.
03:07There's real buzz in Lexington around that football program,
03:11and I think that can be difficult to replicate.
03:14You know, Nick Saban, who, you know,
03:16we've now probably talked more about than I even thought we would,
03:18but it's fine for arguably the GOAT.
03:21Saban, you know, churning out new coordinator year after –
03:26like it was a different time, right?
03:28You could – like Davos Sweeney's not recovered
03:32since Brett Venables left his side in Clemson.
03:35So, you know, with Tosh gone, and again, we'll see them in action tonight
03:40with Cal and UCLA, and I think that matters.
03:44The other thing that I keep a little bit at arm's length with Oregon is
03:49I think Dante Moore gets discussed in a way that is very similar to Drew Aller
03:55and is completely detached from reality.
03:58It's like, ah, Dante Moore, man, future first round based on what, guys?
04:03Because, like, Dante Moore last year got into the college football playoff
04:07and started throwing it to the other team with regularity.
04:10So, I think they'll look good today.
04:13I played an Oregon first-half team total over.
04:15I think that they've always started very, very fast in Eugene.
04:19I think that'll be the case here.
04:21But I am not in lockstep with everyone else that Oregon are going to kind of,
04:28you know, roll here and find themselves national champions at the end.
04:32Dan Lanning also gets a level of grace that some coaches could dream for.
04:38Like, it's pretty funny that we just went back-to-back talking about
04:40Kalen DeBoer being fired and Dan Lanning winning a national championship
04:44when Kalen DeBoer flatly owned Dan Lanning twice in a season
04:51that Oregon were big favorites to win those two football games.
04:56like, have different amassed.
04:56Please send an email tocomes those seats.
