00:00Doug Carr, Scott Anderson out today. Stoney is in, 248-539-9797. Hope everybody's safe out there.
00:08Boy, storms, the wind yesterday, there were tornadoes, and I know a lot of people have had a lot of
00:16damage, fallen trees.
00:18Someone on the way to work closed a road. We had a lot of debris, big branches down, but didn't
00:25lose a tree, thankfully.
00:27You know it's bad because in this studio, this complex, on Fridays, a lot of the people aren't here.
00:35They work from home. A lot of people here today. I'm trying to figure out why. It's because they lost
00:40their power.
00:42248-539-9797. All right, here's a bunch of predictions coming in.
00:46Donnie and Fort Myers in a truck. Michigan will go 8-4 because they won't pull Bryce when they should,
00:53and Tommy Carr will take over, but it'll be too late in a couple of games.
00:56Michigan State, I don't care at all, 6-6.
00:59The Bryce thing is interesting. There are a lot of people that have quick-triggered on Bryce analysis,
01:05and I would just say this. People did the same thing with J.J. McCarthy.
01:12I remember being told that J.J. McCarthy was overrated, and his college career turned out to be exceptionally good.
01:20Very, very good. He was a really good game manager to a certain extent because that's what they did.
01:27He led a team to a national championship.
01:30Yes.
01:30The throws he needed to make.
01:31Exactly.
01:31And put together the drive they needed to put together in the Rose Bowl, but I don't, and that's fine.
01:38I mean, again, people have their beliefs. I think if you look at the career arc of a lot of
01:42highly touted freshmen,
01:44really highly touted freshmen from Tebow to Arch Manning to J.J., the ones that had the most success had
01:53veteran teams around him.
01:54Bryce did not have that last year. It's tough. Arch Manning was a part-timer.
01:58Tim Tebow was a part-timer. Dante Moore had a share of struggles. Very similar numbers to J.J., his
02:03freshman year.
02:04Oh, yeah. And he transferred.
02:06Yep. So this is no guarantee that he's going to live up to the hype and the expectation,
02:13but I'm a little surprised at how people quickly make these judgments.
02:18But, hey, look, it's good to have two quarterbacks, and Tommy Carr shows a lot of promise.
02:23Yeah.
02:23Just a freshman, though.
02:25Tom, via X, answered the whole template.
02:27Michigan will go 9-3.
02:29The most interesting player outside of the quarterback is John Henry Daly.
02:32He's the 10-1⁄2 sack edge rusher they got from Utah.
02:37Strength of the team will be the running game.
02:38My concern is Bryce, and I'd like to see them schedule a home-and-home with Tennessee.
02:43Yeah, that'd be pretty cool.
02:46Wave Yee on X says 9-3 for Michigan with losses to Oregon, Ohio State, and one of Oklahoma or
02:53Indiana.
02:54Most interesting player that's not the quarterback is Savion Hyder.
02:57Strength of the team is the running back and wide receiver room.
03:00My concern is Bryce and the schedule.
03:03I'd like to see him schedule more with Notre Dame.
03:06Well, you're going to get that in two years, right?
03:09I think it's further down the road.
03:11Oh, okay.
03:12I don't think we're going to get, unless it happens in the playoff, at some point, a Tommy versus CJ
03:16matchup.
03:17Oh.
03:18Steven on X is a Michigan State fan.
03:21Says they'll go 7-5.
03:22Most interesting player that's not the quarterback is Kenny Soares.
03:25The strength of the team is the running back.
03:27The weakness of the team is concern is the wide receiver, and he'd like to see them schedule a home
03:32-and-home with North Carolina.
03:35Why?
03:38I don't know.
03:39Usually it's programs you've never seen your team play.
03:42Yeah, but it's usually more high-caliber programs than North Carolina.
03:47Maybe he wants to go to Chapel Hill.
03:49Maybe he's a Belichick guy.
03:52I don't know.
03:53Cam on Twitter, Michigan 9-3.
03:56Most interesting player that's not the quarterback, J.J. Buchanan.
04:01Strength of the team, we finally have a competent head coach.
04:04Concerned, tight end, home-and-home with Utah.
04:08Oh, Utah looked pretty good last night.
04:11Who are they playing?
04:12Idaho.
04:12Yeah, I know.
04:15So, J.J. Buchanan, by all reports, hasn't dropped a pass since he got here.
04:21And they had a drop problem at the wide receiver position last year.
04:26And this kid has immediately risen to the top of the depth chart.
04:32He's going to be fun, I think, for fans to watch.
04:35As always, you've got to do it on game days against live competition.
04:40But if practice is any indication, this guy's a weapon.
04:44I was thinking about tight end as well.
04:46But I think Marshall's pretty good.
04:48And, you know, Tonelli and what the hell?
04:51I forget the other guy's name.
04:53Hogan Hanson.
04:54Hogan Hanson, yeah.
04:55They're very competent.
04:57I wouldn't worry about tight end.
04:58Look, is he going to be, you know, Loveland, Jake Butt, Jeremy Tooman?
05:02You know, I doubt it.
05:05But he was pretty good last year, I thought.
05:07Well, they've got a bunch of candidates, okay?
05:10Right.
05:11And I feel like they all have strengths and weaknesses that they might be able to rotate them through to
05:17take advantage of their strengths.
05:18You mentioned Deacon Tonelli.
05:20I think Zach Marshall might be their most complete guy.
05:22Right.
05:22I could be wrong on that.
05:23They've got Eli Owens in there, Hogan Hanson, Jalen Hoffman, who's more of the Max Bredesen role.
05:30They've got a freshman named Mason Bonner, who's 6 feet 7 inches tall.
05:34And I have also seen him make some, I mean, contested catches are a thing.
05:38You have to be able to help your quarterback out at times.
05:41And both he and J.J. Buchanan look capable of that, from what I have seen.
05:45So keep your eye on Bonner.
05:48Matt's a Michigan State fan says, record 6-6.
05:51Most interesting player, not the quarterback, Cam Edwards.
05:54Strength of the team, running back.
05:56Concern, biggest concern, secondary.
05:59And I'd like to see Michigan State have a home-and-home with Clemson.
06:04Okay.
06:04That'd be fun.
06:05Yeah.
06:07248-539-9797.
06:09You can fill out that template on Twitter, at DougNgator971.
06:13And we'll read a bunch of your answers on the air.
06:14And we are recording all of your predictions from Michigan to Michigan State that we will revisit at the end
06:19of the year.
06:21From an unnamed, I'm sorry, no, this is from Jeff in Berkeley.
06:23At Lions tailgates for night games, we usually get there at 3.30 or 4.
06:28We get there at 9.30 a.m. for a 1 o'clock kickoff.
06:32That's customary.
06:34My biggest problem getting for tailgates for Michigan is I like to get there early, just so I don't have
06:40to deal with the traffic.
06:41And my wife just, she, you know, why do we have to be here four hours in advance?
06:46Well, because, you know, I'd rather be there four hours in advance than sit in traffic on 14.
06:52I'd rather sit right here than sit in my car?
06:54Yes.
06:56My internet has been out since 9 p.m.
06:59Last night.
06:592K27 is calling my name.
07:01Hurry up, Xfinity.
07:02That's from Troy in Lincoln Park.
07:06From an unnamed text, the storms have been crazy.
07:09Between the power outages and the debris, it's been absolutely insane.
07:12We also had our gas line rupture outside our house yesterday.
07:16Have a work crew come out to prepare the line.
07:19It's been a very bizarre week.
07:20By the way, if you're a fan of Michigan State tonight, I mean, you better, if you had a power
07:27problem, you better hope it gets turned on in time when you have to go somewhere else to watch the
07:32game.
07:33Well, that was Evan's concern when he got in today.
07:35He lost power.
07:37He was going to work from home today, but he's here.
07:40So they got till 8 o'clock tonight.
07:42Yeah.
07:43Tailgating for the Spartan game today.
07:45Getting set up at 2 p.m.
07:47My prediction for the game is the Spartans by 14, and the Spartans will go 6-6 this season.
07:52That's from Mark.
07:52That means they cover, because it's, I think, 10-1⁄2, I believe.
07:57It's a really difficult game to call, because, quite frankly, it's hard to know what either team is bringing to
08:05the table.
08:05I mean, Michigan State's got 32 transfers, 15 on defense.
08:09I mean, who knows how good they are?
08:13You always hope that the new guys you bring in are better than the guys that were here the year
08:18prior, but only time will tell.
08:21And unless you're going to go and spend time scouting game film from where they play at the previous stops.
08:31From an unnamed texter, college football is impossible to bet now.
08:34It's just crazy not knowing anything about these teams.
08:37Well, maybe betting the first week may be ridiculous, which is also the NFL, the problem with survivor pools.
08:44The first week is always dangerous.
08:46You win one?
08:48Mm-hmm.
08:48Okay.
08:49You win more than one?
08:50Mm-hmm.
08:52Kang, you win one?
08:53No, unfortunately not this year.
08:54I used to do the, I've done the circle one before.
08:56That was, it's, survivor pools are great.
08:58They are kind of fun and just, just got to pick a winner.
09:01Don't worry about the spread.
09:02Just, just win and move on.
09:04Survive in advance, Doug.
09:05So people who don't know how survivor pool works, you, all you got to do is pick a winner in
09:09the NFL.
09:10Just pick a team that's going to win.
09:12And if that team wins, you survive in advance to the next week.
09:16However, you cannot select that same team again.
09:19Correct.
09:20So there's a strategy to it.
09:22Of course, you're looking ahead at the schedule, things like that.
09:24And you take who's playing the Jets or who's playing Arizona.
09:29From Tom in Flat Rock, the game was entertaining, but seeing Justice Haynes lined up behind Fernando Mendoza's brother and
09:36all the other player moves, it was, wait, he's here?
09:39Wait, when did he leave?
09:41I can still enjoy, enjoy the game, but it takes effort.
09:44Yeah, it takes a little bit more work to become an influence fan.
09:4897-1.
