Nancy, the misunderstood hyena daughter of clan leader Geena, is remembered in a moving tribute as Kevin Richardson says goodbye to one of the sanctuary’s most unforgettable characters. The video reflects on her sudden passing, later revealed to be a heart attack, and on the wild, unpredictable energy that made her both challenging and deeply memorable.

Kevin shares how Nancy was never fully trusting, often curious, sometimes erratic, and frequently at the center of trouble with Gina, Woody, and the rest of the clan. Even so, her intelligence, strong will, and fierce personality made her stand out. From tense interactions to her incredible nose for finding a buried egg in the sand and water, this hyena documentary-style tribute captures the power and complexity of animal behavior.

Nancy was not always easy to handle, but she taught important lessons about hyenas, dominance, trust, and survival at the wildlife sanctuary. This emotional wildlife narration blends animal tribute, sanctuary storytelling, and close-up behavioral observation in a way that will resonate with viewers who follow Kevin Richardson and big cat and hyena conservation content.

For fans of hyena videos, wildlife tributes, animal behavior stories, Kevin Richardson narration, and emotional sanctuary documentaries, this is a powerful remembrance. It also suits viewers searching for hyena clan stories, nature commentary, wildlife rescue and conservation content, and heartfelt animal tribute videos.

00:00She's had this this element of fear where she won't, she doesn't quite know
00:05what I'm gonna do. I suppose it's an element of distrust. Never, never, never
00:11ever, never, ever, ever. You are a champion. Hey, wow. She's always been a
00:19little bit curious, never really totally trusting. You walk up with such confidence.
00:27Hey Nancy. Hi guys. Yeah, warm welcome to subscribers, members and of course pride
00:36leaders. Today's a bit of a sad video. It's a tribute video to one of the
00:42younger animals at the sanctuary. A tribute video to Nancy who actually just
00:48passed suddenly. It was very unexpected and I suppose that makes it all the more
00:56tragic because you are never expecting the younger animals to pass suddenly. We
01:03always are in anticipation of the older animals passing. So unfortunately, yeah,
01:10Nancy did pass and an autopsy revealed that in fact it was a heart attack. So it was
01:18nothing untoward other than natural causes. Very rare for a hyena to pass away from a
01:27heart attack but anything can happen. So yeah, let's remember Nancy. I think for all
01:34of you who watch the channel regularly will know that Nancy was a little bit of a
01:39troublemaker. So, oh look at those teeth. She wants to say that she still has amazing teeth
01:48for her age. One would consider Gina to be a grandma of hyenas. You see they don't
01:57like the brush, they like my hand. But Gina is the matriarch of the clan and she
02:03always has been. Don't dare cause trouble here, Nancy Pansy. Nancy is trying to steal my camera.
02:12Never a dull moment when Nancy is around. Wants to make it all about her. And what's happened,
02:20we'll get to you Nancy. We'll get to you. How's your back doing? She had a bit of a
02:26bite on her back the other day. Just talking about Gina. She's the matriarch. She always
02:30has been. She hasn't been overthrown. She kind of rules with an iron fist. Anyone who
02:37gets in her way will be brutally sorted out. So make no mistake, her kindness is
02:46because she likes me. She's not that kind to clan members that step out of line.
02:53Including her daughter, Nancy. Nancy Pansy. And Nancy is next in line. Nancy is coming on
03:07eight years of age. She's a rather big, rather large hyena. So she has been challenging mom
03:15a bit. There's always this nervousness between her and myself. And it's kind of strange because
03:31other hyenas have really calmed down in the past to the extent that you could actually scratch
03:38them under the chin and on the neck. But Nancy's always had this kind of, she's had this element
03:48of fear where she won't, she doesn't quite know what I'm going to do. I suppose it's an
03:52element of distrust. That she will get to a point where you could touch her on her face
03:58or on her nose. But as soon as you start to try and scratch, then she does that kind of
04:03behavior.
04:04So it's truly a wild characteristic in Nancy. And some days she's really chilled and curious.
04:14But then other days she's a little bit erratic. And that is the issue really with a hyena like
04:22Nancy. Because what could quite easily happen is she could, she can mistake a gesture for
04:33something threatening. And then that could end badly. So one has to have a healthy respect
04:42for her personality. She was not super friendly with me. We had our moments. But she was, you
04:52know, not my best friend. And yeah, she was often causing trouble with Gina and Gina would
05:00put her in her place. Which would result in Dr. Caldwell having to be called out. And also,
05:07her and Woody were always bickering. And I suppose it's because there was this whole dominance
05:15thing going on with her. Happy birthday, Nancy. Yeah, it's your birthday. Not that you would
05:23know or care. Hello birthday girl. Hello. Happy birthday. 10. I can't believe you're 10. It just
05:34seems like yesterday you were causing trouble. Trouble in paradise.
05:44Alright, so Nancy is, as you can see, she's not always the friendliest of characters.
05:54Don't you bite her? No. Hey, don't you bite her? No. You're naughty. Hello Woody. She's a naughty
06:10girl. You can see the pink mark on her back from where she was. Yeah. It's getting really,
06:20really rowdy. Don't get rowdy. You can see the pink mark on her back from when she has been
06:27getting into fights with the group. And it's mainly actually from her mom, Gina, who's been
06:37putting her in her place because she is always trying to become top dog. And then in turn,
06:44what she does is she starts to bite and you can see Woody's back here. So she starts to try
06:50and bite
06:50Woody on the back and then Gina also gets stuck in. So she's a real little troublemaker, Nancy. And
07:03what's-his-name always just tends to stay on the fringes. So Ringo stays on the fringes. She's
07:10starting to cause trouble with Woody. It's just incredible. I don't know how you tolerate that,
07:16my girl. Don't tolerate that. That's not to be tolerated. No. Disgusting behaviour. Hasn't changed
07:30in her life. She's always been a little bit curious. Never really totally trusting. And I've never really
07:40totally trusted her either. She's just such a horrible girl at times. Hey, you walk up with such confidence.
07:51Hey, Nancy. But there's the boss. Hello, boss. Let's see. Maybe we're going to get a ceremonial greeting.
07:58Yes, we are. So Gina's getting Nancy, her daughter, to lift her leg. Nancy's not really playing ball.
08:14Gina, you're a funny girl. Yeah.
08:21So there's old Nancy feeling Woody's wound, which makes me think that it was Gina who probably inflicted
08:29that wound on Woody. She's moving off. Yeah, Nancy was cheeky, cocky, rambunctious, kept everyone on their
08:38toes. But I suppose that is what we loved about her. Not every animal at the sanctuary can be easy
08:46going.
08:46And so we all appreciated and loved Nancy for her character. I'm just keeping an eye on Nancy.
08:57She seems to be the one that's really into this game. Let's see what we can do. I don't want
09:03her to
09:04even, I don't even want Nancy to see me doing something here. So I'm just going to pretend I'm
09:09walking away. Let her disappear somewhere else. And then I'm going to hide the egg.
09:23You can see that nose is always doing something.
09:27She is not stopping, sniffing, sniffing. Look at that nose. It is sniffing, sniffing, sampling, sampling.
09:36She's continually sampling the air. Okay, she's walking away. I'm going to be very quiet.
09:47Okay, so I buried it.
10:01Look at her, following her nose, following her nose. No ways. No, no, no ways guys. No ways. Never,
10:14never, never, never, ever, never, ever, ever. Guys, did you see that?
10:30I can't believe that. Nancy, you are a champion. That is incredible. Guys, I'm sorry. I buried that
10:40egg in the sand, in the water. Not only in the water, I buried it in the sand. And she
10:45found that
10:46in less than four minutes. Nancy, you are a champion. Hey, wow. Even Kev's impressed with that.
10:58Wow, what a sniffer dog. Where have you been, Gina? Lazy? Man, oh man. Okay, guys. I think if that
11:05doesn't demonstrate the power of the hyena's sense of smell, then I don't know what will. I mean,
11:10I ran out of superlatives to describe these animals. It's just incredible. For that, I think I'm going
11:16to give them all a little treat. Nancy has done her species proud. I'm serious, guys. That has blown
11:25even my mind away. Okay, I've never seen anything quite like that. To find that buried in the water
11:34under some mud. I'm staggered. I'm stunned. Yeah, she will be sorely missed and certainly
11:43she was an animal, as I said, that kept us all on our toes. But more than that, I think
11:50Nancy
11:50taught us a lot about hyenas and hyena behavior. And I think she was a character that many of you
11:59came to appreciate over the years and did ask after when she wasn't seen in videos. So, yeah.
12:10Guys, know this. Nancy will never be forgotten. And until next time, from me, Kevin. Ciao.
12:18Me.
12:43Thanks for having me.
12:44So, I'm here.
12:44I'm here.
