00:00Ah, well, what are you going to do?
00:01All right, let's bring in Mary Kay Cabin on the Wise Heart, right?
00:04We make a right called Kyle Wright Hotline.
00:06She joins us right now at Cleveland Plain Dealer, cleveland.com.
00:09Hello, Mary Kay.
00:11Hey, guys.
00:12How you doing?
00:13Good.
00:13How much pressure is on the Browns to win this game down in Tennessee?
00:18I think it's a lot.
00:19I really do, because you have to remember, they're going to Pittsburgh after this.
00:24This kicks off a three-game road string.
00:27So you want to take this one.
00:28This is a game they absolutely should win, and they need to win.
00:33So I think the pressure is on.
00:37Pressure, pressure.
00:38Come on, Mary Kay.
00:39We've seen our Cleveland Browns handle pressure just fine in the fourth quarters,
00:44yet not everyone is a true believer in what they are doing.
00:48Pressure, schmesher.
00:49Is fourth quarter making up for the rest of the deficiencies in the offense?
00:55Well, you don't want to be living on an edge like that.
00:57You just don't want to have to do that each game.
01:00Now, it's remarkable that they've been able to pull it off, but you can't live and die
01:05by that.
01:05It's unsustainable.
01:07So they do have to figure out how to start faster, really on both sides of the ball, but certainly
01:13on offense.
01:14And one of the things they're going to have to do better is run the football.
01:18And I think they're getting there.
01:19And it should be better this week because Quinchon's going to be back, and Dylan Sampson is going to be
01:25back.
01:26And so now they've got the one-two sort of punch that they hope to have at the beginning of
01:31the season.
01:32They have that changeup.
01:34And then also along the way, the run blocking has gotten better.
01:38So they should be able to run the ball a little bit better, and that'll open things up for the
01:43passing game.
01:44But Jeffrey Simmons is going to be a load in the middle of that defense.
01:48Yes, he certainly is.
01:49Now, there were plenty of people saying that I could dream on if I wanted Mason Graham to play on
01:55Sunday.
01:55He was limited, though, in practice.
01:57Would you play him on Sunday against Tennessee?
02:00Yeah, I think I would go ahead and play him.
02:02He really wanted to play last week.
02:04And if he was that close to playing last week, then I think he will play this week.
02:08And you don't necessarily have to play him 100% of the snaps, but even playing him for a third
02:14or a half of the snaps,
02:16depending on how he's feeling, would be very, very beneficial.
02:19You know, I'm seeing a defense right now that has a swagger, carrying themselves a certain way.
02:24They're walking this way.
02:25It is awesome to see.
02:27Mary Kay, is this defense even better than some of the Jim Schwartz versions?
02:32Well, I've said this for a couple of weeks now that I actually really do think right now that this
02:39defense is better off without Miles Garrett.
02:42I really just think that they're playing together better.
02:45They're spreading the wealth.
02:46Yes, the numbers are still just where they were last year.
02:50Right now, they are second in the NFL with 19 sacks.
02:54That's one behind the Detroit Lions.
02:56And if you look at other metrics and analytics, they're right up there with where they were.
03:01And this is despite the fact that you don't have Miles Garrett.
03:05You don't have Alex Wright.
03:06Jared Wright doesn't have his first sack yet.
03:09Mason Graham has missed the last game and most of the previous one.
03:12And yet, they're kind of humming along.
03:15So, I think it's been pretty remarkable what they've been able to do.
03:19And I actually think just from a camaraderie and a tight-knit closeness that they have on this defense, I
03:27think they're better off.
03:28Mary Kay Cabot joining us here on the Wise Heart Right.
03:29We make it right.
03:30Call Kyle Wright hotline.
03:31A lot of back and forth with fans.
03:33Earlier today, Mary Kay, about Deshaun Watson.
03:36And whether or not they like him or they dislike him, it's like, well, they're 4-2.
03:41They're going to like the guy.
03:42But we did have one caller talking about, like, how he's back in the saddle.
03:46Is he getting anywhere near 2020?
03:49Or should we just, like, mark that off and go, hey, we need the 2026 version of Deshaun Watson.
03:54Because that's where I'm at on it.
03:56Well, I think you do need the 2026 version.
04:00But he is showing flashes of the quarterback that he was in Houston.
04:04The one that the Browns traded for.
04:07And remember, he's still knocking off the rust of being out of football for 22 months
04:12and having three surgeries over the past several years, including two on the Achilles.
04:17So he's still knocking off the rust and still figuring things out.
04:21But I do think that he hasn't gotten enough credit for the fourth quarter,
04:28for the four fourth quarter game-winning drives that he has executed.
04:32The difference in this team this year, the defense was really good last year and the year before.
04:36The difference this year is that they have a quarterback who's closing out the game in the fourth quarter.
04:42Most games are pretty darn close.
04:45So now he's coming through and he's closing out those football games.
04:49Of course, none of this would happen without the way that the defense is playing.
04:52We all know that.
04:53But now they do have a quarterback who's kind of lighting it up a little bit in the fourth quarter
04:59of these games.
05:00They would not, not be 4-2 without him.
05:02You know, the story came out over the last few days, Mary Kay, and I know you talked a little
05:07about this,
05:08the bonding, the team chemistry, guys going to a party that Deshaun Watson throws after the big win.
05:15Those players saying, I don't want to miss a thing when it comes to hanging out with my fellow teammates.
05:20So Mary Kay, is this indicative of a true leader of this organization?
05:27Well, yeah, and he's always been like that.
05:30That's always the player that he's been.
05:31If you look back to his first couple of years here, he was taking guys to work out in the
05:37offseason,
05:38you know, to the Bahamas and Puerto Rico and different things like that.
05:43He's always been pretty generous with his money in terms of hosting things and doing things like that.
05:50But so this is something that he probably would have done this last year or the year before
05:55had he been starting and winning and the leader of this football team.
05:59So this is not something new.
06:01This is not something he just pulled out of thin air.
06:04This is how he's really always operated.
06:07Mary Kay Cabot joining us on the Wise Heart Right.
06:10We make it right, call call right, hotline.
06:12How surprised were you to see the story about former Brown, Jordan Elliott?
06:16Jordan had a gun at practice the other day.
06:21And then Robert Sala said some really nice things about him.
06:24This is a bizarre situation that's going on with the former Cleveland Brown.
06:29Well, yes, I was very, very surprised.
06:31When Jordan was here, he was always very nice, very professional.
06:36Yeah.
06:36And you would never, right?
06:38I mean, you would never have guessed that he had anything like this going on.
06:42I know supposedly he has some off the field issues and whatnot.
06:47So, you know, you just never really know what's going on with the person.
06:50But yes, I was surprised about that.
06:52And I think it also is a reminder for everyone to make sure that you're checking in with people
06:56that you're close to.
06:58If you notice something, if you do, if you notice something about a person that seems off
07:03in some way, you know, check in, ask how they're doing.
07:07In my experience, a lot of players and a lot of young men don't really reach out to talk
07:13to people about how they're feeling.
07:15And they really need someone else to kind of sometimes reach that hand out to them.
07:20I want to ask you another question about Deshaun here in a moment.
07:22But let me ask you, let me go back to this.
07:24Like, you know, Robert Sala says such nice things.
07:28Like, hey, anybody needs a defensive tackle, call me.
07:30I'll tell you great things about him.
07:31It's like, well, can't we work this out then?
07:34Can this not be worked out?
07:35Like, you know, you understand what I'm saying?
07:39Like, okay, you get kicked off a bad football team.
07:41You're on a two-year contract.
07:43And it's like, well, why can't you work it out then?
07:48Well, sometimes a ship has sailed in an organization and it's time to move on.
07:53And maybe whatever was going on with those two players is untenable.
07:57And they just have to make sure that they're separate.
07:59I don't know what the situation is behind the scenes.
08:01But for whatever reason, Robert Sala believes he needs a change of scenery.
08:05And Robert would know.
08:07So I'm guessing that that would probably be best for all.
08:10So I got to ask you one question to move on to another question here.
08:14Do you think that the ship is stable for the Cleveland Browns?
08:17And this is before, I think we'll know a little bit more on Sunday if they win and they beat
08:21a team that they're supposed to beat.
08:22It's the first time they're favored, right?
08:24But let me ask you now.
08:25It might be a little unfair.
08:26Do you think the ship is stable for the rest of the season?
08:29Or could things get rocky at some point later on?
08:32Well, because the defense is playing so well, I think they can be in any game.
08:39What they need to do is for the offense to come together.
08:42And when I look out there, I see a pick-your-poison type of offense.
08:46There are so many weapons on this offense.
08:48It should be explosive at some point.
08:50But as Todd keeps saying, and I believe this too, it's under construction.
08:54It's coming together.
08:55They're figuring things out.
08:56Even Todd Munkin is figuring out his personnel for the first time as he goes through these games.
09:02He didn't know that Jerry Judy was going to be capable of what he has been in the heat of
09:07the moment when the game is on the line.
09:08And now he's saying, oh, geez, I think I should be using Jerry Judy a little bit more.
09:13So the coaching staff, in some respects, they're still getting to know these guys.
09:17They're trying to figure out, you know, what Quinshawn Judkins is going to do in a certain situation.
09:21Or, you know, who's great in the screen game.
09:24So it's really a work in progress.
09:27And I do think it's going to come together.
09:29I think that it has the makings of an explosive offense.
09:33But they have to find it.
09:34They have to figure it out.
09:35And as they go along, by the time they get to December, if they stay healthy, I think they can
09:42have something pretty good going on offense.
09:45And then at that point, I would think it would be sustainable.
09:47Well, the team seems to really be getting along.
09:49And, you know, you guys asked them the questions about the get-together that he had after the game on
09:56Sunday.
09:56And the whole team's with him and everything.
09:58Does that make, you know, I think his status is still, he's not on the thinnest ice anymore.
10:05But it's still, you know, it could still change.
10:09Does it make things more difficult for Todd Munkin now, maybe having to answer questions about QB changes or his
10:15future with the organization later on in the year?
10:18If he's asked those questions, knowing that, like, hey, they're kind of all buddies with him now.
10:23Does it make things more difficult and maybe even, not even answer the questions, but having to maybe make a
10:27tough decision like that and switching out the quarterback later on?
10:30Well, they've always been buddies with Deshaun Watson.
10:33And I think there's a misconception about his role on the team and his value on the team.
10:42The players have always, always liked Deshaun Watson.
10:45He mentored Shador last year.
10:47He mentored Dylan Gabriel last year.
10:49He mentors Talon Green and other young guys.
10:52So that's never been an issue at all.
10:54So I don't think that makes it awkward in any way, shape, or form.
10:58If Todd has to make a change, he'll make a change.
11:00We know by now that Todd blocks out the noise and does what he thinks is best for the football
11:05team.
11:06That's not going to be a problem.
11:07But for anybody to think that this is brand new, that Deshaun Watson is suddenly liked by his teammates or
11:13inside the organization, that's inaccurate.
11:19Trade deadline, Mary Kay.
11:21You're going to hear, obviously, a lot of names.
11:24We hear them every year, even when it doesn't seem like the Browns are very good.
11:27Now they're 4-2.
11:29How crazy are we going to get?
11:31How aggressive is Andrew Barry going to get?
11:35Well, I think they would like to be buyers in the trade market, but maybe not perhaps big, huge buyers
11:43where you're going to see some blockbuster things happening.
11:47But add some pieces here and there.
11:49I could see them doing that.
11:50I've been vocal about saying that they should try to trade for Khalil Mack.
11:53I really, really, truly believe that that would be good for this football team in so many ways, including helping
11:59to bring out the best in Jared Burst.
12:01I think if he had somebody over on the opposite side that was taking a little heat and pressure off
12:06of him, I think that would be tremendous for him.
12:09I also think it would be good for him when Mason and Mike Hall get back.
12:13You know, I think that will spread things out a little bit.
12:16But as far as trading Jerry Judy, that was never going to be in the cards.
12:20That was never going to happen.
12:22And Jerry Judy has always been very highly valued by the front office.
12:28And they need depth.
12:30I mean, he's the kind of guy that people do go out looking for or the Browns would go out
12:34looking for at the trade deadline.
12:36Not unloading a player like that.
12:38You need your depth.
12:39And this is also a football team that plays a lot of three-wides.
12:42They're playing four-wides, four-verts.
12:45You don't want to give up on a player like that.
12:48And Jerry has worked extraordinarily hard on his hands, even more so on his route running.
12:53He has great chemistry with Deshaun Watson.
12:55And Deshaun trusts him.
12:57Do you have a dog?
12:59I don't.
13:00I have two Himalayan cats.
13:02One Himalayan, one Persian.
13:05I don't even know what those look like.
13:07Now I've got to go look them up.
13:09What are Himalayan cats?
13:12I can't even spell Himalayan.
13:14I can spell cat.
13:15The Himalayan are white.
13:18And then they have colored points like their ears, their paws, and their nose.
13:22I'll send you a picture.
13:23Oh, my goodness.
13:25You know, they're the ones that end up on the front of the greeting cards.
13:28Yeah.
13:29Yeah, they're pretty.
13:31Oh, my goodness.
13:32And like dogs.
13:33They're very dog-like.
13:34They're very interactive.
13:35They need to be with you all the time.
13:37So they're very much like little dogs, actually.
13:40I was asking.
13:41So my dog keeps.
13:42I've had two mornings in a row where my dog has basically made the bedroom look like a murder scene,
13:46except with her bathroom problem, and I don't know what to do.
13:50The weather's getting bad, and she is dainty and doesn't like to go outside when it gets cold overnight.
13:56We're having a problem here, Mary Kay.
13:59Okay.
13:59Yeah.
14:01I mean, I can't put her in her house.
14:03She'll bark all night, and plus she's a nice puppy, and I don't want to put her in her house.
14:08I don't like her sleeping in the bed, though, because I'm afraid I'm going to roll over and kill her.
14:11I'm dead serious.
14:12I'm terrified of that.
14:15She's five pounds.
14:15No, you won't do that.
14:16Okay.
14:16You won't do that.
14:17You can have the dog in the bed.
14:18It's fine.
14:19Okay.
14:20Mary Kay, thank you.
14:20I'm an animal.
14:21I'm sorry.
14:21I'm an animal in the bed person.
14:23Oh.
14:23Well, I mean, I am too.
14:26But Sam, when he was there, I mean, Sam was 100 pounds.
14:28I ain't going to kill Sam.
14:29But I'm afraid that my five-pound dog, you know, it's, I saw the Sopranos.
14:36I know what Christopher did, and it just bothers me.
14:38That's all.
14:39Mary Kay, your cat looks, I don't see your cats, but these pictures of these Persian and Himalayan cats look
14:44beautiful.
14:44Congratulations on all your success.
14:46And we will talk to you again next week.
14:50Sounds good.
14:51Thanks, guys.
14:51The outstanding Mary Kay Cabot on the Wiseheart Right.
14:54We make it right.
14:55Call Kyle Right hotline.
14:57Never in the cards trade, Jerry Judy.
14:59Now, I'm not trying to be a stickler here.
15:01Was it because you couldn't unload him before, or was it?
15:04Well, it was the combination of everything.
15:06But if he was going to have bad attitude, the stuff we had thought, and maybe that was unfair.
15:10Maybe he never had a bad attitude.
15:11Maybe that's just his face.
15:13Maybe that's just his disposition.
15:15People say, I have a certain punchable face.
15:18Well, you look like a rat.
15:18He don't look like a rat.
15:19What does he look like?
15:21I don't know.
15:22Well, I'm just saying.
15:23He does look like he was in a bad mood a time or two.
15:26He didn't exactly look thrilled to be here.
15:29I remember that with Mike Pett in the one day.
15:31That was good.
15:32Thrilled to be here.
15:32You know, he's been hired to save the Cowboys defense.
15:36Tom Landry walking through that door.
15:38Coming up at 9 o'clock, Doug LaMaurie is going to join us on the show.
15:42Also coming up, do we have a free pass for Ryan Day?
15:45Remember the lowered expectations bit?
15:48Ken Carman, Anthony Lyman, live on the fan.
