00:00Hello Mary Kay. Hello guys, how you doing? We're doing well. Did assistant GM Catherine Hickman
00:05step in it by accident yesterday? Were their trade offers made for Dylan Gabriel or perhaps
00:12Shador Sanders? Oh you know what? They may have received some calls for a quarterback. I don't
00:21know yet because I haven't been able to figure that out quite yet but no I think she was just
00:26saying that's not my she clarified that that is not her lane and so she kind of stayed out of
00:33that
00:33and I think that was the right thing to do. Mary Kay did you think that some people went too
00:39far
00:39criticizing an executive's wardrobe during a press availability? Was that going too far? Yes
00:47absolutely 100 percent that was going too far. I mean my goodness this this woman is so intelligent
00:55she speaks I think four languages. She's a great talent evaluator. She's got three young children
01:03and I'm sure that the last thing on her mind when she left the house in the morning was
01:10making sure that she had the perfect appropriate outfit on that Twitter was going to love. I mean
01:17it's just ridiculous and then if one person makes a comment then everybody has to pile on and that's
01:23just the world that we live in right now but I think it's horrible because she's just a fantastic
01:30personnel executive and any team would be just thrilled to have her. Kenny should we feel bad
01:37platforming a discussion like that in the first place for those that want to go back and use the
01:41rewind function of the app? There's a public press conference there was conversation about it we we
01:46let both sexes in to talk about it I felt that it was responsible. I think Mary Kay it was
01:51the fact that
01:52more so the language on the sweatshirt than the tatters on the sweatshirt. That's actually true
01:59because if it would have said well I don't know. Because it said Los Angeles right it had Los Angeles
02:05written on there. And so we were wondering well you know we were trying to draw conclusions about the
02:09Miles Garrett trade basically. I can I can almost promise you that she didn't give a whole bunch of
02:18thought to what she put on in the morning but I I'm guessing that she was probably thinking
02:22a whole lot about how the Browns could try to improve the roster about talent evaluation and all
02:28the other things that she does and she does very well. So if it was you know I have to
02:34wonder if a man
02:36had something on that people didn't absolutely love would it have taken off like that? I you know I don't
02:43I
02:43don't know. Well it depends on like when it comes to other hosts and stuff like that on the fan
02:47we
02:47rip them all the time for what they appear in on YouTube. Well you know it's just X is a
02:53place as we
02:54all know where haters go to hate and and I just feel really bad that somebody that intelligent that
03:02accomplished would have to deal with something like this when she comes out to talk to us and give
03:08thoughts on on the roster and things like that. It's just it's really unfortunate. Well let me ask
03:13you this though. Did it raise your eyebrows when Dylan Gabriel ended up on the IR? Seemed rather
03:18convenient to some fans. Yeah it did. It raised a little bit of eyebrows for me for sure but they
03:26found a way to you know to keep all four quarterbacks for right now and to delay this decision on
03:32what to
03:32do with Taylin Green because he is absolutely an intriguing prospect and he can do so many things
03:39once he's ready. So yeah it did but whatever you know whatever it takes and yes I'm sure he did
03:47hurt
03:47his back of course but it also was nice and convenient for them. Should they consider should they have
03:55considered the fans opinion when picking their starting quarterback? Lyme and I as much as we are fans and
04:02we get along with the fans we still said no. Mike Florio thinks different. Mike Florio said yes they
04:07should have considered the fans reaction when they made their choice. Well certainly this is a very
04:12unique situation because this this is not like anything any of us have ever seen before where the
04:20town just hates the quarterback or really dislikes the quarterback it seems. So this is different but no
04:28I don't think that Todd Munkin should have taken into account the fan reaction and I like the fact
04:34that he has stuck to his guns on that and who would he be as an NFL head coach if
04:41he's going to be swayed
04:42by the fans opinion. I mean the fans wanted Johnny Manziel to start right away and the fans wanted
04:48Johnny Manziel all the way through right and was that the wisest decision at that time or perhaps
04:55should Brian Hoyer have continued on that season. You don't do what the fans want or don't want.
05:02That's not how you conduct business. All right Mary Kay with us right now as you have gotten a chance
05:09to get the up close and personal uh looking into Todd Munkin in his first year as an NFL head
05:17coach
05:17a decision like Deshaun over Shador is certainly going to be the biggest but how do you feel like he's
05:23doing
05:24with all the other little intricacies uh that revolve around this football team?
05:29Well I think he's actually doing a great job so far. I think when I look at even the press
05:35conference
05:35uh the interview that Deshaun did after the Bills game that was a tough thing to navigate after that
05:41and I thought he came out the next day Todd and I thought he did a phenomenal job of backing
05:47his quarterback
05:48and taking the temperature down on that very volatile situation I just thought he handled it
05:54really really well. That was a tough one and I think uh the message that he's sending it for them
06:01is uh you know togetherness close ranks family and then he preaches this all the time eliminate
06:08anything that gets in the way of winning football and I think that's a guiding light for him and there
06:13are going to be bumps in the road there always are for first-time head coaches when you think about
06:18what he's had to deal with so far they've traded Miles Garrett their number two edge rusher suffered a
06:24ruptured Achilles their potential well not their potential now but at the time their potential starting
06:30quarterback uh is at war with the fan base these are big issues that he has to deal with and
06:37I was
06:37thinking about this the other day they thought about hiring some really really young and inexperienced
06:43football coaches to lead this team this year and I don't know if some of those young guys would have
06:48been able to navigate and handle some of these big issues handling adversity is probably in my mind
06:55the number one thing that you have to deal with as a head football coach in the NFL it is
07:01not easy
07:02they don't know the full impact of it until they get in that chair they don't realize how many fires
07:09that they have to put out on a daily basis and so far I think he's done a really great
07:14job
07:14how soon could Parker Brailsford and Austin Barber be a part of the starting offensive line
07:20well I mean Austin possibly even by the opener the way that Todd Monken was talking about it
07:26this week and last week and Parker Brailsford they love him they absolutely love him but he was set
07:33back by a wrist injury throughout camp so he's going to need a little bit of time and I don't
07:39know that you want three rookies on your line right away but I could certainly see it in the second
07:44half
07:44of the season they love all of these guys all right what is the role going to be uh at
07:50least at the start
07:51of the season for somebody like Talon Green is it just going to be to kind of be on the
07:56team not
07:56necessarily active on game days or are they going to do everything they can to get him on the field
08:02especially for those red zone touches that we've been salivating over well like we've said before
08:08they've bought themselves some time to see what they can do to see what he can offer and contribute
08:14and now I mean they just really didn't have time to deal with him very much in training camp
08:18and while they were busy with their two-way quarterback competition I wrote a story about this this week
08:24that he was taking copious notes he was doing walkthroughs in his hotel room he was prepping for the
08:32next day with his new wife I mean this is a young man that works his absolute tail off and
08:38when you
08:38have that kind of work ethic and the kind of intelligence that he has then you can't put a cap
08:43or a ceiling on that these guys can come up the learning curve very very quickly so if he can
08:48demonstrate over the next three or four weeks that he can go out there and handle spot duty in a
08:54very
08:54critical situation I think they'll do it and it will also give the opposing defensive coordinator
09:01something to think about so yeah I would I would be aiming towards seeing if you can get him in
09:07a game
09:07to you know convert a fourth and one or score a touchdown on the goal line or something like that
09:13all right Mary Kay let's turn to Shador Sanders losing this quarterback battle but still being ready to go
09:21in any moment and knowing that could happen in week one something like that it's kind of new territory
09:27for him I remember last year reporters were still hounding him for quotes for sound bites even when he was
09:34the third string quarterback you know after games is is that experience going to be similar this year
09:40or do you think uh he'll kind of step away be out of the limelight and the reporters aren't going
09:45to bother
09:45him you know I don't know if hounding him is the right way to describe that I know that he
09:51was
09:52approached here and there a couple of times but I don't think hounding um is accurate in that regard
09:57and I was there most of the time so I think that he's just an approachable young man he likes
10:03to talk he
10:04likes to engage he likes to deal with uh you know media I mean he's just he grew up that
10:09way so he would
10:11occasionally talk to reporters when you know maybe he had you know he hadn't played or there was no
10:17real reason to talk to him but I don't think hounding is correct I think he's just someone
10:22that enjoys interaction with other human beings and therefore opens himself to that kind of thing
10:29sometimes do you think Todd Munkin's running maybe a tighter ship and is kind of uh making sure that
10:36everybody is to be maybe seen and not heard unlike it was under Kevin Stefanski where over time you
10:45would hear maybe something from somebody or like a Jadeveon Clowney in the past do you think it's a
10:51little bit different under Todd Munkin or is he still giving the players all the ability in the
10:56world to let their voices be heard if they want well first of all it must be remembered right now
11:02we have not had an open locker room yet we absolutely have not had that experience and
11:08that's a game changer right right now we're in a situation where they'll bring one or two guys to
11:14the podium and if you want someone else to do a longer feature about then you have to make a
11:19request
11:20and you know so whatever we have not had access to very many players yet on a regular basis so
11:26we'll
11:26have to see how that goes but I think that uh Todd Munkin is going to let these guys be
11:31themselves
11:32that's my prediction that that he's not going to shut them down he's not going to try to censor them
11:37or anything like that I think he will always preach uh protect the team in every way but I I
11:45don't
11:45think he's going to put the clamps on them Mary Kay Cabot joining us on the show what are they
11:49doing
11:49uh to get themselves acclimated yeah back-to-back weeks uh down in Florida uh it's going to be muggy
11:55like it is right now I know he's thankful that it's been muggy here this week and really really hot
12:00what else are they doing to get themselves ready well I think you know just mother nature like
12:05you said mother nature helped them more than anything they needed those sweltering days it was
12:10so hot out there uh yesterday that it had to be hard uh to be practicing in that weather because
12:16it
12:17was just hard to be even standing out there watching practice in that in that uh intense heat so that
12:23was
12:23helpful to them this week other than that there's nothing else much that they can do they're taking three
12:28days off for Labor Day weekend and I'm sure every single coach uh just crosses his fingers and hopes
12:34that everybody is safe I'm sure they will preach that when they send them forth today uh you know
12:40take care of yourself take care of each other and then come back ready to go because it is go
12:45time
12:45when they come back on Monday Mary Kay we thank you very much for the time all the best to
12:50you and
12:50yours and we'll talk to you again very soon sounds good thanks for having me guys
